Hobey hat trick

Re: Hobey hat trick

Since Butler has ditched and abandoned UNH & College Hockey, should he be allowed to win?

So historically has anyone been awarded the Hobey after they signed with the pros?
Carle did.
I remember him coming back for the awards ceremony when he was already playing pro hockey.

Re: Hobey hat trick

Anyone care to do something similar for Nyquist or Geoffrion?
Nyquist is a deans list student, being from Sweden not sure how much he'd be involved in the community.

The difference in his english skills from last year to this year is unreal. He speaks with no real accent when he is not hurried or nervous.I doubt that has any bearing on Hobey:) but I'm impressed on how he has adapted to being in America.

Re: Hobey hat trick

Swedes tend to grasp English faster than most foreigners and with almost all the Swedes I've met they also speak English with little to no accent.

Re: Hobey hat trick

I do not think you can justify 48 points winning the hobey over 61. In Butler's case you can say, well, he had 10 more goals. Geoffrion not being the leading goal scorer or points leader will hurt him. Also, I feel Smith had to of taken alot of votes from him.

2000 Hobey winner. Mike Mottau, BC 6G, 37A 43pts 4th on his team in scoring.
Steve Reinprecht, UW 26G, 40A 66pts led the nation.
The Hobey voters have justified it previously.

Eastern bias.;)

Re: Hobey hat trick

I read an article in the freep (or maybe it was detnews) in which the Red Wings GM said he advised Nyquist to go back to college for at least his junior season. So we can count on that part of your prediction, at least.

Side note: is it possible for all Maine's NHL draftees to be drafted by Detroit? New England loyalty be d--ned, I love that organization.

I think every program want either the Wings or Devils to draft their players. In most cases you will get at least 3 years out of them even when they are so much more dynamic than some of the guys leaving. It is absolutely crazy, but even at the "Cap" it doesn't cost them anything to sign guys early

Re: Hobey hat trick

The announcement is scheduled for a little over an hour.

A mistake / leak from a Wisconsin based newspaper already has Blake Geffrion winning it; the article was posted earlier today, and then removed. Speculation is that a) there were two articles written, one with Geffrion winning, the other with him not, and this winning article was posted by accident, or b) it has been leaked that Geffrion won, and this article was already written and then posted prematurely accidentally.

Off to a local bar with ESPNU to watch the presentation. *crosses fingers*

I have also heard that Nyquist's grandfather has flown all the way from Sweden to be in attendance. Seems like a long way to go to just spend the weekend? So I am thinking (and hoping) maybe he wins it.

I want to be the first to congratulate Geoffrion for winning this prestigious award. Well done, lad. Good show. ;)
