East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

That is the first time UNH has put three solid periods together since at BU in January.

I think they were even better tonight then that night. Pressed the pace, had guys in front even if none of the goals were because of that, played puck possession and they remembered hockey is a contact sport.

I am concerned that they will not bring this game tomorrow, just been so inconsistent all year.

I have posted regularly when UNH remebers that hockey is a contact sport they play well. Big key for however long this run lasts.

Cornell is not going to want to see UNH again in the NCAAs anytime soon. Sorry Cornell fans you had a great season and apparently hit this UNH team at just the wrong time.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

What a bracket! Congrats to RIT.. whom I correctly predicted would advance to tomorrow!!;)

W/ Cornell and UNH... Yes UNH played well- very well defensively. They were in the lanes and their sticks were everywhere.. Great backchecking all around as well
But I think it was simply a tail of 2 streaks coming to an end tonight.. Scrivens had not given up a goal in over 10+ periods and UNH hadn't scored in about 9.. and then the dam broke... Cornell was on the wrong side of the dam.

Tomorrow, I hope, is fun and that UNH playes with that same determination. Have UNH and RIT ever played eachother?

Big props to UNH tonight. They controlled play all first period and got burned on a bad play by one of the D-men up against the net. I'll say that I got worried a bit in the second, as Cornell started to get going, but the Butler twine-ripper really changed the momentum...if for no other reason then it stalled the game for a bit. Then after Sislo made it 2-1, you could see Cornell tighten up again. It clearly wasn't Cornell's night and I'm glad that we could get ahead, because they are clearly a better team then they showed tonight and a different team when protecting a lead.

While it was a totally different game, the underdog UNH team takes out another Cornell Hobey candidate goalie in the tourney tonight, as they did in '02-'03 with Dave LeNeveu. That was a great game to be at, w/ the 'Cats being big underdogs and Mike Ayers making that mask save with under a minute to go.

Just hope that the 'Cats can sustain the intensity tomorrow against another good goalie. Good luck 'Cats!

Not unless it was a long, long time ago when DII RIT used to play DI teams on occasion. Definitely not since RIT went DI. Hope it's another great game tomorrow.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

This region was a huge disappointment. Terrible play from Denver and Cornell, with almost every goal being scored off of some of the worst turnovers I have ever seen.
Ugly games showcasing uncharacteristic play all around.

RIT can't play with that much energy and with that hot of a goalie two nights in a row, UNH will win this while the crowd of 500(after RIT fans leave) falls asleep

upsets are interesting for a short time but in the end it just means the later games are more lopsided

Why can't RIT play that way again?

Miserable analysis.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Agree. I was there back in 2000, I think it was, The BU/St. Cloud four overtime game, waiting for Maine to play the second game, and the place was packed. Figured it would have been the same, with the UHN crowd, and Cornell who you could consider the local team. Guess not.

Since you brought up a bad memory, I thought I would correct you. It was BU/St. LAWRENCE...when Rick DiPietro (BU) made 77 saves and lost in the 4th overtime.

As for the attendance...let's just say I can think of many better venues than Albany. I don't know why they keep going back there...

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Wow, who peed in this dudes corn flakes. Props to two tams who played with heart.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

After watching those 2 games have to say I was not impressed with either of the top seeds! UNH played great and took it to them, they looked like how Maine played vs. BU last weekend.

Congrats UNH from this Maine fan. Now the pressure is on as your no underdog tomorrow and should be punching a ticket to Detroit! And shameless plug I have a FF tic ket for sale!

Bob,
If UNH wins tomorrow, I would buy it assuming it is a decent seat. Mind you, I'm not sure there is a good seat for hockey at Ford Field, but.....I digress.

Go Cats! Beat R.I.T!

Right.. so favorites should always win.. that exciting.. lets stop play and give the title to Miami, now!

Man, I'zon, did you ever get it right! Here's your quote:

I'll stick with the RIT upset.. why not! 3-2 in OT.

UNH won't have 4 wks of rust on them coming into this Cornell game.
UNH 5 Cornell 2

the big UNH-RIT Final. 4-1 Cats.

(OK, so in your prediction you gave both DU and RIT an extra goal, and took one away from UNH, but who's counting? You called the winners. Good job! I'm rooting for you to bat 1.000 this weekend!)

Go, I'zon! Go Cats!

Obviously, favorites fail to perform all the time. Wisky also has their hands ful with Vermont. So, tonight may belong to Cinderella, but will she be able to wear the glass slipper?;)

As 7th seed in CCHA tourney, Michigan could be considered a Cinderella story of course, if we were not Michigan. But, tomorrow we will see if these David vs. Goliath stories continue and more No. 4 seeds make the Regional Finals.

It seems that each remaining No. 1 seed has been warned by tonight's results, as well as No. 2 seeds.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

And how come there were apparently a lot more Cornell fans in town last week than this week?

OK.........can we finally, unequivocally say that Albany has completely lost it's mojo as a site for hockey???

Last weekend the ECAC tournamanent out drew an NCAA regional???!!!!!! I watched the Cornell./UNH game on TV and the place looked absolutely desolate. With Denver being the only team from "away".....Cornell used to the trip every year, UNH and RIT being all not that far away you'd have to say the turnout was horrible. It looks like there must have been NO LOCAL INTEREST to see some of the top teams in NCAA hockey. RIP Albany...River Rats leaving....ECAC leaving.....horrible attendance at an NCAA regional, I guess if it's not basketball Albany isn't the place. I'll be interested to see what the attendance figures are tomorrow in Worcester. The NCAA would have to be crazy to book another Regional in Albany.

Is it just the economy.....lack of interest, what's up with so few people at a premiere NCAA event??????

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Only one thing to blame and that is the government...im sure alot of people still watched the games, and it was fantastic hockey.

I agree it was a poor regional--tomorrow's game won't draw more than 4k.
Very little local interest. Congrats to RIT-- I can't see them beating UNH--they look dialed in for the FF

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

FANTASTIC efforts tonight from both RIT and UNH! Definitely worth the $80 and 2+ hour drive from Syracuse to check these games out!

Huge efforts by both teams tonight, and really looking forward to tomorrow's regional final!

A special thanks to that group of UNH students (if any of you happen to by USCHO posters) that kept me and my friends entertained all game long. Disappointed that such a small group of you came, but entertaining none the less.

Sorry to burst your bubble there, son, but RIT usually plays with that much energy. And DeMichiel has been that hot for weeks. And RIT fans don't leave, no matter how the game is looking.

RIT was great. Congrats. You're my new team. Words can't describe the pain I'm feeling (and rest of DU fans) but I guess it's balanced out by your joy. There was one guy RIT fan in the campus tonight. He was a great guy. Played in 2001-2003 or something like that.

If my memory serves me well, I've seen the last three Cornell/UNH playoff games, and I don't know what it is (besides, of course, that UNH is always a great team with strong coaching from Umile--hard to really consider them an underdog), but they are amazingly good at throwing our goalies off their game, starting with Underhill the year before the very disappointing LeNeveu FF game (worst I had seen Dave all year)...and of course, today. And it sounds like the game earlier this year between the two wasn't a good match b/c UNH was off their game. It would be great to see the two teams match up when they are both playing their best--it would be one heck of a game (with a pretty rowdy group of fans to support it!). Congrats UNH and RIT on two good games today...hope both teams come with the energy they had today--will be an exciting match-up if they do!
