Hobey hat trick

Re: Hobey hat trick

I understand that fans of Butler and Nyquist are dissappointed they didn't win, and rightly so, as those guys were very deserving. The Hobey is a subjective vote and Geoffrion got the most votes. That's all. Who knows? Maybe he got all the votes or maybe he just got one more than the other guys. Say whatever you want I suppose, but I do take some exception to any implications (if there are any) that Blake somehow wasn't a good candidate, or wasn't deserving as well.

Btw- Rink Pig = flippin hilarious

Fixed your post.

Re: Hobey hat trick

The guy won the award for three reasons. 1) he was a senior 2) his last name and finally 3) his team is still alive! Butler had a good 4 years and its too bad he has NO Hardward to show for it. Nyquist on the other hand will win the hobey during the next 2 years and most likely a National Championship too! Congrats to Wisconsin and Geoffrion this was your year.

1) Players have won Hobey whose teams never even made it to regionals, right?

2) What do you call the Regular Season Champions trophy? ;)

Congrats on your Swede: his mastery of English is a benchmark for you all. :D

Re: Hobey hat trick

The final vote took place after regionals. That one extra win shouldn't have made any difference. If anything, bringing team success into it should've worked in Butler's favor. Wisconsin would still be a very good team without Geoffrion. UNH would be very mediocre without Butler.

I agree.

And I think the person who suggested Maine's going to win the national championship in the next two years ought to be drug tested.

Re: Hobey hat trick

Blake wasn't even the best player in the WCHA this year... that was Chev... they should rename this award who ever plays on the team that goes the furthest and had ok stats.

So by your superior judge of talent and all other things considered, Elliott should have won it in 2006.

1) So was Butler.
2) That's CRAP. How good a player his dad, or his granddad, were, should have nothing to do with the vote.
3) The voting was concluded just after regionals, so the performance of Wisconsin in the was irrelevat. Perhaps more importantly, one could easily argue that the only reason UNH was still alive at all was because of Butler's exceptional play this year (for proof, see his goal that turned around the regional game v. Cornell).

Somebody else also mentioned that he won it because Wisconsin has never had a Hobey winner; who came up with that logic? If that's okay then let's award UNH an NCAA Championship.

If these are the only justifications folks can give for Geffrion winning the Hobey, than this award has lost a lot of credibility for me, and for many other people who follow college hockey, but don't post here -- and no, they're not all New Hampshire fans.

Re: Hobey hat trick

Congratulations to Geoffrion on winning the Hobey.

Any of these three young men were deserving and IMO you cannot complain about one or the other not winning the award. This was a tough year and all three represented their respective teams with class and great play on the ice.

I think Atkinson is going to have something to say about it. This weekend opened a lot of eyes and the two are probably looking at an equal footing going into the season.
