Re: Fanboys and Superfrauds, 251st and 252nd Edition (12/3, 12/4)
Outsider, but...
While we're on the subject of fans, one of the things that really bothers me about the BU student section is that they start screaming at the most random times in a game. I can understand cheering on a breakaway, on a good defensive play, on a nice save, etc. but sometimes the cheering from their student section just seems to be random.
Yea, I just hate when my team's fans
cheer too much.

For example, I remember one play in either the 2nd or 3rd on Friday when the BU fans started screaming like they scored a goal as a puck was headed down ice for an icing call...against BU! (and it wasn't like it was a good icing that ended a BC onslaught either)
I'm going to venture a guess that your description of the cheer enthusiasm is exagerated, or, something else happened in the crowd to prompt a cheer. I know in my student days at Maine, a good goalie razzing 1 liner could get a nice, sudden roar or laugh from the students --- even though other parts of the arena may not have heard it or known why.
Going to a school where hockey is by far the #1 sport on campus, shouldn't the students at least know a little bit about hockey, like, I don't know, when to cheer? ... I will give them credit though, the student section was 95% full even at the end of the game. I went to UMass last year and half the student section was gone after we took a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. I'm not even sure the BC student section would still be that full after giving up 8 or 9 goals at home to BU...
Sticking it out regardless of the score (for better or worse) is usually a sign of some pretty devoted fans. The casual fans are the ones who leave.
Who micro-critiques others so badly that they decide when others should show support for their team, anyway?
I went to Agganis last year and Maine got **** stomped, but I still had a GREAT time. The paid fans were proud, but respectful of visiting. The student section was with-it and entertaining. The band was great.
BU fans don't wear peacoats and scarves to hockey games.... and you're calling them out of touch.
I also agree that the BC student section chants "BU Sucks/Sucks to BU" way too much during games against BU.
Yea, they should really save some of those for Vermont...
I blame the freshmen and the people who only show up to games against BU.
Because they're the ones who usually start chants and cheers.
Also didn't like the "Safety School" chant in the 1st period...that's something you bust out at the end of a lopsided game.
What do personal academics have to do with your hockey team winning or losing?
Overall though, I was very happy with the student turnout and the enthusiasm out of the student section on Saturday
You sound it!
