Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

First chance I had to get to the computer...

Wow... what an amazing event that was. I'd have to rank it up there as probablly the coolest sporting event that I have ever attended. I thought that it was going to be fun going into it... and it far exceeded my expectations.

Both commemorative jerseys looked unbelievably sharp... I'd go so far as to say that I'd like to own one of each of them (I can't believe I'd every say I want a BC sweater!!)... but that shows how sharp I thought both jerseys looked. Perhaps it has been discussed earlier... but did BC leave the names off of their jerseys in a "reference" to the Red Sox not having names on thier home jerseys?

The play definatley seemed to be slow... I'm sure the conditions slowed the pace down, although the impression of the speed was probablly exaggerated by the distance the seats were from the ice.

BU defiatley came out ready to play.... I wonder if the BU players were a little more focused on the game and less distracted by the event itself than the guys in gold, or the teams were equally focused and BU just played a little better. As the thrid period wore on though, I was fully expecting the game to go into OT.

I stayed warm, I was dressed in so many layers that I looked ridiculious, but I stayed warm.

I hope the NCAA continues to piggyback onto the Winter Classic... and I hope the event returns to Fenway in another decade or so.... (hey we can hope... eventually they will run out of natural winter classic sites!)

I put together some highlights of last night. (Admittedly biased towards BU but all of the goals are in there ;))

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

I'd say my seats in box 161, row CC were pretty good compared to a lot of the seats I could have ended up with. Only problem was we couldn't see the bottom of the goal where BC shot twice. Very cool seeing a full house when some people scoffed at that being a possibility...

As for the game itself...what can you say? The BC team we're used to seeing was there in the 3rd period, but that's not enough to win. The penalty at the end seemed like a joke, but it didn't help that they couldn't get Muse off the ice when the puck was in the other end. That killed all chances. Not sure what happened there.

Muse wasn't good enough and neither was the PP. Hopefully with the Denver trip and now this out of the way, they can get back to doing what they did first semester...

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

my feet got cold in the bean boots, but the rest of me stayed alright. i had a bean long sleeve, think flannel long sleeve button down, long wool coat, then BU road jersey over all of that. flannel lined jeans. then tuke, ear muffs, scarf. gloves (with hand warmers on the palms :p ).

Rookie. :p I had on an LL Bean wisking sock, then an LL Bean wool hiking sock, and foot warmer inserts all bundled up nicely in my LL Bean hiking boots. Toastie feet through out.

My bottom half was long johns, flannel lined khakis, and ski pants. My top was t-shirt, waffle shirt, mock turtle neck, Fleece, BU jersey, and then a down coat. I never zipped it. (It's BC yellow. Sorry.) Top if off with awesome LL Bean gloves (with fleece insert) and my old ski hat. Bring on the wind chill and snow!

Anyone else get a kick out of the black hoods a few of the Terrier's were wearing? I thought Mike Grier was back. :)

You can keep very warm with a lot fewer items of clothing... just gotta wear the right ones.

Bean Cresta hiking socks, Bean hiking boots (no foot warmers)
Long jons and Cabella's Gore-Tex Thinsulate bib
T-shirt, Bean chamois shirt, and Bean Warm-up Jacket
Thinsulate ski gloves (no warmers)
Fur trappers fur hat (most important item on your body... keep your head warm).

I had foot and hand warmers with me, but never needed them. :)

i remember mike's rookie season. i had a friend with me at a game and he said, "i really like that guy with the black shield on his mask"... i looked at him and said, "that's not a colored shield, mike's black".

Red, There's an occasional column written in the Denver Post about such a "doubleheader" taking place here in Denver. In theory, the NHL game could be played at Invesco Field [home of the Denver Broncos] with the college game involving two of the following three teams: Air Force, Colorado College and Denver.

Denver's year-round climate is terrific. The only "problem" is that winter weather might make playing such games problematic. Having lived in Denver for forty years I can say the weather certainly could be cold enough to play an outdoor game, but Denver gets more than its fair share of "winter" days when the temps are in the fifties. For instance yesterday, today and tomorrow the high temps are forecast to be in the low to mid-fifties with lots of sunshine, not ideal conditions for keeping an outdoor sheet of ice "hard and fast" for hockey games. However, in the long run, an NHL/college doubleheader in Denver is worth close examination by the NHL and the three Denver/Colorado Springs area teams.
