I believe Sinclair is bulletproof. Those are liberal cities but the Sinclair outlets are serving the MAGA audience there. The only leverage we have on Sinclair, Newsmax, etc is we can threaten the diversified consumer goods mega-corps (Proctor & Gamble, 3M, Unilever, Pepsi, Nestle, Nike, InBev, Tysons) who serve both the MAGA and reason-based communities.

They’re not bullet proof, especially in the age of streaming. Disney can always pull the affiliation when the time to negotiate comes up and go somewhere else. Broadcast affiliates are becoming less relevant in the age of Hulu and Netflix. They still have their place but Sinclair is noticeably losing on that front (like on local sports for example).

Also, people are starting to go after their local advertisers too. Local advertisers are the backbone for Sinclair and it’s ilk, especially the high value slots during college football and MNF.

Well, if a country doesn't have "Tylenol" because they can't afford it, I would venture to guess the testing for autism is lacking. They specifically called out Cuba as not using "Tylenol" and not having the high rate of autism. What they didn't say is that Cuba does have acetaminophen. In the Amish community, they don't go to the doctor unless they have to, and they typically handle things from within. Someone from the Amish community isn't going to go through all the medical testing that is needed for an autism diagnosis.

If the Democrats dont shut down the government they will lose the Midterms bad...book it! He is teying to shame them but he knows this is the only leverage they have.

Regarding ancestry - I know that at least one part of my tree can be traced as far back as 17th century Switzerland, but the most intriguing relative I've found so far was someone that served as a Captain in the Pennsylvania Militia from 1776 - 1778 and at one point had a fort in his name. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not he at one time was in battle alongside Washington.

7 of my 8 great grandparents had the following surnames - Overmire, Olsen, Stavig, Maedl, Schmaltz, Peterson and Anderson.

Not as sexy as Scotch Romanian.

Yes. Nobody outside of solid GOP voters is going to blame the Democrats for a shut down. Hold firm.

Right now all the corporate pressure is being brought to bear on us because we always fold. So, don't. The GOP will face levels of pressure mounting to hysteria if their donors sense there could actually be a shut down.

It's really a no-lose situation for the Dems because giving the GOP wins destroys the country just as fast as shut downs or even defaults would.
 
I grew up hearing that my grandfather never knew who his father was.

A few years ago, I was at an event, and ran into a relative from the side of the family we don't know really well, barely have association with. At some point in the family tree there was a split, some who lived in one town, others in another, and never the twain shall meet.

Anyway, he's a bit of a historian, and when I related the story, he goes, "Oh, I know". Turns out, my grandfather's father was the husband of his mother's sister. No idea the actual process by which that happened, but I can guess.

Also heard that my maternal grandmother's side were descended from someone in the Mayflower, but not sure how true that might be.

People really do not understand the 1st Amendment and how it works. Again, we all accepted Stephen Colbert being cancelled. It sucked, we talked about it and moved on. The Kimmel situation is different because the FCC is involved. Trump literally stated a while ago Jimmy was next.

People are literally comparing it to Trump getting kicked off twitter, or what happened to Roseanne, etc. Apples and Oranges. Obama and Biden and any other Democratic Lawmaker had nothing to do with any of that.

Bill Maher is on tonight. Curious to see what does.

The report details the monthslong campaign by the Biden White House to coerce large companies, namely Facebook, Google, and Amazon, to censor books, videos, posts, and other content online. By the end of 2021, Facebook, YouTube, and Amazon changed their content moderation policies in ways that were directly responsive to criticism from the Biden Administration.

After reviewing tens of thousands of emails and nonpublic documents between the Biden White House and Big Tech, the Committee's report reveals:

  • Big Tech changed their content moderation policies because of the Biden White House
  • The Biden White House's censorship targeted true information, satire, and other content that did not violate the platforms' policies
  • The Biden White House's censorship campaign had a chilling effect on other speech
  • The White House had leverage because the companies had other policy concerns involving the Biden Administration
  • The Biden White House pushed censorship of books, not just social media
