Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

What if they reformed the US healthcare systems and forgot to include the doctors?

First we were told "it's not a tax" but then SCOTUS said, "the only way this law survives is by calling it a tax, because the mandate is out."

Then we were told "if you are happy with your doctor, you can keep him / her" but what happens when the doctors say "this law is too onerous, we're not accepting any new patients and we're not replacing patients that leave." ? Then what?

Uh... Maybe I should have been more explicit than the whited out "Gotcha ;)" I included at the bottom of my post you deleted. But my original post was a joke.

Il Duce DID make the trains run on time. :D
I read that somebody actually did a research paper analyzing train delays during Mussolini's rule, and it concluded he didn't even make the trains run on time.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

I would have said it was higher 4 months ago (without Romney having secured the nomination yet). But its going to go from maybe above 30% to below it quickly.

What Romney needs is time. Time for Europe to blow up and Americans to get scared. Unless there is a major problem somewhere in the economy and Europe is the most likely reason, Obama does win...and with just a few months left, time is about up on that.

The only thing that can save Mittens now is a double dip recession ala Great Britain. Even slow growth does him no good because at the end of the day people just don't like the guy. Worse, a lot of those people are conservatives. You can't be a viable GOP candidate and have the WSJ and people like Jack Welch blasting the p ! ss out of you publicly two days in a row a few months before the election.

But at the end of the day, he's the WSJ candidate. As it gets closer to the election their Op Ed and Eds will be filled with Very Serious People sagely intoning that although Romney isn't perfect we must remove Obama because of (Focus Group-Tested Emotional Statement) and to prevent (BS Prevarication Masking Agenda of Keeping Top Marginal Rate Low No Matter the Consequences).

Good this His Transparentness won't rely on any of those Rovian tricks.

The irony for the GOP is that the reason we have avoided the UK's double dip so far is that we didn't institute the austerity that Cameron did and the GOP would have. :D

Still, the job market remains flat and we could be looking at an ambivalent summer economically. Ordinarily that would really hurt the incumbent, so as nothing as Romney appears to be there is no way I'm counting him out yet. Carter was a nothing candidate whose time had come, and Mittens could also pull that off.

Kind of like parents who alternate between putting on the proud parent act but can't refrain from outward displays of disappointment in their kids.

Man, here's your idiot of the week: when you're running against an Iraq war double amputee you just don't go there, period. Maybe she's implicitly running as the reincarnation of Audie Murphy. Maybe she IS ginning up false outrage over the congressman's comments. So what. She's a double amputee and she got that way in service to her country. End of discussion.

I occasionally got callers to my talk show in Omaha wanting to rip on Bob Kerry for his service in 'Nam and his Medal of Honor. Out of bounds. The guy left part of himself in Vietnam and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his efforts. That's good enough for me.

The fact you Obama lovers are even talking about Mitt has me laughing. Mitts chances are so slim its pathetic. The economy absolutely sucks, polls show people dislike Obamas crowning achievement and Mitt still doesn't have a chance. The Repubs couldn't have picked a worst candidate. he excites no one.

Romney may not have fired up his base, but Obama certainly has. ;)

(Pardon the phrase...) Standing only on your war wounds as a platform is not honorable. Serving the country does not give you a free pass to lord that over someone to generate false outrage.

"Thanks for serving, what are your other qualifications?"

I'm sure I'm in the minority with this opinion, but I do grow tired of it. I felt the same way when we were talking about McCain vs. Obama in 2008 and I think McCain did as well.

Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

Mississippi legislation that would require residents to present valid photo identification in order to vote this November contains a measure that threatens to throw some prospective voters into a disenfranchising catch-22 situation.

The law, signed by Gov. Phil Bryant (R) earlier this year but still pending federal approval, includes a measure allowing Mississipians to get free voter ID cards if they present a birth certificate. But Mississippi law also requires its residents to show valid photo identification in order to get a copy of their birth certificate. Most applicants for voter ID cards are presumed to be seeking them because they don't have another acceptable form of photo ID. In other words, no birth certificate, no voter ID -- but also no photo ID, no birth certificate.

According to the Jackson Free Press, Pamela Weaver, spokeswoman for the Mississippi Secretary of State's office, has confirmed the catch-22.

i don't disagree. I'm merely pointing out the lady is going to demagogue this issue 'till the cows come home. It may be all she's got. And lots of people (a majority?) won't see past her wounds. That's why I don't go there, it can only work to an opponant's disadvantage, IMO. On the other hand, we never elected Audie Murphy or Sergeant York to anything, did we? This is clearly a case where if the Congressman wants to attack her for offering nothing except her DD214, he'd better use a surrogate, preferably one in uniform, preferably one who also suffered grievous wounds. Opening his big yapper has gotten him nothing but grief and allowed her to completely change the subject.

Cal to build high speed train from SF to LA. Much of the federal funds coming from those turned down by Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin.

Really, its sad that Obama fires them up and Mitt makes them want to go to sleep. I saw Mitt and wife in his boat house being interviewed, the guy has nothing to say, he looks fake, sounds fake, he has nothing to say worth hearing.

Walsh made his own bed. I haven't seen any real evidence to back up Walsh's claim that it was all his opponent was running on. And the claim about heroes not talking about sacrifice? Absurd on its face. The fact that John McCain has a personalized Amazon page http://www.amazon.com/John-McCain/e/B001IGNQI8/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1 does not diminish his service or take away from his sacrifice. And in the current case: do you really expect a double-amputee to not acknowledge being a double-amputee? Maybe in an ideal world, I guess. Let me know when we get there. :)

Of course, it's one of those self-fulfilling prophecies. It's true that it's all anyone is talking about *now*. I'm not all that familiar with the case, to be honest, but I bet I can guess. Duckworth now has one or more champions who also happen to be primetime hosts on MSNBC?

I'd say its less a case of Duckworth manipulating national media than a case of national media figures finding Duckworth's story as something convenient for their purposes.

Back to the point: what was Walsh thinking? He strikes me as a guy who won't be challenging Cantor for a leadership position any time soon. Someone get that guy a chair and a copy of "Art of War," because he has the strategic sense of a brick.

The most sympathetic reading I can give it is that Walsh misspoke, in a really unfortunate way.

My father never talked about his service, beyond taking his kids to the Wall in D.C. Didn't answer many of my questions, and never showed me any medals until he was old enough to worry about mortality - and showed me how to open his safe. I still don't know the story behind the purple heart or bronze star, and I respect his decision.

So I can kind of, sort of, understand the point about being stoic. But my dad's silence is his prerogative, not some condition for him being worthy of respect.

Considering how much California pays in federal taxes that get shipped to certain other states, it's about time.

BTW, the new high speed train between Shanghai and Beijing is impressive. Top speed is 350 Km/h (220 mph) and the fastest trip over the 1318 km (820 mi) is just under 5 hours. Too bad we can't do that...
