Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Just as the origins of "Jack and the Beanstalk" may be of interest to scholars, but not me. It is also irrelevant to me whether Churchill was first or 101st to spread this lie. It's a lie. And he was probably the highest profile person so spread it, in about a half a dozen publications and articles.
Fair enough. I believe the proof I have seen in the same way that you believe the proof you have seen.

And I can prove I'm not anti-white. Some of my best friends are white. :)

I read RWD's blog. I understand her point. It's completely wrong, but I understand her point.

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

I don't see anyone saying the "smallpox blanket" chant is harmless, Old Pio is just pointing out that it its based on false information.
He's pointing out that it's based on information that some (definitely not all) respected historians believe to be false.

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

They went to the school to play hockey. I'm not sure of anyone who came to UND so they could play under a specific nickname.

I know what you're saying. I'm trying to stay in the specific guidelines of the NNNC stance. They still chose to play for the Sioux, whereas no one chose to be a certain color. ;)

Mine too. Whadya know, common ground. Why I even had a Jewish pledge son. Let me remind you that not all "proof" is created equal. As a for instance, how many individuals have been "proven" to have killed JFK? Ten? 110?"

Thank Parise only rarely.

Stupid questions deserve stupid answers. For the record I think tPB said things that were over the line. They issued an apology, now we can move on to important issues. Like, is Rau a pansy for not actually killing Zucker?

Well, he's barely 4 feet tall. He did an amazing job with what he had to work with. ;)

I'll agree to disagree, so I'll change my hypo slightly...

Do Duluth fans shout slurs at every Jewish person they meet?

I'm still waiting for you to answer my question on your furrydom.

No one EVER said it actually happened. But he is saying it was just some fabricated tall tale, and it wasn't. The British military actually strongly considered using that tactic in the French and Indian War. So really, it's not based on false information. Its origins are actually in a real plan that never got implemented.

Well looky here? Who knew two white guys from the Chicago area who went to DU could agree on something? :)

"No means yes, if you wear that dress, you're gonna get if you turn him on"
-Tina Schlieske

That's about as vociferous as I plan to get. :)

This isn't a case of blaming the victim. How has UND been victimized? They have not. UND has a racist mascot, and is also causing harm to the same people tUMD's students did. UND created and perpetuated the environment.

I suppose you'll want to blame tUMD students for this:

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

I read RWD's blog. I understand her point. It's completely wrong, but I understand her point.

I should go back here. It's not wrong. It's just chock full of gigantic holes. The whole "3rd party" thing makes sense. But isn't something like "Husky Women" hurtful to all women who go to MTU or SCSU? That's not hurtful to the players. Also, the thing about someone reporting her sign at MacInnes is not only idiotic, it's completely unrelated to the point. What if the person who reported that sign worked for an animal shelter saving dogs for a living? I'm sure that cute little sign wouldn't be too funny.

So now you're retreating to "one occasion" and "one high ranking European" who allegedly "considered" this tactic. Well, if that isn't "proof" that the United States Army did it on the occasion claimed, what is?

Quit trying to hijack the thread. The intent of the chant was obvious. If you want to debate American History, go do it somewhere else.

Re: Duluth hockey fans warned after racist chants

Well, it's the same concept. A people who have been reduced to a nickname. And the Irish were treated very badly here back in the day.

I'm making sure that anyone defending the "no nickname, no chants" thought will stay consistent if someone chants that at the Irish.
Yeah, but seriously... screw the Irish.
