Hobart statesmen hockey 22-23

Trinity fresh off an OT win over Babson playing the Statesmen today. Gotta get up for any game with the Bantams. GOBART!

Yeah, that's a great win for the Bantams.

Hobart v Trinity always seems to be a tight game...wouldn't surprise me if they give Hobart all they can handle.

...and they did.

I think Hobart certainly deserved the win...but this was by no means a "dominating" win. Trinity is better than their record shows. Hobart had the advantage in overall play (and quality scoring chances)...and they absolutely dominated the OT. That said, Trinity could have come away with a win - they played their best hockey in the third period and had some very good looks at the net.

It's good for 'Bart to be tested...and they answered the bell today in the face of some serious adversity.

And, by the way, that overtime goal was nuts...pure skill by Alexander to take that pass out of the air. Wow.

Agree with your post. Trinity was tough all three periods, but best three for Hobart in OT dominated. 11-0 .

Just watched Alexander's goal in OT on replay.....incredible air pick , he needs to play on the newly revived Hobart baseball team when hockey season is over. This team has really come together in all ways, as evidenced by skills, will and togetherness, as reflected by many on the team taking a knee in a group post game......I hope they were praying for their health , because if they have it, this will continue to be a special season. One game at a time boys, respect every opponent and no predictions....GOBART!

Don't get to see a whole lot of D3 hockey in the Capital District area or know all that much about it, but, noticed that D3 need based aid and/or academic aid only Hobart have six guys at 200 lbs. or better. By contrast, D1 full athletic scholarship RPI only has the same six while Union, who only recently implemented full schollys, only has seven themselves.

If the six at Hobart bring some skill, speed and quickness along with the physicality, the results could very well be devastating at the D3 level.

May very well go check it out in person when they come to only 30 some miles from here in several weeks when visiting Skidmore. The local D1 teams are both away that weekend and, these days, that is the best place for them!!!

It is interesting that the Liberty League, a D3 Conference without hockey, has five D1 Hockey teams(Union, RPI, Clarkson, St.Lawrence and RIT) and now the #1 ranked team in D3, just an observation. Also, when will the USCHO site correct the Hobart v. Trinity score from a loss for Hobart to a 2-1 OT win and Hobart 's record to 11-0? Obviously a Trinity friendly entering the scores for the site :)

Statesmen beat the Mules 2-1 and go 12-0. Hobart dominate early but Mules kick hard in the third but fall short as Beaver misses his shutout.

Hobart beats Salve Regina in another close one 2-1 in OT. The streak is up to 13 to close out 2022 portion of season. The boys deserve one helluva celebration tonight!

Statesmen travel to New England for two road games with NEC on Friday and Norwich on Saturday. These two games should be a real barometer as to whether the boys deserve their #1 ranking. If they manage a win Friday it sets up a great matchup against Norwich where the Statesmen have trouble. I am sure the Cadet faithful will be out in big numbers to try take down the Statesmen . I'm assuming Beaver will start in goal against the Cadets and we'll see how this Freshman responds to the Vermont crowd and the Norwich attack. Bring on the popcorn, D3 hockey at its best.

Big weekend for all four teams in NH/VT as the "central/western" NY squads come out to syrup country.

One note, Norwich's students are not back from break yet so the crowd probably won't be quite as lively as it would normally be for Saturday's tilt. I still would expect one of the better crowds of the season, but don't see it getting over 1500. 1200-1300 is probably a better guess with it being Saturday afternoon etc.

Hobart Statesmen shutout the Pilgrims 3-0 to set up a showdown with the Cadets tomorrow afternoon who prevailed over the Soaring Eagles 2-1. Will the Cadets break the streak?A January preview of the NEHC Championship??

Congratulations to Norwich on ending the streak in a hard fought 2-1 loss for the Statesmen. This will motivate Hobart for the end of season contest at the Cooler in February.

Despite loss to Norwich Saturday, Hobart remains #1 with 14 first place votes, with the balance being split between Utica and Adrian. Norwich moved up from 10 to 6. With the streak over, there is no extra meaning to each game, just to win every game and win the NEHC regular season. Next steps will be discussed like the NEHC and NCAA tourney after securing the goal of Cooler ice for the NEHC playoffs . While we may have lost, I think some of those watching the Statesmen on Saturday could see this is a fast , hard working squad that will learn form the loss on Saturday and use it as motivation. Good luck to Coach Taylor and our players playing for USA in the University games. While we will miss you, the experience should be awesome, and the remaining boys can start a new streak for your return. GoBart, GOUSA!

Elmira for a weekend home /away without Coach Taylor and our 2 best players as they play in the semifinal against Japan tomorrow morning for USA in Lake Placid . Here's to the Statesmen stepping up for 2 wins and to the USA team to make it to the finals on Sunday..

Hobart drops their second Conference game to Elmira 7-5 after beating them on Friday 7-1. Congrats to the Soaring Eagles, It will be great to get Coach Taylor, Aquaro and Swift back to finish the season with hopefully a new winning streak taking the Statesmen to the final four . Good luck in the Gold medal game today in Lake Placid.

Aquaro was the leading scorer for silver medalist Team USA. Swift also had a nice hand in the shorthanded goal against Canada. Losing to Team Canada ,with 7 NHL draftees , is no disgrace. Coach Taylor really handled the opportunity very well. Now let's win the NEHC, and then the tournament!

Nice to take it to the Beacons last night 6-1. With Coach Taylor and the team back at full strength, we can hopefully get a streak going leading into the NEHC playoffs.

Statesmen secure 2 more impressive wins this weekend, now 21-2 overall. Friday's 4-0 shutout of Skidmore on the road was key . We have moved up to #2 in the PWR and will be nipping at Utica's heals as they finish their easy end of season schedule. The team looks stronger than ever with Aquaro, Swift and Coach Taylor back from the World University silver. Two more big league games at the Cooler this weekend. Win these and the dream is alive.GO BART!
