EC will be fine

Re: EC will be fine

I'm no math or computer whizz but something is amiss in all these numbers. You think that any conference awash in such weak SOS' and inept teams(lebval 0-50) would not stack-up in any conf-conf season series. Can someone tell me how the ecacw compares to the suny in a conf.-conf season series?

If you look at those numbers, you'll see 0.517 OOC overall. Since LVC was 0-7, the rest of the league did fairly well. This also means that by playing a decent NC schedule, ECAC W teams should end up with an OWP over 0.500. The fact that Mville didn't come close to that speaks to the quality of who they played.

Re: EC will be fine

JConnor-I too am worried about their play and have been a been attending since the late 70's. I will have to say Elmira has fallen from what can be called an elite Division III hockey program. About time they start winning some National Championships. I know easier said than done but you can not start the process by playing great hockey all year and then decide come playoff time they rather be somewhere else. I brought this up last year whether it was coaching or leadership. There has been a coaching change but seems like the same team as of late. Almost seems like they lack the intensity to play this time of year. If someone could give an answer I would love to know. Remember this is a program whose conference in years past has consisted of RIT, Mercyhurst, Canisius, Niagra; have played teams like Air Force, Army etc and competed. These teams obviously are now DI and the past is the past. It was not to many years ago playing Hobart was a joke. Now Hobart's program is on par with Elmira. Where did Utica, Manhatannville, Neumann come along and be able to recruit and compete with Elmira. Why has this program unable to reach the next level?

those were the years I played. a lot has changed since then

Has it though?

The faces (other teams) may have changed but EC still remains the same...

Elmira is arguably the best program to never win a D-III national title and why is that? That's the question.

while you played..RIT always beat us (for the most part) and blocked our root into the NCAA's.

In the early part of this decade, EC started slow and then really turned it up down the stretch, but by then they were out of the running for an NCAA bid.

Lately, EC has crumbled down the stretch.

Re: Don't look too far.

I disagree. Why wouldn't the College want a Men's National Championship now that they have TWO Women's Titles?
It's the players who decide what happens on the ice, it's THEIR game to win. They have all played hockey long enough to know what it takes to win.

This team CAN DO IT!! We all know that, I guess THEY need to know that too!

I agree with JConnor and that it is the players responsibility and they definitely have the talent to get it done. Looking forward to the game Saturday night against Utica or Neumann!

Bet alot of people in Elmira NY rooting for Utica in that one...Probably some guys in that locker room as well. Neumann has Elmira's #...

I for one would prefer Neumann. We beat Utica 3/3 games this year, outscored them 21-5, there is nothing to prove there. Neumann? it's "Payback Time".
Plattsburgh is the only team we faced this year that we did not win a game against.

Re: EC will be fine

This time of year is not about proving anything it's about match ups and Neuman would be a bad match up for the old Eagles.

I disagree, it's about winning every game from here on out, regardless of which team that may be.
What's this "Old" Eagles?

Re: EC will be fine

I have to agree with the posters who say that elmira has a bit of a gagging issue.Until you can win your last game you have a choking problem as does m'ville itself.Look at this littany of m'ville last games lost:elmira06,middlebury07,norwich08,hobart09 and 2010?

ELMIRA;)

Re: EC will be fine

This time of year it doesn't make sense to hope for one opponent over another.
To BE the best, you've gotta beat the best. I would enjoy ending Neumann's season the way they ended ours last year. It makes it that much sweeter if you beat the best teams.
Also, about the ECAC-West losing the Pool B bid in 2012, we will still be eligible for the Pool C, and I'm not sure the ECAC-West champ wouldn't still get that if there were no Pool B this year. I think if EC won the tournament, they would still be in the running under that scenario.

Re: EC will be fine

Not likely, look at the NCAA East rankings and they are behind 4 teams that won't get pool A bids They are behind 4 NESCAC teams and 2 SUNYAC teams, and at most two of them will get Pool A bids. With 3 pool C bids in 2012, and no Pool B bids, the ECAC west would not even be the last team out.

Re: EC will be fine

Once the MASCAC gets its Pool A bid, there will be no Pool B. If that had happened this year, my reading is that the ECAC West would be left out in the cold. Somehow the ECAC West needs to add two (now) teams or be in jeopardy of becoming irrelevant. Adding two teams before the MASCAC autobid would preserve Pool B, while the league went through the two year waiting period.

Why would the ECAC West lose the Pool B bid? What does MASCAC have to do with that? If it becomes a question of number of teams in the tournament then Pool C should lose one if it's three bids. Please explain if there is a rule that I am otherwise unaware of.

It's about numbers. To determine the number of Pool B bids, you divide the number of pool A spots into the number of pool A teams. That is the access ratio. You divide the number of Pool B teams by the access ratio and round down. The access ratio is guaranteed to be at least 7. 5/7 doesn't even come close to 1. Therefore 0 pool B bids. I suspect that if there were 7 teams in Pool B, they'd let it go, but not with 5 or even 6 teams.

Thanks NUProf. As I said I was not aware of a rule. But in a perverted NCAA way it does make sense.

This mess makes my head hurt. ;)

You very well could be correct, but I don't think that's a definite. One thing I've learned over 35 years is that it seems every year the NCAA Committee pulls something unexpected out of their butts. Especially with the wanting to give Adrian an opponent under 500 miles scenario.
This doesn't come into play this year fortunately, but in the "no Pool B" scenario, I don't think it's a gimme that EC wouldn't get it.

Neumann up 2-0 after 2 periods of play. Not what Elmira wanted. Hope they are game planning. Try something different maybe 1-5-1 in there last 7 against the knights.
