Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Which match-ups are you all looking forward to most next season?

As a PSU fan I am really looking forward to seeing RIT at home. Miss the old PSU/RIT men's games from years past. Really disliked the Tigers back in the day. That dislike was easy to transfer to the women's side after a few defections a few years back. :) Hopefully the schedule comes out soon so we can circle those dates this winter.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Plattsburgh returns to the Thunderdomes in Elmira for the first time since 2009 after EC made back-to-back trips the last two years due to the schedule changes.

Any idea Prez if Elmira is still part of the Pather/Cardinal Classic tournament?

Haven't heard anything to the contrary yet.

There were rumblings about some changes, but I think its still going to be the same four teams this year.

Maybe 2012-13 there were be some changes.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

The Cardinal Panther Classic, which has moved to Thanksgiving weekend this year is still very strong with Elmira, Plattsburgh, Amherst and Middlebury. Might be tough to coordinate another weekend with all of the teams. Norwich has their tournament earlier in the year, well before the NESCAC's would be ready. Coaches are not allowed on ice until November 1, so their seasons are a little more compressed.

There is no doubt it's the strongest tournament field year in and year out for the most part.

Norwich's East/West Hockey Classic though this season is pretty darn close if not better with Elmira, Norwich, Manhattanville, and RIT all coming to Kreitzberg.

If the proposed "women's primelink" tournament did indeed happen, what's to say Norwich can't either move its tournament or play in another one?

Norwich already plays a home and home with Plattsburgh and rotates a single game with Amherst and Middlebury.

You eliminate one or two of those games or drop your extra OOC and you can play in both tournaments.

East/West Hockey Classic (2)
"women's primelink" (2)

still leaves three OOC games to schedule with Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Amherst etc.

Now nothing is to say that Plattsburgh and Middlebury would agree to giving up rotating the tournament between the two every year and instead make it every three years.

Time will tell. But like I said, as far as I know, no major changes this season.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

I hear Amherst has River Falls 1/18 and St. Thomas 1/19.

My comment you quoted should read River Falls on wed...that one is confirmed. If that is the case, kinda what I was expecting. I don't get coming all the way out there for two games and going home.

You have to remember the midwestern character of the Lord Jeff roster. The 16 returning players include 4 from Minnesota and one each from Iliinois, Michigan and Alberta. Amherst plays 16 NESCAC games and has only 6 non-conference spots. The out of region games, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong on this, do not have too much upside come NCAA selection time ((despite the obvious quality of these western opponents, playing non-conference powers Norwich, Plattsburgh and RIT have much more upside). I think the Lord Jeffs like to "show the flag" for their western family and friends (and future players, as they do recruit out west).

Out of region games only count in secondary criteria. In the primary criteria, those two games against River Falls and St. Thomas will not show up in Amherst's record at all and are only to be taken under consideration if secondary criteria is needed.

Yes, St. Thomas has posted their schedule, and they're playing Amherst on the 19th.

I wonder if they use it as a recruiting tool for the midwest girls....a promise to travel out there every other year so parents can see them play?

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Sorry...not thinking much of the new NESCAC schedule experiment. At Midd we get to see Trinity, Bowdoin and Conn..along with H-H w/ Williams. No Amherst or Colby at Kenyon in regular season. Hopefully the non-con schedule will be exciting!!

The ECAC West does this. I wish they would have a travel partner system so you're guaranteed to see everyone once. Too bad we have to wait and see Plattsburgh for two years.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Poor Adrian has to go back there and relive last March. But hey, new year, new coach, new attitude for the players (maybe).
