Health Care Reform - 1/6 of the Economy Up for Grabs

Re: Health Care Reform - 1/6 of the Economy Up for Grabs

Les

Is the solution in MA to scrap Devalcare and go back to square 1?

Re: Health Care Reform - 1/6 of the Economy Up for Grabs

Wally is right- Romney rammed it thru so he could wave the flag during the election. I have no idea of the answer. It is really like 3rd world medicine. The system does not have the tools to cover the population. Not enough primary care, multiple insurances, each of which has a load of different plans making it almost impossible to navigate if you are an uneducated about the system. The system also relies on for profit insurance companies who have absolutely no motivation to make anything easier because the harder it is the less $ they pay out.

This is switchover season where we have tons of pts switching plans so we have to revamp all the meds because plan A makes you use med A and plan B won't cover it at all. Loads of prior auth forms to fill out, pts bull they can't get what they had before with pretty much no warning (sometimes leaving them untreated while things get processed) and stable patients who need to change regimens at the whim of insurance. I hate this month.

It's all but dead. Congratulations to the Republican party.

You should know that Gridlock is the only thing that can save us from ourselves, that and term limits

You don't see the comedic value?

We can't cover everybody. Only Western Democracy in the World that can't.

We're still going to go bankrupt.

It's quite an accomplishment.

The Senate Bill still leaves millions uninsured. Whats really interesting is how much cheaper it would be to just give those people insurance. I've heard estimates of approx $30B/yr. Over 10 years that makes is $300B versus well over $1T in the proposed bills.

But when your aim is control instead of care I guess its going to cost a bit more.

I don't care. The comedy of it all is priceless. The mere fact that insurance companies will continue to have all the power and continue to deny coverage to millions of Americans is priceless.

I refer you to the earlier post showing that medicare denies more claims than private insurance.

If insurance companies were allowed to fully price risk you wouldn't have to worry about people being denied coverage.

Re: Health Care Reform - 1/6 of the Economy Up for Grabs

We are better off with this bill failing...it was a piece of **** farce anyways. It was barely even a turn to face the right direction let alone a step in the right direction.

There are a million things wrong in this country and it is time for the Dems and our president to show them some time. Health care reform can wait, especially since this wasn't the health care reform they promised anyways.

We sure waste a lot of time. 2 major piece of legislation and an undeclared war happened under Bush. All 3 were epic failures. Now Obama is continuing that trendline.

Sad huh...

Sad huh...

It appears all anyone can do is try to live in the current context, do the best they can with what they've got, and not worry about the laws that are written cause they usually suck.

NCLB? Disaster
Medicaid Prescription Drug Benefit? Increased the speed of the Handtruck to Hell by about 100mph.
Bank and Wall Street Oversight? Non-existent.

Aren't you one of those afeared of the Socialist movement to cover everyone?

I am seriously looking at other career choices. If they don't do something soon I may need to be medicated. If I hear one more time how the bill would screw us (when we have something firmly shoved far up our rear orrifice already and a good majority seem to be able to ignore it and even sit on their hands) I might puke.

If I actually felt the GOP cared about this and wanted to solve it I would run in their direction but all they want to do is stymie everything. I have heard absolutely zero out of that camp except negative rhettoric. Absolutely no problem solving. The Dems are selling their souls. I need to move to somewhere that common sense is still a part of the national psyche. It obviously isn't here.

(extremely bad day at work, not that you can tell)

Re: Health Care Reform - 1/6 of the Economy Up for Grabs

Healthcare reform is dead. delete the thread. any chance of movement to fix anything just died. (if she won I might have had to wear a bag on my head. Instead I am going to go work at walmart because now the insurance companies are having the biggest party of their lives.)

I work for Uncle Sam and have a pretty good health plan (FEHBA). Lots of primary care choices, no referrals necessary, no probs with the ER, and with a drug and vision plan. If I switch plans (and there are a ton for federales), pre existing conditions are covered.

Cost - $300 every 2 weeks for the family plan (me, Mrs. and 1 son) of which Uncle Sam picks up 2/3. When I retire in a few months, I pick up the entire cost.

IF the idiots on the hill wanted to cover people properly, give everyone access to FEHBA.

If you do move, you need to go to a good hockey state.

sure, let individual companies climb aboard.... but many of the people that this 'reform' was going to cover lack the 2/3rd payer.

though maybe if enough companies drop blue cross and harvard/pilgram and permanante; FEHBA will get to negotiate better margins to pick up those po'folks...

I would give my left nut (well, if I had one) to make it so everyone had that option.

Don't talk to anyone who has a better scenario anywhere. Anyone in primary care (short of the concierge medicine) will sing the same tale of woe.
