Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Can I drag you guys away from hockey for a second? I'm coming down this Saturday with my 11 year-old nephew to catch the pro lacrosse over at Harvard Stadium in the evening. Do you have any recommendations on where to go for something to eat? I assume Harvard Square, but any specific choices? Obviously, it won't be a beer blast, but I'm not opposed to a wee dram for myself. And if I can park once for dinner and the game that would be a bonus. Thanks!

Not sure if I'm too late with this post. You can park at the B-school parking lot (I don't know what they charge for pro lacrosse but for Harvard events, it is five dollars) or anywhere you can find parking in and around the Stadium. As far as eateries, Stone Pizza is down the street from the Stadium at the intersection of Harvard Street and Western Avenue. Or you could head up to the Square and chow down at Charlie's, the healthy burger place whose name I can never remember next to Finale's on Dunster Street, or Bartley's Burger Cottage. 21 Bow Street is pretty good (next door to Bartley's). Lots of choices. And brews for you, soda or milk for your nephew.

Looks like Harvard lost Frederick Gauthier (Harvard's Top 2013 recruit) to Major Junior.

When's the last time Harvard had 3 players invited to the World Junior tryout camp?

Congrats to Vesey, Hart, and Blackwell!

Gilles and Hart earn invites to US Junior Evaluation Camp
By Nathan Fournier Published: 19th June 2012

Portland, ME — What a great start to the week for South Portland native Jon Gillies and Cumberland native Brian Hart.

Gilles and Hart, who are both expected to be selected the top three rounds of this weekend’s NHL Draft in Pittsburgh, received a call from USA Hockey that they will both be heading to Lake Placid, NY in August to take part in USA Hockey’s World Junior Evaluation Camp, which will give USA Hockey its first look at the 46 hopefuls under the age of 20 for the upcoming 2013 World Junior Tournament in Ufa, Russia in December.

Is Bracco coming in for the 2012-2013 season or the year after?

He will be a good fit in 3, maybe 4 years. Exceptional talent. today he is 14/15 and is about 130 lbs tops. Not even close on the physical side.

Hart drafted by Tampa Bay

It was only four years ago when Brian Hart was celebrating a Class B State Championship with Greely, scoring two goals, and now he is a draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning used the 53rd overall pick in the 2nd round to select the Cumberland native, who played for Phillips Exeter Academy last season where he had 31 goals and 34 assists for 65 points in 29 games.

“My grandparents actually live in Tampa,” he said. “When they heard that (I was drafted) they were really fired up, almost as fired up as me.”

As a Leaf fan, I just came in here really fast to ask about Max Everson? How did he look this season? I know the Leafs drafted him as a defensive prospect, but I'm just wondering. Do you guys see him as someone who could eventually crack an NHL roster?

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Saw that Marc Biega is going to take an extra year and play in the BCHL for Coquitlam. This makes me think he's going to give Harvard another shot. What's also interesting, is that Coquitlam also happens to be the team that Alex Kerfoot plays for. He would be a big-time get and is rumored to be down to BC, Harvard, and Yale. I'm not sure BC has any more room for him which could mean that it is down to Yale & Harvard for his services.

Would be great to bring both Marc & Alex in next year (Harvard's Class of 2013 is nowhere near the pedigree of 2012 at this point), but these two would certainly change that!

I'm guessing this quote will bother some of you, but I find his honesty refreshing.

Brian Hart: "My goal is to play in the NHL, and I'm going to stay at Harvard for (at least) a couple of years, but as soon as I'm ready I'm going to go, as long as I'm going to be playing in Tampa," Hart said. "Hopefully, in two or three years I'm going to be ready for the NHL." - http://www.pressherald.com/sports/nhl-hopefuls-happy-to-ice-earlier-plans_2012-06-27.html

Hadn't really looked but... You may be right about BC not having any more room for Kerfoot. They are losing probably 5 scholarships after this year and bring in a class of 8 (assuming Gaudreau is pushed back to 2014). And that 2013 class for BC is loaded with high-end players and I have to imagine almost everyone in that class commands some scholarship money at some point, if not right up front as a freshman. Of course, you could always have something open up later if Hayes or someone leaves early.

Of course, Kerfoot's dad is loaded so maybe scholarship money won't be too much of an issue.

This is the reality of bringing in Grade A recruits, and particularly those who come in with NHL bodies.

I just hate to see kids leave early and before they are ready - Jerry D'Amigo comes to mind. He left RPI and then played in the OHL (not even the AHL).

Harvard has seen plenty of folks leave early with Louis Leblanc being the latest, so I'm sure that this comes as no surprise.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

I love this teams prospects for this season. Kroshus and Grimshaw were pretty big contributors, but can and will be replaced by the natural process of other players stepping up on ice. Killorn, on the other hand, is irreplaceable. Multiple people will have to step up to fill the void left by him alone, and that probably still won't be enough. Really can't underscore his importance to last year team. This is all on ice of course, as I think the entire senior class will leave a substantially large leadership hole, one that could really be felt. I for one, though, trust the character of the players of that Teddy brings in, so am confident they will all come together and thrive. ECAC Champions or bust!

Not upset by the quote. If Hart "only leaves" when he's playing in Tampa, then he'll either be here for four years or will be such a good player that 2-3 years of him was enough. As for Kerfoot, I wouldn't mind seeing him come to Harvard doubly so...would be nice to follow a prospect of my NHL team on my NCAA team.

Another solid recruit for Harvard (Harvard's Class of 2014 is looking incredibly strong right now):

Penticton Lakers (KIJHL) 5’9”, 155 lb. LD Adam Plant has committed to Harvard for 2013 or 2014. Harvard trumped BU & UMD for his services. Adam will be playing for Westside in the BCHL next year.
