Dump Term 2, Part 2: "A third term would be a big shattering."

I happened to be on the phone with a producer friend I have in Hollywood when the news broke and he told me the reason...and it will likely never be made fully public. According to him and access he has to various revenue stream information ABC saw a drop of about 25% in overall revenue over the weekend. (with more coming) That would be mainly from cancelations to Hulu and Di$ney along with a disaster of an ESPN app launch which was compounded by people refusing to even sign up for it because of all this. I didn't probe much further (mainly because were discussing a project I might work on with him since I got canceled and have the time to devote to it) but that kind of revenue risk is unacceptable to a Di$ney Corp that is already looking at issues in other areas.

Honestly if I was Kimmel I would torch them every night like Letterman did NBC (and Stern on WNBC) and make them fire you. You are on your last contract anyways go out in a blaze of glory.

For the longest time it was thought that one of my great-great grandfathers moved to Australia from Scotland for the same reason people around here move to Arizona, allergies and the climate.

When I was 15 the family was set straight by one of my dad’s cousins, who still lives near Sydney. He was sent there for attempting to nick some precious stones.

It came as especially big news to my parents specifically. They named me after him.

Ahh, the Royal Penal Colony! I had kind of forgot about that part of history.

Now the question is whether they will be willing to take on Sinclair. They have ABC affiliates in some key markets like DC, Seattle and Portland.

Edit: Wouldn't be surprised if the WWE event on ESPN was also a contributor to the disaster.

Oh my yes, based on my friend's son's reaction. $8-12 on Peacock to $30 on ESPN with two weeks notice instead of 3 months.

You and I are of a slightly different generation. My Mom told me when they got their first telephone in the 30s both my grandparents refused to use it. My grandfather thought it was uncouth (consider: my grandfather was a bartender*). My grandmother thought, and I swear I am not making this up, that it was haunted. She was old enough to have grown up during the heyday of spiritualism.

Fun fact: our second apartment in Boston was on top of a Swedenborgian church. Not the New Church. Some old school followers of the True Way. Rappings and shit.

* I only recently found this out. Growing up my mother always assured us her father had been "a banker." At my dad's funeral I was talking with some our our Pennsylvania relatives, and they set me straight. I looked at the census records and they were right. He was just the barman who took the money down to the bank. So, Trusted Circle, I guess?

Look up your ancestors' professions in the census, it's fascinating. I come from a line of "unskilled laborer" and, my personal favorite, "occupation unverifiable."
My Grandfather on moms side was a concierge at the Vanderbilt Hotel in NYC. During prohibition if a guest wanted some liquor he was the guy to see, also if you wanted tickets to some event, Yankees, Boxing, etc he would get them somehow :) The Vanderbilts had a hotel in Newport Rhode island to house all their summer guests who partied at the mansion. So every summer my mom would move to a 3rd beach apt while her dad worked. I can remember swimming there as a kid. Wish I heard more of the stories.

WWE lost me as a customer a while ago. And I will never buy ESPN. Kind of sick of sports in general anyway.

This. Jimmy has F.U. money anyway and obviously he will be snapped up elsewhere like Colbert. It's also deterrence: treat us this way and we will tear your insides out.

The single-minded pursuit of profit optimization that is capitalism's greatest attraction for ideological activists can also be turned against them.

Always a good idea to be saying "there's a rumor" in your supposedly science-based press conference.
It's an admirable cause and I'm sure could use more money toward research and science. Unfortunately they chose to scare, lie, and destroy everything that has already been done.

I believe Sinclair is bulletproof. Those are liberal cities but the Sinclair outlets are serving the MAGA audience there. The only leverage we have on Sinclair, Newsmax, etc is we can threaten the diversified consumer goods mega-corps (Proctor & Gamble, 3M, Unilever, Pepsi, Nestle, Nike, InBev, Tysons) who serve both the MAGA and reason-based communities.

Always a good idea to be saying "there's a rumor" as proof and asking "is that statement correct, by the way" after you say something in your supposedly science-based press conference.

Oh shit, so I totally missed it. What causes Autism? Is it Critical Race Theory?

Well I'll bet Kenvue's gonna love that. They must not have forked over enough dough.

Fun fact: why Kenvue was spun off from Johnson & Johnson in the first place (per Wikipedia):

The New York Times noted that Johnson & Johnson had long benefited from a "halo effect", namely a lingering positive connotation ascribed to the company name stemming from its popular household brands such as Johnson's Baby, but that its reputation had declined as a result of various controversies in recent years

Wait so there are more cases of autism when during pregnancy the mother took the only painkiller you can take while pregnant than versus other painkillers?

They should look into the fact that more cases of autism have occurred when the kid lives somewhere where the sun rises in the east as opposed to the west.
They really are the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet.

These are all the same people you knew in high school who eventually all found their way into selling Herbalife and NFTs

It was. That was screwed up from the jump because WWE pushed up the launch of the PLEs on the platform and ESPN was not ready for it. A lot of customers that should have had access to the app because of cable (like legit, all Comcast customers) or ESPN+ tier status. (which it sounds like ESPN might have futzed with)

Tim Miller's "the most depressing 35 minutes of my life" on the Bulwark is a good video. It shows him on a Piers Morgan panel with some clowns, notably Kerri Lake. It did not go well.
