Frozen Four 2023: Three Blue Bloods and and Upstart

Considering Q just beat Ohio State and Michigan in back to back games I would say they are pretty confident they can win tomorrow--and they should be. Might not happen but they're not gonna be intimidated by another unbeatable Big Ten team.

As a Gopher fan, I’m nervous after seeing QU dismantle Michigan. Anyone that says they aren’t is lying or a fool. The Gophers are a better defensive team than Michigan is (the Gophers won the Big Ten by 19pts because Michigan often forgets to play defense), but QU looked very strong offensively as well as defensively. Game is a coin flip to me. Whichever team makes the least big mistakes wins.

Q fans, if they watched the game, are probably not super confident right now.
Hmmmm, why? While Minnesota has a lot of incredibly talented players, I'm not so sure that Quinnipiac is not the best TEAM in this touranment, from the net out. They are far and away the best defensive team in the country with a Richter candidate in net. Great structure, terrific at not giving time and space to their opponents. Older, strong team who will hit you all over the ice.
I think Justen Close will be absolutely key for you guys.
Nice win against BU, but let's admit that they were the 4th of the 4 teams in Tampa. QU is not BU. Underestimate them at your peril.

If you listened to the heap of praise Motzko had for QU today, it’s very clear the Gophers aren’t overlooking them. Incredible team you guys have.

Quinnipiac is a very good team.

Minnesota is a very good team.

I don't think it's a stretch to say these were the two best teams in college hockey this season. We'll find out who's better tomorrow night.

Is it possible QU gets blown out tomorrow night? Sure. I wouldn't put money on it, but it's possible. Is it possible Quinnipiac scores an early goal or two, then plays its defensive game for 60 minutes and wins? Absolutely. That's been the formula all year. We've been good playing from behind, but you better not give us a lead, because QU is outstanding when playing with a lead. This has the chance to be an all-time title game.

Should be a great game. Your team scares the crap out of me. If you weren’t playing the Gophers, I’d be cheering for you guys. Lots of respect for your coach, your program, and the passion of your fan base.

Since I fell asleep reading your long winded reply (you love hearing yourself talk)...what the hell kind of question is this? There are two teams left.

You one of those short attention span yutes, eh? Explains a lot.

Yeah, and one has played exactly 3 Top 25 ranked teams in their last 13 games. UMn's played 8 Top 20 ranked teams in just the last 9 games.

8 > 3.

UMn's scored 19 goals so far in the tourney, Q's scored just 14.

19 > 14.

UMn's got 2 of the 3 Final candidates for the Hobey Baker Award, did Q have any among the Final 10? UMn's got 3 First Team All-Americans on their team, how many does Q have? UMn's the highest scoring team in the nation, as well.

UMn's ranked #1 in every single poll, ranking, rating out there. Q was ranked behind Michigan in more than one ranking.

AGAIN, none of this means Minnesota will surely win tomorrow, they lost 9 games this season, and Q could easily end up the toughest opponent they have seen? They could get trounced? Q has won a lot of games by large margins, they are 4th in the nation in scoring, so they know how to score and very few teams score a lot of goals against them. Some believe that they have a good defense.

But they were and still are the favorite to win for a reason.

Far and away?

Sorry, but when you play teams ranked

#60(3 times),
#59(twice),
#54(4 times),
#51(twice),
#48(twice),
#45(once),
#44(twice),
#43(twice) &
#41(once),

It's not hard to look like you have a good defense.

That's NINETEEN games vs teams worse than UMn's 2nd weakest opponent.

Q is absolutely legit, but you're not giving Minnesota enough credit as a complete team. Close put up Top 5 numbers in the country playing in the B1G, the Gophers do very well on the PP and PK, have scoring deoth beyond their first line and are legitimately 6 deep at the blue line.

Q is a great team and well coached, and the Gophers will need a complete game to win. But don't overlook them as the definition of an all-around team.

Minnesota in easy win tonight. Quinnipiac is like Gonzaga bball, good but not good enough.

A question, who the heck are the blue bloods?

Gophers have lost in the championship game 4 times against ECAC teams. 1954 to RPI, 1971 to BU, 1989 to Harvard, and 2014 to Colgate. I am hoping they break that cycle this year. Not sure I can take another.

The ECAC did not exist yet in 1954 when RPI was a member of the Tri-State League.

I would probably define this as historical success (at least multiple titles) but also the threat to return to that prominence. So just as an example, LSSU not a blue blood. I would say:

Michigan
Denver
North Dakota
Wisconsin
Minnesota
BC
BU

That would be my current list. Of course it really doesn't mean anything. Longest FF drought from above teams is Wisconsin. Last one in 2010 but they just hired Mike Hastings. So ya that's my list.

I think an appropriate collection should be at least 15 appearances or 5 titles which would be this list as posted. However, if it had to be both then Wisconsin is out. They have had great success in winning the title but they have not appeared often.

Given a lower criteria level Michigan State may be the next in line so it appears the drop off is significant past the top 6 or 7.

How is that hypocritical? Fans are acting like no Gopher fans respect QU, which is absurd, while at the same time acting like Justen Close will need to play the perfect game to beat them.

Certainly isn’t all QU fans. Many I have seen posting here have been great. But some fans need to pick a lane. Hard to listen to someone who says people aren’t giving their team enough respect when in the next breath they act like our team doesn’t belong on the same rink as theirs.

Yes, some Gopher fans are being disrespectful of QU because of their schedule, completely acknowledge that. But they are a minority snd they aren’t also complaining about not being respected.

But thanks for the Twitter follow. Perhaps respond to me on Twitter instead?
