And now Guillen has left the game. Any other good news they want to get out of the way tonight? Did Al Kaline and Willie Horton get into a bus crash on the way to the stadium?

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Yep. It didn't look like much at the plate, but they had to help him off the field.

It's either grab Adam Dunn to play LF and move Boesch to right, or start trading, starting with Johnny Damon and get Ryan Strieby or Casper Wells up here.

No deadline deal's going to fix being without a starting third baseman, second-best hitter and best set-up guy for a month against the AL East.

The only good news is that the White Sox (Peavy) and Twins (Morneau) are throwing parts too. 86 wins could take this division after all.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

If I were to trade I'd start looking towards 2011. But here's the problem: the only halfway-decent commodity we'll make available is Johnny Damon. There's not a whole lot else we have that we would want to trade, and the ones leftover, no one is going to want.

Henning made a good point in that we all believed that everything we got this year was supposed to be gravy. Especially since deadline deals are bullcrap, I don't see any harm in standing pat, and if they've got a shot in the last two weeks, great, let's enjoy it, but if they don't, let's make some big signings in 2011.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I'd put my money on Strieby being called up sometime in the night. Jeff Frazier isn't on the 40-man roster, so it's either Strieby or Casper Wells. Wells is hitting exactly .200 going into tonight's game, so that kinda limits it down, doesn't it?

I suspect the monkey in the Dodge commercial would be a better clutch hitter than Gump.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

It appears Jeff Larish and Will Rhymes will be the replacements. So yeah, go ahead and press the big red button over there. It's time.

There you go.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Well, at least the answer of trading assets to make a move at the deadline has been answered definitively.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Guillen to DL, Larish and Rhymes up.

Fien taken off the 40 man roster and Buckner released in order to make room on the 40 man for Larish and Rhymes.

How much does that suck for Buckner? Obviously he could have performed better so they could have chosen someone else to release or kick off the 40-man, but in the end he's basically out of a job because two people got hurt at the same time.

GUILLEN TOO?!

It's official, I'm calling it.

Let's not act surprised that Guillen is hurt, people.

At least Dombroski is not panicking.

"Other clubs look at us and say, 'Well, they are desperate so maybe they will trade us Oliver and Turner,' " Dombrowski said. "Well we aren't. I'm not meaning to say that anyone is untouchable. I'm not going to give away blue-chip young players for a guy for two months. It just doesn't make sense. Will we be active in talking to people? Yes. If there is a deal that we think can be made that can help us, will we? Yes. Are we going to mortgage our future? No.

We've got 77 million in payroll coming off. If we don't make the playoffs this year, so be it.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

In the silver lining department, that broken ankle may save the Tigers $15M, as because of it, Magglio is not likely to accumulate the number of plate appearances this season necessary to trigger an option for 2011.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Win tonight, two back now. Four games in at the Trop in Tampa this week. Then this weekend begins Soxapalooza with three in Fenway before coming home for four against the ChiSox.

Yeah, I missed that by about a mile and a half.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

And there it is.

There's the column he writes every year. At the bottom is the standard whining from Lynn Henning. "The fences were too far. My pussy hurts!!"

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I was watching Baseball Tonight the other day and it helped highlight the fact that they have no idea what they're talking about. They said that the Tigers were going to go after Roy Oswalt. Do any of you guys think this makes any sense after losing your right fielder, 3rd baseman, 2nd baseman, and setup man? Wouldn't you want to try and replace one of those guys...especially Maggs?
