Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

Let's start with returning goalies. RIT and Elmira are the only two quality teams that have starters coming back (can't talk about M'ville, never saw them last year). Norwich, Amherst, Plattsburgh and Middlebury all graduated senior goalies. Even Oswego will have a big hole to fill in net. It will be interesting to see a new crop of tenders in the league.

The most motivated teams should be RIT and Platty. Just ask how motivated Norwich was this year after losing in NC last year. Tigers should be ready to go right from the start. I'm throwing Platty in there b/c of how their season ended. Losing in the ECACW final and not getting an at-large bid, and then watching the team that got the at-large bid win it all, probably didn't sit to well with them during the summer.
Norwich will be there again, regardless of who they graduated. They have enough experience from the last three years.

And I love how 54F is talking about Mville over recruiting. EC graduated 1, bringing in 7 with more to come? Last time i checked Mville was in the NCAA's and EC lost to Utica in the quarters of the ECACW. Hopefully Fargo gets this team back to where they should be. And honestly I could care less about over recruiting, just busting your balls. Coaches should get the best players, regardless of roster size.

Norwich, Platty RIT and a sacrificial lamb from the West will be in the FF. Hosted by Norwich.

Elmira, Middlebury and Amherst will make the NCAA tournament but lose in the first round.

NEC - sorry girls, not this year.

Ya over recruiting is probably a poor choice of phrases but not sure what else to call it. I agree EC has done the same and prob for the same reasons in trying to find the right mix of players and chemistry to get er done.

Can't say I agree however with your prognostication for the FF...replace Platty with EC and I'm on board. Any money on GAC being there again or is this the year that Go J's Yellow Jackets stop disapointing him?

I put Platty ahead of EC b/c I feel they were the more complete team, they lose a big senior class but still have an older team. EC was one dimensional, and by the end of the year when I saw them it seemed that they only looked for one person to score. If they get some added scoring, things may change. But Platty was the faster team of the two and that will continue to separate these two teams.

The ECAC West should be a great competition this year. Hopefully the second tier teams continue to get better - Oswego/Utica/Neumann all capable of knocking off the top teams but can they do it consistently.
Will Potsdam have a team this year? A lot of Canadian kids to replace without a F/A package.
Buffalo State, Cortland and Chatham will finish 7-9, Pots finishes last this year.

Not to make any excuses however... I would submit that the EC team you saw last year was an anomaly. After graduating 9 the year prior the Soaring Eagles found themselves sorely lacking leadership and it showed. A few of the players that were counted on to step up actually did the exact opposite. This in turn created some tension in the dressing room and ultimately divided the team into two camps, those that cared...and those that seemingly didn't. Despite the efforts of the coaching staff to stem the tide.. they were unsuccessful. Those that cared have an opportunity to step up this year and as for those that didn't and choose to continue to try and drag this team down well...I suspect they will ultimately walk the proverbial plank. That's the way she goes...in hockey and in life.

Interesting...trouble in paradise? We had a similar situation a few years back and ended up going undefeated and winning the national title. Funny how it goes!

Not uncommon to see a champion rise out of the ashes of a disaster.

That's what we are hoping will happen.

BTW...I see you've moved again! Where is Grumpy, Ontario anyway?

More like the Gateway to Nigeria...

That's negotiable. A friend wrote me and says that Grumpy, Ont is very close to the Hamilton Airport where I normally take the Friday redeye into when heading south. I have been staying at that dump in Mount Hope but I could save some coin if you were to come pick me up and I could have a sleepover at your place. Give it some thought...I'd only be there for a few hours and I clean up pretty good. :)

We'll talk it over in Cowtown...end of September.

Well at least you are safe there, considering it is right next door to the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. :D

I know of one Western Canadian girl that is heading to Potsdam this year so presumably they are fielding a team...haven't heard much else however.

Re: Div-3 Hockey 2011-2012

University of New England in Biddeford, Maine is building a facility that will house a rink and a basketball court. One thing I heard UNE is committed to is beginning a Women's hockey program beginning next year. Good thing for womens hockey if more universities add women's programs. Not sure when typically a new program can become a varsity program but hopefully they can move it along from club status to varsity. Does anyone know how that works?
