Gang

We may disagree with each other, but let's keep it on the high road.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

Back to political news, there's... the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.

My thought while watching them was how laughable it is that something so benign that it's in the equivalent of a Disney / Up With People show is regarded as controversial here. It's probably how the Saudis feel when they see this and think, "I dunno... wouldn't be prudent at this time."

What a surprise: Kepler is relying on Wonkette for today's talking points. Knock me over with a feather. Anyhow, as long as that deranged site is in operation, he'll always have someplace to go for his inspiration. Neither it nor he can ever pass up an opportunity to knock America. So stupid remarks from a far right Brit MP become a BFD. And another excuse to parade lefty "truisms."

As for America, it's a big country, with a First Amendment and there are lots of jerks out there. You know, the Congressional Black Caucus, Nancy P. Losi and a president who thinks the private sector is "doing fine." Understandable, since we're all "clinging to our guns and religion" in all "57 states."

As for me, I like all Olympic opening ceremonies. They've become a little too show biz for my taste, but that's about my only complaint. Too bad NBC cut the segment commemorating those murdered by Islamist savages. Probably because of time concerns (in a 3 1/2 hour program?) and not an effort to keep us from "drawing the wrong conclusions" about the enemy we face.

I even like and occasionally watch the ceremonies from Berlin. And all these years later seeing Fritz Schilgen bringing the final torch into the stadium and lighting the cauldron hasn't lost its power to move me. Pity this most powerful sporting symbol of all was created by Nazi image makers.

Last night was a fine, original, whimsical show. I mostly enjoyed it. Is the Queen a class act, or what? And those complaining, from whatever perspective, need to lighten up. And that goes for PC enforcers, like Kepler. Read the Wonkette piece, strikes me as having been written by a retard.

Note: evidently Wonkette is unaware that one of Benny Hill's funniest continuing bits was his comparison of private health care versus the NHS. Benny would be relaxing in a private bed, while buxom "nurses" fed him grapes one at a time. While his little bald foil would be lying in an NHS bed, with the nurse inflating the bp cuff around his neck! Only in Wonkette Village and Keplerville is any criticism of the British system (implied or expressed) considered subversive and dangerous.

Nice try.

We may be rewriting history here. Slapper suggests "It's the economy, stupid" WASN'T the dark beating heart of Clinton's '92 campaign. If that's true, James Carville's gonna have to give a lot of folks refunds for those speeches and seminars he's conducted over the years, patting himself on the back for coining the phrase. But since "It's the economy, stupid" in fact WAS the dark beating heart of Clinton's campaign, it isn't exactly a huge leap of logic to suggest the draft dodger wasn't rooting for a recovery.

Everyone "knows" wicked Republicans "root" for the economy to underperform. While saintly Democrats would never do such a thing. Never.

You forget about rule #1 on USCHO, if the Dems do it its perfectly fine, no one will question it. Just like the mainstream media.

Not true at all. That's just the typical GOP persecution complex narrative. Same as the myth of media bias.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

"Nice try" as in your retort was not applicable, not that it didn't happen. Settle down, Sparky.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

I understand there's going to be a seminar about the myth of media bias, chaired by Brian Ross.
C'mon everyone knows the tea party is behind every murder in the US. I wonder if he looked up the members of Occupy in Aurora, I'm sure he did

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

Whatever one thinks of the actual proposal, this is striking:

13 The exclusions, deductions, credits, and
14 special rules that make up such tax expenditures
15 amount to over $1 trillion per year, nearly matching
16 the total amount of annual revenue that is generated
17 from the income tax itself.
