Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

JHTFC. Yakety sax inning in the top of the 4th. A HBP, a hit batter, a hit, then Inge boots one that scores two, Guillen throws to Cabrera and Cabrera somehow winds up off the bag. A 5-1 lead is now 5-4 and Porcello is in trouble. And most of it is his fault for getting in this position in the first place.

EDIT: Now 5-5.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I don't want to sound like 'that guy', but Porcello didn't hit the batter and Cabrera did tag the base before the runner even after Guillen couldn't hit the ocean from the beach.

In other news Austin Jackson is still the man.

Edit: Magglio doubles in Jackson for the 7-6 lead in the sixth. Cabrera intentionally walked.

That's fine, but Porcello struggled with the concept of "first-pitch strike", something that Galarraga absolutely mastered last night.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

For sure, Porcello wasn't pitching that well, Inge made a mess of a ball hit to him for a deserved error as well.

MAGGLIO!

11-6, bottom 7.

Looks like a junior high football score, doesn't it?

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

When its all said in done, Galearra's performance might end up being more memborable than the other two perfect games this year. Hell, people still talk about the George Brett Pine Tar Incident, this will go down the same way.

And if it just happens to light a fire under the Tigers, GROOVY!!

Better to be known as the guy that laughed it off and got the last out than the one that *****ed through his next 6 starts.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

All in all I'd take Joyce over Laz Diaz anyday. That is one incompetent umpire.

On to KC and Chicago.

Yeah, this could end up being really good for his development. To be that Freaking Close to a Perfect Game to have that happen, and then just shrug it off?? You can't coach that.

I expect this game will be remembered in baseball history as "The Greatest One-Hitter of All Time "......and it will never be duplicated.

I'm not sure if any of the 21 pefect games would have the same distinction.

....Tiger fans came out of this special story shining brightly.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Why didn't the official scorer declare it an "error", thereby at least preserving the no-hitter ? That would not have disputed nor negated the "safe" call by the umpire, but the statistics would more fairly reflect reality than "hit".

E-10 perhaps ?

The solution to baseball instant replay may not indeed be umpires, but the expertise of MLB official scorers. Much of the groundwork is already in place.

It was stated on another thread that you can only protest rule interpretations, not judgment calls.

There is nothing unique about a no-hitter with an .."E-10 perhaps";)

There is something very unique however, about a one-hitter where there have been no hits.

Cooperstown's been asking for Gallaraga's stuff, so you're probably on to something.

It would not surprise me in the least if Ryan Perry ends up in Toledo soon.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Hey! Don't look now, but we've got a catcher hitting over .200. Avila is up to .212.
