GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

At least they did not mock you as they did the Huskies.

I hope we have some fun these next two days.

I'm not really seeing how stating the facts is 'mocking' us. We haven't won a GLI title since 1980, and haven't made the NCAAs since 1981. We are bottom 5 in offense and defense, and dead last in killing penalties; that's all true. The INCH crew are usually the ones who mock us, and I've rarely (if ever) had a problem with CHN's coverage.

Just sayin'. :)

25º and partly cloudy. Inside the building - on paper MSU looks like the best team - but can they do anything at The Joe lately? They would need Jesus in order to win the title.
Everything points to cakewalk for MSU over MTU. Two years ago Tech came in with an almost-.500 record and made Spartans look bad and nearly handed it to Michigan. That was when Tech had a decent goalie. However State doesn't have the veteran team it had then. I'm cautiously thinking MSU can win by a couple goals.
RPI actually has the best offensive output so far this season (per game) of all 4 teams. However, there're a couple U-M guys who probably feel jilted in recent weeks and are out to prove something.
So the two lower michigan teams will play the late game Wednesday. U-M's only put together two solid weekends all year, but the last one came in late November. As usual, Wolverines will prolong the JLA hex for MSU.

Genoe has actually looked pretty good at times. It's just that, unlike Teslak (and the ever inconsistent Rob Nolan, who was the goalie of record two years ago), he usually gets no support from the rest of the team. You can't ask a freshman goalie to carry a young/weak team on his shoulders, especially when said team can't support his efforts with some goals.

I suspect the youth of this team is really going to rear its ugly head in the confines of a large NHL building like the Joe. Two years ago, we had a senior class who decided that they wanted their last GLI to end on a higher note. Today we have 17 freshmen and sophomores, many of whom still have no clue how to consistently play a full 60-minute game.

MSU 5, MTU 1

I can't wait for RPI to win tonight, so I can watch them on TV tomorrow :D
Tomorrows win will be even sweeter! :p

Looks like the Spartans got a little lazy and fat over break. Kind of embarrassing for a team that's looking to shed their rep from last year and build on a good 1st half of the season.

C'mon boyz, prove me wrong and take the GLI!

This is probably as serious as Comley has ever been about winning the GLI. Not surprised. And I don't necessarily think it has everything to do with holiday meals.

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

Hard to say what each team will bring... it's like starting the season over, getting the rust shaken out.

RPI looks like it can score, but also appears to have special teams issues. Will it play wide open against a team that likes to skate... or try to muck it up physically and keep it close? Sounds like they can play it either way.

I see a tight contest with Michigan, as they are also trying to correct defensive lapses and too many trips to the penalty box. No injuries and a full lineup should help. Personally, I'd try to shut down Michigan's top line since they are not getting much secondary scoring. Watch out for Louie Caporusso, though, he likes playing in this tourney, and has 5G and 1A in four games, including two GWG's and MVP honors last season.

MSU and Tech always play a spirited game, but this is a different MSU team. I think they'll manhandle the younger Huskies as the game progresses. MSU has shown some signs of defensive vulnerability lately, so if Tech can pop an early one, they may gain confidence to keep it tight. I don't see the Huskies as being intimidated considering the league they play in, but if Sparty rolls out a big early lead, this could get ugly quick.

Intimidated? You're right, probably not quite as much as one would think.

Gutless? Other than Gwilliam and Genoe, it sure seems like it. The formula lately has been to get the lead with a goal or two, try to sit on it, then fall apart when the other team ties it up. Either that, or they let the other team score at will right from opening faceoff.

So it'll either be another heartbreaker, or an MSU blowout.

Genoe? Really? I'll personally stand up and applaud if he takes his blocker to Tropp, Grant or Rowe. ;)

If I remember, Gwilliam had a hand in beating MSU two years ago. Don't think he has the same supporting cast... but you never know. Chris Conner, where are you..?

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

It is really simple for Tech today.
Stay out of penalty trouble.

Olson, Gwilliam, Baker, Dobson, and Seigo must generate 4 goals.

The rest of the team has to keep MSU from generating chances and win the majority of the individual battles.

The alumni will be out in force so please give them a good show.

:D

In all seriousness though, it seems like he's often one of only a few players who just goes out there and tries to do his best every night, even if the team in front of him isn't helping much and he is fighting a losing battle.

Gwilliam didn't have to be the go-to guy two years ago. That was left to Shelast, Rouleau, and to some extent, Kerr. Now as a super-duper senior wearing the C, it seems like he has accepted his second redshirt as a last chance to make his mark. He at least tries his best in most games, even as Dobson, Kivisto, Soley, Baker, and MacLeod rack up unnecessary penalties. Newsflash guys - you can't contribute to the team effort when you're sitting in the penalty box.

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

Anyone have Tv or radio coverage for MSU game?

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

RPI line chart http://www.rpiathletics.com/document...art.pdf?id=636. Lee and Bergin are both playing as is Watts. Scratches are Jensen, Zarbo, Beauregard, D'Amigo, Smith, Rabbani. All three goalies are listed with Merriam first, if that is meaningful.

I'll stand corrected, but IIRC the last time he was listed first, he started.
