Hobart statesmen hockey 22-23

Hobart remains #2 in the poll with the most wins, so far, this season .They are #3 in the PWR as well. This means nothing unless we can finish the regular season with 2 wins this weekend and win the NEHC tournament. Last year we lost to Skidmore in the NEHC tournament, and had to travel to Adrian in the NCAA and take a loss to the ultimate Champion. Hopefully this year we can be motivated to keep Cooler ice as long as possible in any post season action. That starts with beating Norwich Friday. PS, it's lonely on this board lately. Any Bart fans out there?

Hobart leads Norwich 3-0 at the end of the first period. A dominating effort. Now don't let up, Norwich is too good. GOBART!

End of second, Hobart up 3-1 as Norwich comes out and evens play and gets within striking distance. Beaver drops puck and Norwich is there to knock in the only goal of the period. One period to go , Hobart needs to turn it back up

Hobart beats Norwich for the NEHC title 3-2 and gains their 22nd win! Best start of a game ever for a Hobart team proves too much for Norwich to overcome. The NEHC tournament comes through the Cooler in 2023! Great season for the Statesmen so far , but the heavy lifting is yet to come.

Congrats!!! Home ice advantage at The Coooooooler.....nice

Hobart fends off a tough Castleton team trailing 3-2 at the end of the 2nd. But the Statesmen finally broke the goalie's magic by scoring four plus an empty netter for a 7-3 final. Beaver comes in the Third period to stop the bleeding. Moving on to the next round. Cooler hockey continues!

Cooler hockey against Skidmore on Saturday......time to avenge last year's tournament loss. Assume Beaver will get the start in goal. GO Bart!

Hobart moves on to the NEHC title game as Beaver tends another shutout against Skidmore. Babson looks like they are on fire after soundly beating Norwich 4-0. But Hobart is 17-0 at the Cooler this year. Hopefully they will get more offense , as they will need it against defending Champs Babson. More Cooler hockey and a potential first round bye is at stake. Coach Taylor has 2 very talented Freshman goalies, but does he stay with Beaver against Babson?

That was a tight game. I said it earlier in the season, that is a very good Skidmore team. They played fast and physical last night...and gave Hobart all they could handle. Was biting my nails at the end - Hobart had 2-3 prime chances to seal it with an empty net but kept missing by inches.

IMO, it is now Beaver's net for the rest of this season...unless he loses it with poor performance. Goyer has had a remarkable season...but I think all the signs point to Beaver being this team's #1. Wouldn't be surprised if Beaver was in the running for an All American bid at the end of the season - his numbers have been that good.

BTW - Have you heard anything about Matt Iasenza? He dropped out of the line ups quire some time ago. I figured it was an injury....but he never came back? He may be the fastest skater on this team and seemed to be playing very well...so it seems unlikely that he's been a "healthy scratch"?

Yes, but the comical part of the game......LOL Can one Beaver stop a whole team of Beavers ?

Hobart going into last period up 3-1 over Babson in the NEHC final, after a questionable "no call" on goalie interference. Hopefully this fires up Hobart's Beaver and he protects the "Dam" the rest of the way.

Congrats to the Statesmen for getting a first round bye position in the NCAA tournament . One more game in the Cooler on 3/18 against either Curry or Bowdoin. The Statesmen have won their last 2 at the Cooler in NCAA tournament play, so hopefully they can make it 3 in a row for a spot in the Final Four. Beaver has been hot as our two First Year goalies have allowed a combined NCAA low GAA of 1.14. Our Offense led by Aquaro and Alexander lead the tough NEHC in offense and has an overall 4.0 average goals scored per game. This is a special team that is 18-0 in the Cooler this year, let's make it 19-0 for a spot in the Final Four.

The two week wait is over and the quest for Hobart Hockey's 2023 Natty starts tonight. Some Questions :.

--Will the Statesmen benefit from the extra rest or will Curry benefit from the momentum following the OT win over Plymouth State last week?
--Does it matter that the Statesmen are 10-0 against Curry or is Curry due?
-- Can Curry cross the Beaver Dam, as Damon leads D3 with a 1.0 GAA average ?
--Will Luke Aquaro add to his D3 leading 7 game winning goals?
--Despite Spring Break, will the Cooler still be a noisy, rowdy home ice advantage or will the Curry crowd travel well? Doors open at 6pm.

We'll find out all the answers tonight. I'm sure Coach Taylor will have them ready. GO BART!

Curry worries me....they played in a tough conference and put up some strong numbers this year. Seem like a team that can be a bit inconsistent...hoping Hobart can disrupt them and make them play the game we want. For sure, this is a team that can come into the Cooler and steal a game...

Rest vs rust is always tricky. I'm with you...I have faith Coach Taylor found ways to keep the practice intensity at game level the past few days...and the boys will come out flying.

If you recall, Babson got a bit chippy late and that conference final got pretty physical in the third. One of Hobart's big D went down with what looked like a knee injury (I think it was Mourar)...looked at the time like it may have been a serious injury. Hoping they have him back - I know this team is deep but he'd be missed for sure. (and if it wasn't Mourar it was Wuth...which would also be a tough loss). Fingers crossed...hate to go into crunch time missing key guys.

Great call out on Spring Break - I hadn't thought of that. Bummer on timing...hoping the Geneva faithful come out in force to make some noise.

GOOOOOO 'Bart!!!

I do recall this injury and hoping the extra week helped but I am not informed on status. Every single team in the tournament has a chance including Curry. I like Hobart's chances against Curry in a 3 games series, but one game is nail biting stuff. I hope the refs are not sympathetic to the visitors, the calls will be crucial tonight.Hoping Hobart comes out with the first period intensity they have shown in big games, but it has to result in goals. Total respect for Curry. It will be a dogfight.

If it’s Mourar, he’s in the lineup.
