Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

I was told when Potsdam added women's hockey to become the 5th SUNY school playing D-III a few years ago that the SUNYAC women's league would never form until there were seven SUNY schools sponsoring women's hockey. But, if they ever did get to seven, it would likely form and IIRC they might even HAVE to form it because a certain percentage of the teams in the SUNY would be sponsoring the sport meaning the conference must start sponsoring it.

Right now we have:

Buffalo State
Cortland
Oswego
Plattsburgh
Potsdam

I know that Brockport has a club team but I haven't heard of any movement to elevate the team to Varsity.

SUNY Canton is in the process of elevating all of their athletic teams to D-III. They currently have men's hockey and I believe have explored the options of adding women's hockey once they become full time D-III in 2016. There are two schools right there that could down the road force the formation of the SUNYAC.

Okay so maybe it doesn't have legs...more like little nub's I guess. 2016? That's an eternity away.

Hell, at my age I don't even buy ripe banana's anymore... :)

See post in Coaching changes. It is a GREAT DAY for Adian womans Hockey. Too bad it didn't happen a couple of years sooner.

I would agree....all the crap I have heard from parents and players about that coach means that this is a good move for Adrian.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Anyone know who else Amherst is playin out west?

Where the Amherst people on this? They aren't on St Thomas' schedule or Lake Forest. I don't imagine they will fly out here to play crappy west teams...I'm hopin Superior shows up on that schedule.

UST has their schedule out? I don't think they would fly out here to play UWS as they nearly fall into that category you're talking about. Joking jackets...

Looking at their site again, it is last years...I guess I assumed that since it didn't have results listed that it was next years.

Well, since the date is Jan. 18, 2012 (and Amherst didn't play RF last year), it sure looks like the Jeffs will make a western road trip.... but weird that they're scheduled for RF on a Wednesday....

Amherst's schedule's not posted yet that I can find.

I'd assume they play GAC on Wed and maybe a series on Fri/sat??

I assume you mean they play RF on Wed and a series Fri/Sat ... and I would agree, but from looking at the "local" teams whose schedules are available, all seem to have both the prior and following weekends booked.

Thats what i meant haha. The only higher caliber teams that don't have a schedule released are St Thomas and UW-Superior out west. They have played st thomas a bit in the past, so thats a possibility there.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

You just called St. Thomas a high caliber team? Usually I like giving you a hard time Jackets, but St. Thomas isn't that good. Early exits in the past two playoffs, one game over .500 and a lack of scoring this past year. They have some talent there and more coming soon so they really need to have a good 2011-2012. Maybe the West isn't that good? Meaning the quality of "high caliber teams" just isn't that abundant. If i were Amherst, i would try to play a mid week at SNC and two at UWRF. With the cost of team travel, how can anyone afford to go anywhere for 3-4 nights? Airfare, rental vans, lodging and meals add up real quick.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

The ECAC West could easily have as many as six teams legitimately ranked in the top 10 nationally next season for most of the season.

ya you are right...I should have said past high caliber teams. For one, It's Amherst..they can afford it. 2) Amherst has 6 or 7 players from MN that would be home for break anyway...and if I remember last time they came out the team spent most of the time with those familes...if i remember right.

We're doin this already? we know that the ECAC-W is god's gift to D3 women's hockey..thank you

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

I don't believe 6 of the 10 will be nationally ranked for a majority of the season. Utica and Neumann will be Nationally ranked for most of the season???

Too many games against too many good teams for that to happen. There may be 6 very good teams but just too many losses for that to happen.

As for point 1, in this environment, I'm not sure any school can just "afford it."

Better with point 2: I'm counting at least 3 returning players from MN, not sure about incoming FY's. As I recall, yes, I think I read or heard that the players stayed with local families.

Yes, I talked with Coach Plumer about this.

Last time Amherst went out they stayed with five or so families of Minnesota kids.
