Election 2024: Dark Brandon to the Resucue!

You’re aware of the Uber successful family member I have that lives near Jeff and Bill.

they told me once they view homes as a savings account. I think that’s the old mentality. I’ve now come around to where you and uno are.

when you look at Americans retirement figures, the amount of people who are millionaires only through unrealized equity in their homes is staggering. That “future wealth” may not exist for them all.

Yeah I get your relatives point...for people in their situation. But yeah it's outdated especially post 2008.

Corporate media really is pushing the "Biden is screwed" narrative today.

Corporate media is really rolling the dice. They are very hopeful of a trump win in November because they are hoping 4 more years of his kind of chaos will be great again for their bottom lines, but that is only if a win by trump doesn't turn us in to fascism central. The mainstream medium was dying until trump came along. They want another shot in the arm. I've said it before, if and when they turn out to be wrong seeing some of them hanging from bridges will make the rest of our downfall a little easier to swallow.

What’s interesting is that after all these years of my family members immense wealth- they just now acquired a second home. And it’s for them, not to rent or make money from. They have no interest in real estate as investments

I saw a story about a week ago that not 1 single billionaire under the age of 30 became so without it being inherited. Not totally bonkers if you consider the big picture, but it illustrates a strong point.

My parents gradually climbed the 'wealth' ladder and they were basically 'self-made', but were it not for my grandfather having befriended Sam Walton which in turn led to them investing early and often in Wal-Mart, they likely never would have made it out of basic middle-class based solely on what my dad did for a living.

Sure, but show me where I can invest in something that is guaranteed to be there in the future? Tbills are probably the closest thing to a sure thing, and even the US credit rating isn’t perfect any more.

You assume property will still exist in the future...have you seen how bad Mother Nature hates us now? And insurance rates for homes are only going to climb and become worse.

IF DGF and I were 15-20 years older I would probably more likely agree with you. But by the time we retire half this country will be under water, on fire or run by idiots who you couldn't pay me to live under.

It is hilarious to see Trump try and mitigate the damage Dobbs did with his little statement on Truth Social. I can't imagine anyone is happy with it...the Evangelicals want a ban which he won't endorse (for now) and the "moderates" are going to be mad about letting states make whatever rules they want which will likely force the issue onto many ballots.

And of course the voters hate all of this.

You beat me to it, was literally gonna post something similar.

some areas will be spared. But floods and fires gonna get whole new crops of people. Heck insurance companies are using drones to inspect roofs and threatening to drop a policy if the roof isn’t replaced if it’s only 10 years old.

when homes aren’t insurable bad things happen

Also, as Biden's statement pointed out, he's lying and will sign it if presented with it.

I agree 100%.

What I wanted Trump to explain yesterday is how if HE put the abortion issue back to the states is it that the Supreme Court is entertaining two more cases on the topic?

Seems to me that overturning Roe Vs. Wade was a big fat fucking failure.

It's quite possible if there's another major, 2008-2010 level recession in the next decade.

I've also pipe-dreamt about a future where more cities do what Minneapolis did and up-zone to encourage higher density residential, increasing the housing stock and driving inflation in the local housing market down. A future which also leans on a majority of Millennials and Zoomers having no or at most 1 kid, and continuing to prefer urban life. Thus the vast suburban and exurban tracts of ugly, aging Pulte and D.R. Horton cookie-cutters might eventually become the new fixer-uppers in 20-30 years, in an ironic "reverse flight" scenario.

It's a future that also probably leans on a lack of immigration, so not likely unless Dump becomes Dick-tator for Eternity, in which case we're all screwed. Indian and Asian immigrants love to flaunt their plasticky, nouveau riche McMansions and green lawns - the 21st Century American Dream (*vom*).

Well if he ever gets interviewed the first follow up to this answer is "If a national ban crosses your desk will you sign it?" and then watch him squirm.

Yes, that is the logical question. And if he answers yes, it invalidates everything he said in his statement that he announced over a week ago as a big deal and ended up being more of his and other conservatives wishy washy BS.

That is why his people are going to do everything to keep him from debating...or even doing interviews outside of Newsmax. He won't be able to stop himself from going off script (he almost does in the Truth Social video) and saying exactly that. Hell he will likely admit it at a rally in Texas or Mississippi or something.

MSNBC and CNN have done an ok job of showing how much he has flip flopped on this. In Feb he was calling for 15 weeks nationally and attacking Flo(R)ida and DeSantis for the 6 week ban. Now he is backtracking on that since "it should be left to the states". He changes opinions almost as fast as Nancy Mace does...

This is why the two current Supreme Court cases are so interesting. IF THIS IS really a state issue, ALL Republicans that are at the Federal Level should be shutting up about it.

It was never about being a State issue. It was always about a complete and total ban.

I’d have to dig deeper but I am not sure much building of duplexes or triplexes has occurred. I think it was a big pat yourselves on the back moment when it passed, but no one was demolishing sfh and putting up a triplex.

still plenty of old homes being razed and replaced by a giant single family new build on a tiny lot, tho.

This study digs into Minneapolis' 2040 plan. It suggest there does seem to be some positive movement but 1) it's difficult to assess and 2) probably too early to have enough data to conclude either way.

And under that scenario, how much will the stock market be worth? How much will government bonds be worth? If you really think the world is going to burn and then flood and then sink into the swamp, where would you suggest that people should invest their money, if not real estate?

(I live 25 ft above sea level on a barrier island off the coast of Florida, so I'm not exactly new to this discussion)
