Got Snow?

Re: Got Snow?

When you've lived up here for as long as me, shrinkage doesn't kick in until at LEAST -30F.

Heh. Mrs. P26 knows better.

Sadly, I must report that due to my career choice, I'm used to warmer temps, and my eunuch threshold is about -15 or so. :o

But then again, after a stretch like this and it hits 30-40 degrees, I'm out in the morning in shorts and a jacket when I have a cig. :D

I quit smoking New Year's Day, about 5 am. Granted, I was only smoking when drinking, but a.) I have a couple 3-4 nights/week, and b.) even then I could pretty much throw away the lighter after sparking my first one, because the chain smoking was ON.

Surprisingly, I haven't felt the need to murder anyone.:)

-20 right now. I don't want to take the dog outside for his morning walk.

Don't kid yourself. The dog is walking you, not vice versa. ;)

Re: Got Snow?

hang in there Plante!! its so worth it. I didn't drink or go out to the bars for three months because I knew I would smoke.

we've landed in Savannah. highs in the 40's lows in the 20's for the next week!

Best of luck, my mom's been cig free for over 12 years now.

We're supposed to get 8-14 or so in northern NY out of this storm by Monday morning. Lucky me gets to drive to Syracuse tomorrow afternoon/evening to fly to Florida Mon at 0600. Hopefully they don't close I-81 on me.

Re: Got Snow?

Right now we've got about 8" with the heavy stuff set to come tonight.

Re: Got Snow?

We've got about a foot and a half now. It had stopped but it's snowing again and we're under a winter storm watch until 4. Some places have only a few inches but some places have more than 3 feet.

Re: Got Snow?

We're forecast to get 3-5" of the stuff tonight and tomorrow...yet again we're going to get rain mixing with the snow. Would it be too much to ask that we have just one storm where we just get snow?

Re: Got Snow?

Gloversville, NY getting hit again.

Went to go see a movie and when I was coming back I was driving through the slushy stuff...

It was snowing on the way there and then slush/freezing rain on the way back after...

Temperature increased? Or do i just not know my weather that well?

Re: Got Snow?

We have more than "a few inches." The snow was as tall as my dog, who refused to go out until I shoveled a path for her. It's supposed to snow all day...

Re: Got Snow?

We now have a Winter Storm Warning, are supposed to get close to a foot today before it stops AND the forecast calls for snow tomorrow and Wednesday! Oh, and we have 25mph gusts as well.

Re: Got Snow?

Flagstaff is completely shutdown in AZ. I17 has been closed since last night, I40 is shut down now as well.

Nearly an inch of rain in PHX...record rain fall..has been raining for 3 or 4 days...many major roads are shut down due to flooding

Under tornado warning til 10.

Re: Got Snow?

I'm not looking forward to the freezing rain/snow mix crap that is presumably on its way. Just snow, already. It is January for cripes sake.

A friend of ours is already ticked, again, that the weather is not cooperating with his ice carving down at the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Tempatures above 32 degress Farenheit alone is bad enough. Two years ago he had to knock the carving down because it was so warm. Last year wasn't a picnic, either, but it did get better. It sounds like if the ice structure can survive through Sunday, the rest of the week should cooperate.

The National Weather Service in Sterling, Va. has issued the following statement:

...RECORD SNOWFALL FORECAST IN THE BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON DC REGION...

...EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS DEVELOPING TONIGHT...

GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS 20 TO 30 MPH WITH VISIBILITIES FREQUENTLY FALLING BELOW ONE-QUARTER MILE DUE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL DEVELOP TONIGHT TO PRODUCE NEAR-BLIZZARD AND EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. TRAVEL IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED TONIGHT AND WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS.

LOOKING BACK AT THE BIGGEST STORM OF RECORD FOR WASHINGTON DC... THE JANUARY 1922 KNICKERBOCKER STORM ... 28.0 INCHES OF SNOW WAS PRODUCED FROM 3.02 INCHES OF LIQUID WATER. CURRENT FORECASTS FOR THIS EVENT HAVE TOTAL LIQUID FALLING FROM THIS STORM APPROACHING 3 INCHES ... WHICH ACCORDINGLY WOULD CREATE A SNOWFALL THAT WILL RIVAL THE KNICKERBOCKER STORM TOTAL. GENERALLY ACROSS THE REGION ... 20 TO 30 INCHES OF SNOW WILL FALL BY SATURDAY EVENING.
