Re: Got Snow?
You have more snow on the ground right now than Houghton.
That should never happen. EVER.
I'll keep the PK Ditty and burning kittens going for you.
I think I know who to blame for that:

There go your taxes!!!
BTW, I live in Montgomery County, MD. There is around 3' of snow on my street. No plows anywhere. Elections have consequences for the idiot government that provides millions in bennies, but can't clear the flippin streets!
Oh, come on now. We've gotten 3x the average snowfall here, which will blow a hole even in the most conservative plowing budget.
People here in the mid-Atlantic have a funny idea about snow plowing - they seem to think that plows make the snow just disappear. Actually, they move it around, and it all has to go someplace.
However, I do find it quite interesting that the District's been far better at plowing their streets than any of the MD or VA jurisdictions.
to be fair, I think those live in the district could probably get to work in a lot of cases. Though, yeah, its kind of a bummer to work when everybody else is out sledding. Me, I did my taxes today and I'm working on small chores.
I'm surprised he tried open schools... if the roads are crud then kids can't get there. I wonder how they pay the teachers... is it based on the number of days or something else. Its not like we're looking at going 2 weeks over like I've seen in Boston.
I'll say this point blank... in metro Boston this is a week off from school... period. I'm surprised they were going to open that fast. That being said, I don't know what usually happens with city/state gov't in Massachusetts.
Also, i haven't seen this, but I get the feeling that the Metro (subway) got incredibly behind this storm... that's life but i have to figure that's why we still haven't seen a partial re-opening of the outdoor stations.
Yeah, well, they Mayor kinda painted himself in a corner. I'd have no issue with DC being open today if the Metro were up and running, but since it's not, it was a bad move. They didn't even offer liberal leave.
As far as schools go, it was stupid to even think about it. Again, without a truly functioning Metro, you can't effectively get around. Lots of kids use it to get to school.
Yeah I just heard from my mom on that. I guess it was originally supposed to be a few more inches but now they've upped it to close to a foot. Same with her area, the main roads are good but the side roads and neighborhoods have only a thin lane plowed, if anything, and at some points the plowing abruptly stops.
As someone who grew up in the DC area, I feel gyped. Aside from the blizzards of 93 and 96, every year we would hear multiple times that we were going to get several inches and then ended up the next morning with a dusting and a 2 hour delay if we were lucky. Kids this year get spoiled with lots of snow and school closings.
Yeah, but there was an article in the paper today about how schools might extend into summer by a week to make up for all the missed days.
