Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

HA. Sure you are. If NU was in this thing you'd be hopping around here like this was the greatest thing ever. I don't know you, but I'm quite comfortable saying that every NU fan would like to see their team involved in this for the men's game. Huge exposure for a program and a heck of an event in its own right.

You make solid points about that and I agree with them. It would be huge exposure for a team that is growing and is trying to steal some recruits away from bu and/or bc. But if the ice is and will still be as crappy as is being told, our team with their injuries and such will be better off not playing on that ice surface. We have had too many injuries this year and that is something we cannot deal with having more of them...

Then you're flat out wrong. This NU fan is happy they're not in it. There is very little appealing to me about outdoor hockey.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

OK then. I guess you're right and I'm wrong. Good luck finding those missing chromosomes (should have plenty of time in mid-March and April without having any outside hockey games to help your program reach a higher level).

"I know, it's silly that someone would want their program to be on the NHL network all across North America to help the program gain some exposure, help recruiting, and move up the ladder. Who in their right minds would want to have to sit through bad weather and deal with the stress of having to watch my own team?!?! Plus, I could sell the tickets and make money!! I'm sure lots of people will go there without tix in hand during a major snowstorm to buy tix off me. I make a lot of sense. Oh look, there are some straws, let me go grasp at them. DURRRRRRRR. DROOOOOOOOL"

This way, if the weather is really crappy, I won't feel like I have to sit through the game...and if it's nice enough, it'll just be a fun time at a hockey game in which I don't care who wins or loses.

Funny, it sounds like you are attending the game from what you wrote above. If there is very little appealing to you about this game, why wouldn't you just watch it on NESN from the comfort of your home?

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Oh boy, the NHL network...I'm sure all 27 people that have it will be tuned in (or about 3 more people than will be watching this weekend's ESPNU game...I wonder where that is)....

Outdoor hockey is like MLB games in Japan or NFL games in Europe...a nice idea, good for the game overall, and better when it's not your team involved.

if the weather's nice, I'll go. a friend of mine who's a BU fan wanted to go, so I grabbed an extra for myself. if the forecast continues (snow, 15 degrees), i'll be home watching on NESN.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Explain to me how these guys claimed this ice was as good as the best ice in the NHL before the game started and the puck was bouncing non-stop and they players looked like they were skating on sandpaper.

That just doesn't make sense to me.

Apparently it got too cold out. I know, it's ice, cold is good, right? But the snow didn't melt like it usually does when the arena temperature is higher, and the actual ice surface is thinner I believe. So they can pamper the ice to be pristine at gametime, but the maintenance takes a lot more effort once it gets going. I think resurfacing needs to take place halfway through the 3rd for it to be playable.

Also, even if the rink manager gets the ice all nice again for Friday, it will be in the condition it was in OT of the Winter Classic by the time the first game of the doubleheader is over. Skate softly girls...

if the forecast continues (snow, 15 degrees), i'll be home watching on NESN.

And more importantly, no matter what the weather is like, NU's hockey team will also be watching from home. Wouldn't want them to getting hurt in a game like this... or inconveniencing their fans by making them sit out in the cold.

Good point about NHL Network. Plus, it's not like this game will make any headlines or anything. I'm sure no one will notice.

I'm just impressed that all the NU fans that have posted on this thread realized how quickly they would be shot down for saying "BUT THE WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM IS PLAYING AT FENWAY!!!" So cheers for that.

Sunset for Friday seems to be 4:30... which I think is when the women's game starts. My question is: Will everybody that has tickets be going to the women's game as well?

I won't be, given that the game is Friday.

Actually NHL network is available to anyone that has digital cable with Comcast since it is a joint venture between Comcast and the NHL and since Comcast is the largest cable provider in the country that is alot of people. ESPNU is also on Comcast as part of the standard package as well I believe.

Who gets that NESN thing either?

Yeah! You tell 'em, champ!

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

Just so I'm clear...What sections are the BU sections and what sections are the BC sections?

I'm looking on Stubhub and Craigslist and don't want to sit in the BC section anymore than they'd want me there.

I must admit I do love that Coldplay song their band always plays though...

Several people at work have come up to me and talked about how excited they were... to watch a hockey game on a Friday night. No one in my area knows jack about college hockey, but they watched the Winter Classic and want to see more outdoor hockey. It will get its exposure.

BU is 1B side, BC is 3B side. My family is in section 18, and that's the closest to the BU section without actually being in the BU section. So, the BU section starts at 17 and goes toward the outfield from there. Not sure how many sections it actually includes.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

The NHL Network sure comes in handy during the WJC....I added it for that and the rest of the college season. Definitely worth it in my book.

Re: Frozen Fenway - BU / BC 1/8/10

I'm quite glad Northeastern's not playing. This way, if the weather is really crappy, I won't feel like I have to sit through the game...and if it's nice enough, it'll just be a fun time at a hockey game in which I don't care who wins or loses.

And if it's really bad and the game is postponed, I'll have a few tickets for sale....

Attention please, Scarlet.

This is textbook sour grapes.
