So in this case at least, you prefer overt pandering to covert pandering.

Any form of amnesty is a disgrace to any immigrant who went through this country's incredibly difficult process of becoming an American citizen. What it says is that becoming a citizen is a waste of time and coming in illegally grants you just as many, if not more privileges. There is only ONE thing that should be done when an illegal immigrant is found: deportation. Send them back, no questions asked, and they are to come in the correct way.

How much of a disgrace is it to those who went through the process to come here legally, to see all the citizens who had to do nothing but simply be born in the country?

adopted vs. born into vs. identity stealers.

We have no trouble with #1 and #2, but #3 should not get a free pass -- in fact they get prosecuted. But when folks try to steal citizenship, no problem???

We couldn't begin to afford tracking down, processing, jailing and ultimately deporting 12 million people. Never gonna happen.

Then maybe we should start by pardoning and releasing the vigilantes and volunteer citizens that actually upheld this. As John F. Kennedy said in his inauguration speech: "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

I've got no use for vigilantes. The idea of an army of clowns, roaming the country, conducting extra-legal immigration actions should scare even the most dedicated anti-illegal immigration types. And Jack Kennedy was not referring to them in his speech anyway, as you well know. If every law enforcement officer in the country focused on identifying and rounding up illegals to the exclusion of everything else, we would still be unable to track 'em all down and deport 'em all. That's just the reality of the situation.

And then there is what is actually being talked about, young people who were brought here in one way or another and aren't criminals in any other way.

Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be able to avoid deportation if they can prove they were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED diploma or certificate, or served in the military. They also can apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limits on how many times it can be renewed.

So where did you get identity theft?

Obviously we won't get them all, but if we have citizens volunteering to do it instead of overpaying the pensions of a bunch of doughnut eaters, something might actually get done.

Letters of marque for everyone!

You can't be serious. "Volunteers?" Mercy. And what happens when these undertrained, overly enthusiastic "volunteers" start shooting at Messicans and missing? I'm not anxious to have my mother hit in the face by one of these clowns.

Nice.

I have to agree with Foxton here. What a terrible idea. Citizen vigilantes rounding up the illegals? Not in this country. Not now. Not ever.

Where I come from, every citizen is responsible for the security of this country, not just a few elected/appointed bureaucrats.

Tell your mother not to go near the border.

Yeah, picking tomatoes is really a threat to our national security. Confusing day laborers with the British circa 1776 is a terribly dangerous premise.

Letters of Marque and Reprisal may only be granted by the Congress (Article 1, Section 8). Section 10 prohibits such activity by the States.

But if you want to stop the drug trade, it may not be a bad idea.....

Do the sins of the father get visited upon the son? In this case, I would think yes, especially with the high unemployment.

We are a nation of laws. Which laws do we ignore (though El Presidente seems to make that a mantra) and which to we enforce? If it's an unenforceable law, strike it from the books. But until it is struck, it is the law and must be obeyed.

So where did you get identity theft?
they're not citizens, not legal aliens, nor naturalized citizens, so they're not here legally, yet they want the bennies accruing to the "legal" citizens. Therefore they are stealing citizenship, or our national identity.
