One of the supposed proposed names was the "Rough Riders," as in Teddy Roosevelt.

I find this hilarious because of this quote by Teddy:

I don't go so far as to think that the only good Indians are dead Indians, but I believe nine out of ten are, and I shouldn't inquire too closely into the case of the tenth. The most vicious cowboy has more moral principle than the average Indian.

There have been many that have been proposed. Jets, Roughriders, Spirit, Spirit Lakers, Spirit Lake Sioux, Norse, Force of the North, Nakotas, North Stars, Scouts, and Prairie Panthers are just a few that have been discussed.

And honestly, if Sioux can't be retained, I would support Spirit Lakers, only on principle.

From what I understand, you would be able to keep the logo. That's part of the reason I support it.

True. We could be the Spirit Lake Fighting Sioux of course, and keep everything. Perhaps size 1, white font above Sioux on the front of our jerseys? :p:D:D

I would hope goofer fans would be consulted in the naming of our new moniker/mascot, lot's of good input from the likes of Brenthoven and his followers.

I like Spirit, but just because it sounds like a WNBA team. :)

I don't know. None of those sound quite right. I guess Norse would be an interesting choice. I like Spirit Lakers too.

Under the terms of the settlelment with the NCAA, UND can't use any nickname, imagery or mascot associated with American Indians if it doesn't get both Standing Rock and Spirit Lake to approve "Fighting Sioux." So, no, becoming the "Spirit Lake Fighting Sioux" doesn't get the university off the hook with the NCAA.

Who, ironically, was the driving force behind the creation of the NCAA, which also has a major award named after Theodore Roosevelt.

Does someone around you think/say you're funny or witty? Because they are lying, or have amentia. "The Great White Snarks?"...........Dodgson wrote one decent story and the Hunting of the Snark wasn't the one. Where is Happy?

Why bother? The discussion over the sue name is no longer rational, it has gone into the land of the bizarre PC political, where no decision makes any sense. Everything said here is a rehash of what was said 2 years ago. I just don't care enough to get involved anymore. I have my reasons for not liking the sue name, but everyone here has already made up their mind.

Happy not caring enough to troll anymore on this issue? I'll believe it when I see it... if not for the fighting Sioux you would have 5 total posts.
