Nice article you should all checl out about Harvard recruiting and Ted Donato on the Collehe Hockey Prospective site By the Beanpot Forum

I appreciate the effort and sentiment, but Harvard does not offer academic scholarships to anyone. (Nor does the rest of the Ivy League.) And as for "creative" ways to offer financial aid, it simply doesn't happen. Being a hockey player will help you get in; it will not help you get more money. What is true is that Harvard has an amazing financial aid system that works the same for athletes and non-athletes, something that I'm sure works to Teddy's advantage in recruiting. Also, unless something has changed, Devin Tringale is not playing for Harvard for another year. All that being said, the incoming offensive firepower is certainly among the many reasons for optimism for 2012-13. And having three forwards skating in Lake Placid is very indicative of the current offensive depth on the team, a trait that was a major key to the late-season run by last year's squad.

Thanks for the feedback- wasn't aware that none of the Ivy's offered academic scholarships. I am certain the financial aid packages are much more leniant for star athletes than fringe non athletes. Also, all the information I have has Tringale on campus this fall including a 2012 roster release. We will keep abreast of the official roster as things firm up in the coming weeks.

Also, Gauthier went Major Junior so he won't be donning Crimson.

1. Not correct. Financial aid at Harvard is determined 100 percent by need. The same rules and formulas apply to every student. Having spent time around Harvard, the idea of the university forking over thousands of dollars to draw a particular athlete is laughable. The star recruit from two years ago didn't even get admitted, for goodness' sake.

2. Harvard has not released the 2012-13 roster (unless, for some reason, it was released via email last week without being posted to GoCrimson). Anything you see online besides on GoCrimson.com or CollegeHockeyStats.net does not come from the university.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Hello Harvard Fans,

First off, I hope you are all having great summers and are getting ready for the hockey season to start back up.

I'm writing on this thread is that it currently looks like I won't have the necessary time to run my blog (www.ecachockeyblog.blogspot.com) this season. I've been trying to think of ideas of how to keep the blog running, while not putting as much time into it as usual, but still keep it relevant to the college hockey community. So, I came up with this idea of a blog network. If you're not 100% sure what a blog network is check out SB Nation. I feel this could be the only way for my blog to survive, but at the same time could benefit ECAC Hockey fans and the blogging community.

I'm hoping to find a blogger for each of the ECAC teams to create the network. Currently, bloggers from Quinnipiac and Union have committed to the network (and possibly Clarkson & Colgate soon). From what I can tell, there isn't an active Harvard Hockey blog, so I'm writing here to see if anyone has any interest in doing so. I can always help with getting the blog off the ground.

If you have any interest or questions, please email me at ecachockeyblog@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time, and good luck to the Crimson this season.

USHR is reporting that Coquitlam Express (BCHL) LC Alex Kerfoot has committed to Harvard for the fall of ’13.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Who got the As for next season or has that not yet been decided?

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Well the Carolina Hurricanes are sure making a splash with the trade for Jordan Stahl and signing Alexander Semin. So they have to believe that there are at least a few puck heads who care. Right? :)

Ha. Just good natured bantering among friends. Case has got the hockey smarts no doubt.

No academic or any other types of scholarship. Financial aid only...established by a certain formula regarding income. And FWIW, Heisenberg has Tringale still as a 2013 and he said so himself in the interview Casey posted...not that things can't change.

As a Devils/Harvard fan (and yes, in that order) this is the most exciting news of all. Plus it's good to be winning battles for recruits. Now we just need to win the battles on the ice, and that's looking better by the day. I'm already excited. Is it the end of October yet? Bring on Bentley!

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Doesn't Harvard use their $$ to give everyone with family income under $80,000 (guess, but you get the point) a financial aid package that makes it nearly free?

The number is $60k, soon to be $65k, but something like that, yes.

And that's the "actually free" and not "nearly free" number. I'm not sure if it's moving up as well, but when I first got in, under $120k or so was the "nearly free"/"significantly reduced" tuition.

I think Princeton and Yale are nearly the same, and Cornell can (does), if I remember correctly, match any financial aid offers given by other Ivies. Not sure about Dartmouth, Brown, or the non-varsity hockey playing Penn and Columbia.

Cornell does not (more's the pity). HYP are on a separate plane with their aid packages, both for athletes and the student population in general. We have been closing the gap in recent years, but it still exists, and given the difference in endowments (and giving rates) it likely always will.
