Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Do any D3 schools have their games broadcasted or web-casted?

Norwich will have eight of their home women's game broadcasted by a professional company in NSN.

Norwich's live video broadcasts are top notch for D-III video streams. The only school that rivals them is Oswego's completely student produced broadcast.

RIT gets a couple on TV every season, using the same production facilities and cameras as the men -- which means High Def. As well, I believe some folks from the radio station were looking into broadcasting all women's games on the radio this year.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Stevenson has marketed this job a few times, and I heard in the past never interviewed anyone. I am not sure if that is their intent this time around, but I have not heard of anyone interviewing. I said on another thread that they are in Baltimore and likely will have to travel to play. I do not think that the ECACWest will vote them in. They are two hours past Neumann, which is already a hike for most. In contrast, Stevenson does everything right in their other sports, they are a major player in DIII sports in Baltimore, Philly and DC.

Just thought I'd bump this discussion up a bit, as they have hired a coach, Vis from Elmira. Their site doesn't specify anything like league/independent status, but I wouldn't mind hearing if anyone else has views on this new program. Reminds me a bit of Adrian, as a new program in a hockey rich area (less so than Michigan perhaps, but still...) without any other programs.

Manhattanville women will be looking to fill their head coaching spot. Eric Lang has moved into the men's head coach role after Keith Levinthal stepped down as the men's head coach and will now just be the Athletic Director.

Wow. What is it these days with all these coaching changes late into the summer or in the two most recent cases just before the season starts....Niagara, followed by Trinity, followed by Manhattanville.....Who is next ?.

This one is a bit strange though as both the departing coaches stay on the campus. Not sure that happens very often. Given the timing you would have to beleive that they have someone already in place or one of the assistants is going to step up. 16 days and counting till the East/West Classic...

I agree with Fiver that seems like it might be something that has been in the works for awhile. I'm sure Manhattanville has its ducks in a row and will be making an announcement soon on who the women's coach will be. Odds are they are probably elevating the assistant up to head coach. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Expect assistant David Turco (Lang's former player @ AIC) to take over the women's program. He is well respected and a great hockey mind. Good luck to Lang on the other side of things.

Agree that this internal shuffle was arranged, before it was announced, but the timing of it is still odd. IMHO get this stuff out of the way in the April to June timeframe to properly prep for the season. Having said that, sometimes there are changing personal circumstances, that most would not be aware off, dictating unplanned changes.

Maybe they didn't want to upset the new kid's and their parents before they got settled in. :) Slightly better than what Niagara did.

The first roster of the year has been posted on collegehockeystats.net
The Chatham Cougars will have 22 players this year.
Good luck ladies.

There was an article posted about it on the Men's forum that I'm too lazy to go find right now. Basically said Levinthal wasn't going to step down until everything was in order for Lang to succeed him. He was proud of having been able to choose his own successor. My interpretation for the reasoning for the time of the announcement was that either they had some hoops to jump through to make sure the switch was legal and all that jazz, or they were waiting until they had a suitable replacement lined up for Lang on the women's side and simply couldn't hold off any longer.

I doubt this was a surprise to any of the players on either team.
