Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Just so I'm clear...What sections are the BU sections and what sections are the BC sections?

I'm looking on Stubhub and Craigslist and don't want to sit in the BC section anymore than they'd want me there.

I must admit I do love that Coldplay song their band always plays though...

???

um, captain... those seats on 3b up high (sections 30-32) are the best seats in the house.

i'll be anchored there in my BU gear... just gotta cross over the anger bridge and come over to the friendship shore! ;)

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

BU is 1B side, BC is 3B side. My family is in section 18, and that's the closest to the BU section without actually being in the BU section. So, the BU section starts at 17 and goes toward the outfield from there. Not sure how many sections it actually includes.

Thanks, good info as always.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Sigh... Alright, sunset FRIDAY is 4:29...

Anybody want to answer the question you knew I was asking?

Personally, no way. I don't think there is any chance I could convince my mother and brother to sit through two games in 10 degree weather. As it is, my mother has said she will probably be at the nearest bar by the second period. So we're showing up for the game we actually care about. If the weather were warmer, I would absolutely go to both, but as it stands, no.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Apparently we need to start an "I wish my team was playing at Fenway this Friday" thread so you, the Northeastern clowns, and any other wannabes can all hang out. Maybe Hokydad can join in and talk about how great Cannata was this weekend.

Back to the game, I agree on the note about choppy ice helping BU. BC woefully outskated us a few weeks ago.

How about a, "I wish I was going to Fenway on Friday" thread. I was rather enjoying the flames, with nothing to add, except that I hate BU, and BC, and NU, and . . .

Man, didn't Cannata look great this weekend?

Okay, back to my own thread. Sorry, Tuckerman's Pale Ale + Nyquil = goofy posts.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

I extend my sincere thanks to walrus and Thiessen's Better for providing the best pieces of literature I've read from NU students since one of my friends shared this link with me.

Will everybody that has tickets be going to the women's game as well?

It won't be enjoyable to sit outside for a game not featuring one of my teams directly before an outdoor game my team is in, if the women were the day before or after and the tickets came free with the men's tickets I would go, but I don't want to be frozen by the time the BU BC game starts. And my apartment is a 10 minute walk from Fenway so I'll probably watch the women's game on TV there and head over once the women's game ends, those of you that know me in real life are free to join me.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

if I was affiliated with BU, I would hope both traditions would end.
You wouldn't be the only one. I have a couple friends at BU who are annoyed as hell that they do the "BC Sucks!" portion of The Song and their goal chant when they aren't playing us. In the few non-BC/BU games I've gone to at Agganis, I've heard more and more "Go BU!" in place of "BC Sucks!"
frankly, I think the combo of drums, arm movements and 'sieve' are much, much cooler than adding BC sucks into that celebration anyway.
Agree.

To BU's credit, their band is awesome and completely controls the student section. The "Go!... B!.... U!... Let's go BU, WOO!" thing that the band starts with the cowbell gets on my last damn nerve every time I hear it because it, honestly, is a pretty decent, original (at least to my knowledge) chant, and BU does it.

BU's OH EM GEE SO EPIC AWESOMEZ student section would suck so hard without the band. They pretty much sit on their hands the rest of the game, save for a few "Let's Go Terriers!" chants. They're basically robots.

NU's student section is lightyears better than anyone else in the northeast. Without the band, BU's student section would be exactly like BC's, only bigger and, thus, with a greater quantity of lame.
Personally, no way. I don't think there is any chance I could convince my mother and brother to sit through two games in 10 degree weather.
I'm going to hijack the thread with a rant for a second.

It is a travesty that the tickets for the game were organized this way. Casual women's hockey fans (yes, they exist) and fans of the teams that are playing were unable to get tickets because of the demand for the men's game, even though nearly none of the men's fans will be at the women's game.
*** I was logged in to that crappy ticket website for HOURS the day tickets went on sale. Never got through, and I got a message saying it was sold out. I was ticked then. Now I'm royally PI****. Working-class UNH fan can't get tickets to the game, so all the **** corporate sponsors can bring their clients and show off how much money they have.

Signing off now, before I get myself suspended or whatever from uscho.com
It's ridiculous and unfair to the women's teams and their fans, for whom this game is just as exciting, if not more so because of the lack of exposure for the rapidly growing women's game.

Okay, I'm done. Thanks.

Isn't the lack of size why BC's usually gets called lame in the first place?

Or was it just the mustard spilled on their t-shirts, I can never remember which.

It wasn't arranged very well for women's hockey fans, no, but there are tickets (not super cheap of course) still on Stubhub. There should have been large school allotments rather than an online sale during the day where ticket brokers can sit there in the stupid "virtual waiting room" while everyone else is at work. I don't think that they should have sold tickets to each game separately though. More people will still show up to the women's game this way than if that was the case. The die-hard women's fans likely bought their tickets right away, and casual fans for any of these teams (men or women) were likely disappointed since they sold out very quickly.

No disrespect to the women's hockey players, bless their souls... but,
I think it's a travesty that they allowed the women's game to share the ice with this event. Clearly it wasn't needed to fill the place up when people scooped these tickets up. The real travesty is that UNH and NU folks bought tix to this event and people without knowledge of the pre-sale passwords that wanted to see REAL hockey (sorry vell, I know you're going to cry like the time I told you Colt Brennan was awful) may have been shutout.

Additionally, I don't see how anyone from NU or UNH could whine about not getting tickets. The respective schools (including UNH and NU) were all given access to pre-sales with not-so-well-protected passwords. Their fans had as much access as BC and BU fans (and more than the general public). Then after pre-sale blocks of tickets sold out, they still had a large block of tickets available for the general public sale a week later. If they couldn't get tix for this thing, they didn't try very hard or are stupid... or some combination of both. If someone without tix is playing the victim card from NU or UNH, don't buy it.

I hope the gals don't screw up the ice too bad for BC and BU.

Actually, despite the fact that I'm not going, I agree with you. And I wish it was a different day and the tickets were included. I am a female who plays hockey. I love women's hockey (/rant time - except for the fact that we aren't allowed to check other women. I mean seriously. It's BS and sexist).

In any other instance I would absolutely be there, and I may still go for the last period, if I can drag my family.

However, it's going to be freezing, and I don't think I would last through the late game if I went to the early one.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

I'm just impressed that all the NU fans that have posted on this thread realized how quickly they would be shot down for saying "BUT THE WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM IS PLAYING AT FENWAY!!!" So cheers for that..

..thanks for pointing that out. They've also been garnering the school recognition in every promo out there with regard to this event. Like i've said before..our men's team can learn a thing or two from the other Huskies on campus :) (looks like they've started the yr right.. let's see). Moreover, the women's gm should be a good one as well.. both UNH & NU are ranked in the top 10 and have a pretty good rivalry themselves.

So this Fri, Sat, Sun (yup, we got hockey all wknd)... go Huskies:)

And you guys.. knock yourselves out (seriously hoping no injuries... outdoor ice is not arena ice).

And Nick.. women's hockey is a sport.. its started slow, but here to stay.. relax. You'll have kids someday (perhaps a daughter.. :)).. you'll see, they try just as hard! Take a look at youth hockey today.. the women's gm is progressing nicely :) G'luck to you guys.

Really? Is it really giving NU (or any school) that much attention?

Let's face it, the casual fan doesn't care who's involved...it could be BU, BC, Maine or Ferris State...it's outdoor hockey and the teams involved don't matter. It'll be a nice little point in the record books...first outdoor women's game, but that's about it.

It's a showcase for college hockey. Less so for the schools involved.

OK then. I guess you're right and I'm wrong. Good luck finding those missing chromosomes (should have plenty of time in mid-March and April without having any outside hockey games to help your program reach a higher level).

You really think York going to tell a supposedly intelligent (since BC is such a beacon of academic excellence) recruit "hey, come to BC and you too could play outside at Fenway?" No. Fenway's not going to see an event like this for a long time. Recruits are going to be more swayed by things they'll actually be able to participate in....like the NCAAs or even the Beanpot. Anyone who comes to BC with the hope of playing at Fenway is going to be sorely disappointed...they'll have long graduated with their BA in Coloring by the time BC plays at Fenway again.

As for NU, winning will get our program recognition. Not playing some gimmick game for the casual fan...continuing to recruit and build on recent success, THAT is what's best for the program.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Now the forecast doesn't seem to call for a nor'easter. Of course, it's all dependent on the track. Let's see how much that changes by tomorrow. And then on Thursday.

You're absolutely right. I'm sure this game would be getting just as much attention if it was Bentley vs. AIC rather BU vs. BC. I'm sure the fact that this game adds a new chapter to the greatest rivalry in college hockey has nothing to do with how much publicity it's getting. And I'm sure all the national exposure this game received during the Winter Classic, and will receive from being broadcast on NHL Network, won't bring any attention to BU or BC.
