Election 2024: Dark Brandon to the Resucue!

Except the economy is objectively good. The LFPR is objectively near or at record high levels. U6 is near record low. Nearly everyone who wants a job has one. it's not about the number. It's just a fact. There is a very vocal minority disputing this. The U6 tells us there just aren't that many people underemployed.

Wages are outpacing inflation, especially on the bottom quartile. Inflation overall is down to exactly the historical norm.

Literally the only flaw right now - and it's a big one to be sure* - is the interest rates. People can't afford homes because of lack of building for the last decade and with mortgage rates near the norms it's hard. I get that and acknowledge that. But everyone needs to acknowledge that affording a home the last twenty years was because of the correction during the Great Recession and interest rates near zero.

What we need is more democrats to start putting actual pressure on the top quartile to pay their fair goddamn share for once in their lives. The margins, buybacks, and dividends need to ****ing stop going up and the only way that's going to happen is with democrats. That's where your money is going. That's what we need to fight.

*and even then, it's only because we've had interest rates at zero for so long we've been spoiled.

The fact that I don't know what "LFPR" or "U6" references is exactly the point I'm trying to make. You're talking over my head (and probably 90%+ of the general population).

The messaging needs to be drawn in crayon so that people can apply it to their lives. Yes, super advanced metrics show that the economy is strong. Yet to anyone in the bottom 50% of income, they are struggling to pay their bills. You need to be able to redirect their anger somewhere (taxing the ultra-rich is a good starting point). But again, it needs to be dumbed down so it can be digested by someone who's economic insight begins & ends at their bank account being +/- $0.

Look, I get what you are saying...

But this is something that the D's really need to be able to hit the mark with their messaging on. It's an area that truly does hurt when you are affected and people want to put someone/something to blame. And since most people don't follow economic statistics, you need to be able to speak to them. Continually calling the economy "great" when people are fighting tooth and nail to keep the fridge full and the lights on is NOT a great stance to have as your centerpiece.

I don't get this angle that people are struggling in the sense that some people struggle at any given time.

By all accounts the numbers tell us many corporations are price gouging and Biden can't fix that. If UE is at a strong rate, inflation is steady and wages are up, if some goods and services are out of reach for some that's not on the current administration.

The problem with messaging is threefold: Social media allows any Tom, Dick or Harry to proclaim all is lost even when it's not, the media ignoring the positive realities for clicks and views, and yes partially a lack of widespread messaging from the Dems.

ffs there's a running popular x account that repeatedly cries about increasing fast food prices, but where's the messaging that the CEO of McDo is making tens of millions?

Democrats should also be clamoring for cutting taxes for the bottom 50%. It's absurd how much of all income is being earned by the top 10%, and we have corps like Target paying nearly nothing on taxes.

So ask them what happened to that tax credit for each kid they were getting. What happened to that, why don't they get that anymore? Couldn't they use that money?

And what happens when Dementia Donnie implements his new tariffs on imports?

60% is an awful high bar and won't be easy in Florida. Michigan and Ohio voters enshrined reproductive rights in their constitutions last year but both votes stalled out at just under 57%. No reason to think Florida will be different.

It won't be it's almost a lock the 6 week ban is unpopular even with the GOP voters.

All of this!

Do you have a job? If yes thank a Democrat.

People need to live in reality prices go up since when is that in the President?

The Rock refuses to endorse Biden cause of MAGA talking points...his steroid induced descent to becoming Vince McMahon is almost complete.

LFPR - Labor Force Participation Rate; what percentage of the population is either working or trying to find a job. High LFPR values can have a negative impact on the unemployment rate because because if more people are looking for jobs yet not getting them, then the Unemployment Rate (U) appears greater - AKA bad mojo.

U-6 is one of the six methods used for measuring unemployment. Investopedia has a good explanation for the various methods

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/080415/true-unemployment-rate-u6-vs-u3.asp

I hope this grid pastes well…
U-3 is the most commonly reported rate of unemployment in the U.S.U-6 includes everyone not accounted for in the U-3 rate—the discouraged, underemployed, and unemployed.
It measures the number of people who are jobless but actively seeking employment.Because U-6 includes a wider group of people, its rate is higher than U-3.
Critics maintain that U-3 doesn’t tell the whole story as it excludes part-time workers who want full-time work, and anyone who has given up looking for a job.Proponents of U-6 believe that it is the true unemployment rate.

I'm gonna be fairly open here:

The last three years, I've made more money than I ever have before. I'm currently debt free.

But I have almost no "Retirement" cash set aside.

I'm gonna get royally screwed when my current vehicle dies despite having $15,000 cash available as a down payment.

Home ownership is never going to happen for me.

Currently, I basically have to spend my monthly income on life. There is almost no ability to put away any savings other than cash that is going to be eaten up in the next 1-3 years with a vehicle purchase.

Despite things being "great", it's starting to feel like I'm getting financially raw-dogged by someone, somewhere. No matter what moves I make, I can't pull forward. This is my adult life. Cynicism is baked in because it's at a point to where hope is basically gone. It's effing expensive to be "poor". That's the problem. It's just short of a black hole when it comes to escape.

That's the problem.

You are getting screwed...but the government is not who should get your ire.

Biden and the Dems are not the reason you haven't got to save for retirement.

Just to be clear, I understand the economy is "good".

But just like how gas prices being high ticks EVERYONE off, this is something the D's need to clean up their messaging on. They need to show, not tell, how the economy is doing well. They need to show people that they can turn their finances around with things how they are. They need to show a plan to cut into the corporate greed that is strangling this country.

Capitalism has evolved to a point to where it's become ruthless and harmful. D's need to show how they are gonna fight that.

Honestly- and I know everyone will tell me I’m an idiot- I’m over home ownership. I’m selling my house- second time I’ve sold- and both times, I’ve had horrible timing/luck. I do all the things one should do to get ready- spend a ton of money cause I’m not handy- and then end up selling for tens of thousands less than expected. I have friends who have listed shitboxes that flood when it rains and they get multiple offers opening weekend. It’s all timing.

I say this because- the reason I’m selling is the cost of everything. Taxes and insurance doubling. Trying to handle everything on one income while also trying to save for retirement. Need a new roof? 10-12k min. Driveway? 6-7k min. Furnace or ac, you get the idea.

renting won’t be cheap, but I don’t enjoy home maintenance and I’m never doing this again.

You aren't an idiot...renting as a single person at these prices makes sense. If now people thought like you and not the nimrods who think HGTV is the real world half this mess wouldnt exist.

People act like every 25 year old has always been able to own a home. It used to take work to own a home...years of planning and saving. The Housing Boom of the 2000s lead to a new dynamic where everyone believes it was not only possible but their god given right to own one.

We need to go back to that.
