Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

Re: Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

Happy not caring enough to troll anymore on this issue? I'll believe it when I see it... if not for the fighting Sioux you would have 5 total posts.

You guys are mid-major, at most. After the BTHC, we won't even bother to play teams like yours, we are moving on to better things, and you might as well join some Canadian hockey conference.

Re: Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

Under the terms of the settlelment with the NCAA, UND can't use any nickname, imagery or mascot associated with American Indians if it doesn't get both Standing Rock and Spirit Lake to approve "Fighting Sioux." So, no, becoming the "Spirit Lake Fighting Sioux" doesn't get the university off the hook with the NCAA.

So then we couldn't be the Spirit Lakers, Spirit or Spirit Lake Sioux and keep the logo?

That was a terrible settlement.

If "better things" means playing teams that nobody within your hockey fanbase cares about, then enjoy.

The settlement requires UND to obtain written approval from both Spirit Lake and Standing Rock to continue using the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. Absent that approval, "UND will announce that its Athletic Department will transition to a new nickname and logo which do not violate the policy or render UND subject to the policy..."

Any new nickname containing the logo or the word "Sioux" would subject UND to the NCAA's policy against American Indian nicknames, mascots or imagery. The settlement also says, "If UND does not adopt a new nickname or logo, or if the transition to a new nickname and logo is not completed prior to August 15, 2011, then UND will be returned to the list of institutions subject to the Policy."

That was a terrible settlement.
Probably. But the State of North Dakota agreed to it, so...

Re: Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

Why bother? The discussion over the sue name is no longer rational, it has gone into the land of the bizarre PC political, where no decision makes any sense. Everything said here is a rehash of what was said 2 years ago. I just don't care enough to get involved anymore. I have my reasons for not liking the sue name, but everyone here has already made up their mind.

That's fine I just wanted some original ideas or insults for the new moniker/logo, dance puppet dance.

If UND is mid-major then UMTC is definitely MSHSL (Minnesota State High School League).

Dont kid yourself, any high school superintendent would've fired maturi and hired some one to fire lou chia by now. This type of athletic department mismanagement could only thrive at the university level.

Yes, in keeping with the cherished goofer tradition of finding an excuse to avoid an opponant that would kick their arse. See: Denver, University of. That big phony coach of yours declared: "we won't play them because they use foreigners." The complete statement is "we won't play them because they use foreigners who would drill us like a Philippino transvestite."

Does someone around you think/say you're funny or witty? Because they are lying, or have amentia. "The Great White Snarks?"...........Dodgson wrote one decent story and the Hunting of the Snark wasn't the one. Where is Happy?

Just trying to move the thread away from snarky scatology. Not a popular effort, judging by the excretory stream of posts following the first notes of dreck.

you forgot about the paid professionals on your team. If you guys were so good, how come they never played in the Olympics? Oh, because they were all paid professionals and not amateurs in any way. That, and being older than the coach, too.

Re: Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

Happy had to create a second account just to get positive feedback.....

Actually, being against UND is a great way to get positive feedback. Almost everyone hates UND, because your fans are so classless, so I tend to get a few red from UND fans, and lots of green from every other fan base. Everyone else thinks it's pretty funny to see you choke 6 FF in a row.

Maybe. Just gutless rationalizations, IMHO. But DU beat the '60 Gold Medal winning team, does that count? It still pleasures me that DU scored 15 goals against the Golden Garden Pests in a playoff series in the old barn. Yeah, you were standing on principle all right. The principle being: "avoid arse kickings whenever possible." Because if the goofers didn't think DU would obliterate them, they would have played the Pioneers. No?

So, let's say UND changes their name to the Spirit Lakers, and gets a NEW Indian logo. Maybe a pic of the Indian facing forward, instead of sideways. It's not the Sioux logo that is under fire, the Spirit Lake tribe supported UND, and it appears to fall within the guidelines of the NCAA agreement (I haven't read the whole agreement, I've only read some of the highlights that have been posted).

Being against UND is probably easier than being for the goofs.

Just like everyone hates the Yankees? If you counted all of the non-Sioux fans who attended the F5 the total wouldn't even be half of the Sioux fans that attended, and the same could almost be said for the FF. It would take UMTC 2 home series to equal the number of Sioux fans that attended the F5 championship game.

No one likes you Happy, except that dumpster fire living upstairs who makes your miracle whip and dorito sandwiches.

Re: Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

And cross cheque, I have "minions" not "followers." According to Dude Love, anyways. :D

If UND can't have an Indian nickname, how about the UND 7th Cavalry?

Again, I stand corrected. I would seriously consider "Fighting Sue" just to give the NCAA the stink eye.

Re: Fighting Sioux to fight on...For one more year at least.

How about the UND Dikes? It works on multiple levels.
