Global War on Terror 9: Winter Is Here.

Orlando was still the single worst ****ing hellhole of an airport I have ever been to. I can't believe just how bad it was.

I've flown a lot.

Worst:

1. LaGuardia

< enormous gap >

2. Newark
3. LAX
4. DFW
5. Reagan National

Best:

1. Honolulu
2. Raleigh-Durham
3. Portland
4. Vegas
5. Denver

Biggest airports I have never been to:

Atlanta
Miami
Charlotte
MSP
Detroit

Atlanta’s airport is horrible if you’re catching a layover. It also sucks if you have to claim baggage there.

I love dinky little Albany airport because essentially you still fly like it was 1985. It takes about 5 minutes to get from the plane to your car. It takes only about 5 minutes longer from the outside to get in to your gate.

I love small airports. Ithaca was like that, too, but it was shockingly shoddy last time I was there in the 90s. It looks way better now at least online. Jesus f-ck that was 30 years ago. I really have the Old.

The tiny airport in Sonoma, CA is pretty nice.

No airport in the US holds a candle to Charles DeGaulle though. That airport is the 7th circle of hell.

I don't know man, I've been to CDG several times. And as bad as CDG is, Orlando was just as bad. Lynah is absolutely right about how stupid everything is about that airport.

I don't have any passes, but my last time flying back to the US I didn't have to pull out my passport after my departure. Once through immigration and right before security, they took a photo in Seoul and apparently they must have some type of security reciprocity (with in this case DTW) so that I didn't have to pull my passport again. I just went through security once my face was scanned again.

I haven’t flown out of any airport besides ANC and SEA in a while but in 2019 I’d agree that MCO sucked though I went through a handicap line with my wife so it wasn’t as bad.

Can’t comment on ANC since I use my SIDA badge to go through the employee line (basically the first class line).

SEA can be bad though it depends on when you’re flying out.

I did fly out of Fort McMurray Alberta after Arctic Winter Games earlier this year. Not as much security theater but a) it’s a smaller airport and b) they were trying to get a few hundred people through since all the contingent charters were leaving.

My last trip through DTW was a ****ing nightmare. Otherwise it's been perfectly cromulent

Orlando is trash dont get me wrong but when I flew to Paris there was like a mile of walking before we even got to customs. And dont get me started on the con men all over the place...

My SO loves Paris, but if you bring up CDG she will go red in the face and I would suggest running away.

I'm so glad you said this, because when Dr. Mrs. and I went through there we just assumed we had done something wrong to wind up aimlessly walking forever along concrete causeways. It also makes brutalism look cuddly -- it's the ugliest area around an airport. And, yeah, the people reminded me of 70s Vegas.

LGA is much better than it used to be. The dirty, dank and dark, "Welcome to NY circa 1980, Score Dope the Minute You Walk Off the Plane" terminals are finally gone, anyway.

MIA and MCO are the new contenders for "worst overall" for me. SEA was getting worse the last time I was there. It's reached the point where it can no longer properly support the number of pax it's asked to handle. It's also full of entitled tech bro a55holes who like to complain about every little thing.

ATL isn't as bad as people think; it's actually fairly well-designed for the volume it does. It's just...massive, and Concourses A-D are always packed.

DFW is the worst for weather delays/cxls.

I have always had an easy time flying out of Seatac...but I mainly fly Delta so maybe that is why.
Last time few times I’ve flown out of SeaTac it’s been on Alaska Airlines last flight of the day to Anchorage so nearly midnight. Like Fade said, it can be really bad during the day.

Kep, SeaTac is in Seatac, not Tacoma. Tacoma is further south. And I will not stand for this 253 slander sir.

Cue Renton joke.

That is good to know, I have no been through it in at least 25 years.

But are the really old hangars still there? The beautiful ones from the 1920s, I think out where the Water Taxi used to run? I would be heartbroken if they razed those -- they were as lovely in their own way as the ESB.

The main terminal in Dubai (I think since upgraded) was easily the ugliest I've ever encountered aesthetically. Narita wasn't much better. LAX had us also walking forever from one terminal to another unless we somehow missed a speed line of some sort.

DGF and I were almost stranded at DFW after a Frozen Four in Tampa...that whole trip was one calamity after another!

My SO hated ATL when she flew there 2 months ago. I have never been.

MSY is ok...efficient but rather sparse.

I must just get lucky at Seatac I have probably flown through there 4-5 times and its always a breeze. I did get yelled at once by a guy who likely was a fan of The Insurrection but that was just because the dick didn't know how to read. The airport workers are overly kind (especially TSA...probably the easiest to deal with) and pretty easy to get around.

Beyond just the evil walking at CDG they asked to verify our passports like 4 times when we were leaving. One gave us the stamp/sticker and then everyone who could tell we were American would ask to look again, almost openly mocking us. What was funny though was we were so annoyed we just wanted to get on the plane so we walked up to the Sky Priority line (we didn't have it at the time obviously) and told the guy what was going on so he just let us board so we could get out of the airport.

Capetown is an easy airport to leave from...arriving sucks especially if you are renting a car. (and its 10pm and you have been flying for 16 hours)
