Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Harvard recruits score well on Central Skating's final pre-draft rankings.

http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=62970

For ease:

Brian Hart, 54th NA Skater

Jim Vesey, 77th NA Skater

and not that he's a Harvard recruit but...
Dan O'Regan, 76th NA Skater

Did I miss anyone?

Whoops. Thanks Hoky.

Devin Tringale, 79th NA Skater (2013, per Heisenberg)

None taken but I think my optimism was tempered quite a bit more than it is today. Two years ago, there was no way we would have beaten Yale and Cornell back to back in the playoffs. So I'm not sure where you draw the conclusion that I was saying the same thing as I did two years ago.

I do recall saying that Teddy deserved more time two years ago. I also said last year that if this year didn't end well, he was probably done at Harvard. So I think that I've presented a balanced view to the program and I certainly have not held back my criticism when warranted.

As far as '89 is concerned, of course that final game could have gone either way. One thing you failed to point out is that Minnesota was essentially playing at home in front of a crowd that was 90% for the Gophers, 10% for Harvard. Tough environment yet the Crimson prevailed and I felt that they more than held their own.

You have the right to say what you want on this board and to criticize the Crimson up and down. But as a Harvard grad, why must you be incessant in hammering your alma mater's hockey program? Give them a break now and then. Right now, they deserve our support.

Good points, all around; however, I'd say it was 97% Minnie fans and 3 Hback in '89.

I love the program, but I think Donato is a very bad liability for the program. He was hired because Mazz was not a H guy, and like Francona the kids in the locker room became unruly - Mazz was not able to reign them in. Donato should go. 3 games do not make a season, and 4 dismal seasons is enough.

I give the kids my support, however, I will not give Donato any support - he deserves to be fired, as .500 seasons or barely over .500 are not what this team can accomplish with the talen coming in. Dismal coaching, great kids, medicore facility. Hoops will get all o fhte attention - hockey has fallen by the wayside years ago.

BC just won the title!

Lighten up and have a fresca!

Go Bruins!

Harvard finished the season ranked 18th in the USCHO.com national poll after finishing second in the ECAC Hockey Championship and third in the ECAC regular-season standings with an 8-5-9 league record. The Crimson was 13-10-11 overall, setting an NCAA record for ties in a season.

That record is not 500 and is not "Barely" over 500. Who recruited those "great kids"?

3rd place regular season, lost in championship game of ECAC tournament. Several All Americans, zero off ice issues.
Crushed Yale 8-2 and Cornell 6-1 in qtr and semis.

If that isnt good enough for you, tough. They should fire Yale coach and others long before him. Future looks great at Harvard

With Hart, Vesey, Trigale, Mcnally, Fidler and others, should have a great run over next 2/3 years.

Maybe they could win a few more games and have kids there like BU

On another note from someone who loves stats.

I started looking at other coaches to see where they were winning % wise.

York at BC 647%
Parker at BU 647%
Umile at UNH 647%

What are the chances that would happen over a 20 or 30 year period.

Creepy.

I know this guy has eagles in his name, but he never posts in BC threads. He's just a jilted Harvard fan.

Hoky, Allain should be fired before Donato? That's asinine. That being said, it's also asinine for this guy to complain about Donato after the year Harvard had. If they don't improve record wise next year, then he'll have a point.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

In a vacuum, that's fine. But given how bad Harvard was the last couple years...you need to pick your spots. This guy doesn't do that. He's incapable of giving Donato any credit at all. Now, full disclosure...I don't think Donato is a good coach. Given the improvement this year and playing Union very tough for the ECAC title, it's completely unrealistic to expect Donato to be fired. By all accounts they have a lot of talent coming back and are recruiting well. If they don't build on the season they just had next year...call for his head.

i like Harvard hockey talk, there isn't enough of it. I need to know more about them and I wish they could be the 12th HE team but i know its impossible

That was my point....

Harvard just signed a blue chippah for 2014. His coach is Pat Lafontaine and he's playing up a year, but is expected to QB the PP at Harvard. Some good video and sound bits here:

Completely tangential but what is with this recent trend of hockey socks that have a pattern in front and are just plain white in the back. And by trend, I mean RPI uses them and I saw this kid's team wearing them in the video.

That said, I appreciate any kid that tells Pat Lafontaine what the PP play should look like. Good find.

I believe the white part is made of a kevlar material to help prevent skate blade cuts to the back of the leg.

Something similar to this:

Wow, this kid is fast. He'll need to put some weight on before coming to Cambridge. Getting Lafontaine to coach you up is a real bonus. Looks like the real deal and a great signing.

Hart thrives at NHL Combine; Gillies going to WJC Goalie Camp
By Nathan Fournier Published: 5th June 2012

It wasn’t the interviews or the workout events that were tough for Cumberland native Brian Hart as he took part in the NHL Combine in Toronto last week, but rather it was the travel to and from Toronto that was the most difficult challenge for Hart.

“It was tougher getting to Toronto and leaving Toronto than it was being in Toronto,” said Hart with a chuckle. “The flights were canceled and I had to fly out in the morning both times.”

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Can I drag you guys away from hockey for a second? I'm coming down this Saturday with my 11 year-old nephew to catch the pro lacrosse over at Harvard Stadium in the evening. Do you have any recommendations on where to go for something to eat? I assume Harvard Square, but any specific choices? Obviously, it won't be a beer blast, but I'm not opposed to a wee dram for myself. And if I can park once for dinner and the game that would be a bonus. Thanks!
