How about the UND Dikes? It works on multiple levels.
Sue fans - good news bad news....the good news is the snow is finally behind us and even in Canada South (ND) the days of the temp dropping below freezing are behind us. Kristoes can pass out anywhere he wants until October and he should be just fine. Bad news is the grass is starting to grow and lawn mowers will be making there way out of storage.
I can't wait to see how the next hick from your team finds yet a new way to make the news from a drunkin incident...and I can't wait to see how Hakstool sweeps it under the rug yet again....it's like following the Kennedy's.

The NCAA policy is against the use of American Indian nicknames, mascots and imagery. Under the settlement, UND could not adopt ANY nickname or logo associated with a tribe. There is no way UND could adopt any new American Indian nickname or logo and NOT be subjected to the NCAA sanctions. So, let's say UND changes their name to the Spirit Lakers, and gets a NEW Indian logo. Maybe a pic of the Indian facing forward, instead of sideways. It's not the Sioux logo that is under fire, the Spirit Lake tribe supported UND, and it appears to fall within the guidelines of the NCAA agreement (I haven't read the whole agreement, I've only read some of the highlights that have been posted).

UND Sugarbeaters. it works on all levels, too. No one would get mad when fans chant "the only good sugar beet is a dead sugar beet."
The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Tribal Council has adopted a resolution opposing the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname and Indian head logo. The resolution says UND should retire the nickname and logo immediately. Tribal members say the imagery subjects all Indians to racism, not just Sioux Indians.
Frank Black Cloud, a Spirit Lake Sioux member and nickname supporter, says the Chippewa tribe should stay out of the dispute. He says the UND nickname issue is "none of their business."

As I read the settlement agreement, it seems clear that one thing the NCAA lawyers didn't want to happen was for UND to find another way to adopt a different American Indian-related nickname or logo. They tried to close every possible loophole to prevent that from happening.Thanks. Didn't know it said "ANY" Indian name. Thought it was just for the Sioux name specifically.

However, unlike you I think it is a waste to even make them change it. I have nothing against the Sioux people, but the idea that society wastes their time with this issue is just sad. The use of Sioux Moniker is no different than the use of Vikings or Fighting Irish. nothing about the name is disrespectful at all and even if that isn't the name they call themselves in their own language, they do go by it. I get why people and groups want the redskins moniker gone. That is like calling someone a n*gger, you just don't do that. However, life doesn't fit in one tiny box and the fact that people can't see the difference is quite sad in my opinion.
