Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

We did? Streaker thought 70, and that led to a pitcher of beer, and I thought 80-84 before the opener. If we're at 85-90 we're going to be in it until the very end. Sadly, it's not in the cards this year. 2011 and especially 2012 are going to be the ones to watch.

I thought their pitching would be crap (well, inconsistent is a better term now) and that the injuries would occur earlier. I didn't count on Boesch and I thought the AL would give Miggy the Pujols treatment. Like I said before, short of a pitcher of suds, 70 wins is no different than 80. The magic number for the playoffs is probably about 92-93 and I didn't think that was possible considering all the holes they have.

All's this did was extend Leyland and his staff's stay another couple of years, which to me is as potent and effective as that AAA lineup they are gonna trot out there for the next two months.

Well, I don't think Leyland is going anywhere in the near future, regardless of what's on the field at this moment. I think he was coming back in 2011 anyway. Either way, barring a complete collapse of the the team in 2011, I suspect that 2012 will be his last year in Detroit, win, lose or otherwise. He'll be 66 this coming December. He's not going to manage much more than 2 years anywhere.

One more thing: I think Leyland is going to get a couple games for last night's actions, but the accusations about him spitting on Marty Foster looks like a complete crock of **** from what I've read. I didn't see it, as I was making a mess of my own on the golf course.

I figured 85 wins sounded about right, with the Twins getting hot at the right time and coming away with the division at about 92. Now the White Sox are a player as well.

I saw it- Leyland blew out a wad of sunflower seeds and one of them stuck to Foster's shirt. That is why he got run, even if Leyland was (rightfully) upset about the blown call. The replay shows that Foster was shielded from the tag and that it wasn't close. Plus, this umpire crew also blew the call in Atlanta when Damon got called out on strikes to end the game, so I'm sure that amongst other pleasantries came up.

I thought that Sherzer got squeezed on that 2-2 pitch to Joyce, too... but that wasn't any excuse for grooving the next one. He pitched a whale of a game up to that point.

It's pretty amazing that you would lose a no-hitter on a grand slam.

If I were Marlboro Jimmy I'd be mighty tempted to trot out the same lineup just to see how long it would take to get a hit.

You can only hold Busta Rhymes down for so long.

And by so long, I mean roughly ten at-bats.

streaker, though it was the same crew, the plate umpire when the Tigers got screwed in Atlanta was Gary Cederstrom.

Re-read my post. I said "umpire crew" when referring to Foster and his fellow mates. Cederstrom (crew chief) was the umpire holding Leyland back. I was aware that he blew the call in Atlanta- I just didn't mention him by name.

Officiating in at least three of the four major sports are out of control- acting more like the arrogant athletes and less like the inconspicuous professionals they should be. I'm getting tired of their grandstanding and confrontational approach to their job. This denial to use replay in certain instances is a joke. I don't even watch the NBA (even with replay) anymore which supercedes any sport in WWF style antics from officials and players. MLB is almost on par now, especially with the wimp running the show, followed closely by Beyatch-man's puppeteer act in the NHL.

Oh, and did anyone notice that Leyland was chewing gum last night and not sunflower seeds?

Per MLB Radio, the Freep is reporting that Jeremy Bonderman is considering retirement.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Somehow I doubt that Jeremy Bonderman plays much chess.

Marlboro Jimmy got a one game suspension.

and yet he probably knew what to do with his earnings. Sounds like he could care less either way. He may not be able to pitch anymore, but he's set for life.

Leyland knew he'd get pinched, too. That yellow belly that runs the league wouldn't dare cross the umpires.

Jhonny Peralta is a Tiger, for minor leaguer Giovanni Soto.

Hit the most humiliating inside-the-park homer this season, then joined the team he hit it against a week later.

We're through the looking glass here.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

My opinion on Peralta may be a little high, but it seems like a nice deal. A real major-league player at a position of need, for what seems like next to nothing. Not bad.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

To make room for Peralta on the 40-man, the Tigers DFA'd Wilkin Ramirez. Dammit. I was hoping we could sucker another team into taking him in a trade for a bat this winter. The kid's a windmill, but I was hoping someone wasn't paying that much attention. Too late now.
