Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

As a Leaf fan, I just came in here really fast to ask about Max Everson? How did he look this season? I know the Leafs drafted him as a defensive prospect, but I'm just wondering. Do you guys see him as someone who could eventually crack an NHL roster?

Max has a ways to go but he has an NHL body and as he develops his defensive game, he'll most surely be ready by the time he graduates if not sooner. I can't say if he'll be a top four NHL D but the longer he stays in school and continues to develop, the better the odds of him playing in the NHL.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

I'm guessing this quote will bother some of you, but I find his honesty refreshing.

Brian Hart: "My goal is to play in the NHL, and I'm going to stay at Harvard for (at least) a couple of years, but as soon as I'm ready I'm going to go, as long as I'm going to be playing in Tampa," Hart said. "Hopefully, in two or three years I'm going to be ready for the NHL." - http://www.pressherald.com/sports/nhl-hopefuls-happy-to-ice-earlier-plans_2012-06-27.html

I'm not bothered by it as it is a fact of life if you want to recruit a blue chip player. They aren't going to stick around especially if they are entering as a 20 year-old freshman.

I just looked at the Harvard "Mount Rushmore" poll. I'm a BU guy, but I go back a long way. There is no way Joe Cavanaugh cannot be a part of that group.

Yup! He was a 3 time all American back when freshman couldn't play varsity!

Has everyone gone to the poll section of the forum to vote on Harvard's Mount Rushmore? I would encourage you to do so as it would be great to see who we collectively think best represents the four pillars of the program.

Eddie Ellis (Rising Senior at Andover) to Harvard for 2013 or 2014. He is drafted by Waterloo (USHL) so he could play a year there before matriculating.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Brandon Fortunato, a signficant Harvard recruit for 2014, was extended an invitation to join the U-17 national team and has accepted (per USHR). The national team's gain is the Junior Bruins (EJHL) loss.

Congrats to Brandon!

Sean Malone was selected to play for the U-18 national team next season after his strong showing at the U-17 Select Festival.

Harvard's Class of 2014 may be the best in the East....I just hope that they all make it to Cambridge!

I did and I'll tell you here who I voted for: Laney, Scotty, Joe Cavanaugh and Billy Cleary. I'm not old enough to have seen either Cavanaugh or Cleary play but from what tape I have seen, they were definite pillars of the program. Scotty and Lane need no justification for anyone who follows the program. I still say Lane's goal in the '89 championship game was one of the sweetest moves I have ever seen.

Per USHR:

Harvard's goalie of the future.

6’4”, 178 lb. Proctor Academy goaltender Merrick Madsen has committed to Harvard for the fall of ’14. He was the #5 ranked goalie at the recent Select 17 Festival.

Hello, fellow Crimsoneers. I'd like to personally welcome myself to the USCHO boards following seven years of being otherwise occupied. Got super-creative on the user name.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

It sure looks like Harvard is loading up for the next couple of years, of course these incoming players have to step up and prove their worth, but their are a couple can't misses in there. Im an RPI fan but it will be good to see Harvard back in the hunt it makes us all better. There are some posters here that need to take back some stuff they said about Teddy D the last couple of years JMO !

What could someone in North Carolina know about hockey? :)

Welcome aboard Case.

Well the Carolina Hurricanes are sure making a splash with the trade for Jordan Stahl and signing Alexander Semin. So they have to believe that there are at least a few puck heads who care. Right? :)
