Galaraga got hosed. Poor kid. I hope he uses this and has a great season. I wonder what Ernie would have said if he were still around?

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

It was stated on another thread that you can only protest rule interpretations, not judgment calls.

Yeah, I'm hearing a lot of people blow off steam today but it's over. Be classy, suck it up and turn "you just got Armando'd" into a verb.

How many perfect game pitchers can claim they were perfect for 9-1/3? :D

It really sucks though, what a horrible call.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Well, this is interesting....

Major League Baseball was still deciding Thursday morning whether to review the umpire's blown call that cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game.

Commissioner Bud Selig has the power to reverse umpire Jim Joyce's missed call that came with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night in Detroit. Joyce ruled Cleveland's Jason Donald safe, then admitted he got it wrong.

I just read something similar on CBS Sportsline.

Anyone else think this is going to be a bad day at the park today?

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

While I feel that the call should be righted to be the correct call... doesn't this open up Pandora's Box to a whole new situation of wronged baseball calls that need correction?

Just where is the line drawn? Does the official record book show 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 men on base for this game with an asterisk? Do they go back and fix a blown out call during the third inning of an Expos/Mets game from 2002?

And to top it off, how does retroactively fixing it make up for the lack of celebration the players had on the field? How will the fans feel knowing that the perfect game they saw, and subsequently blown, is once again a perfect game?

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

While he can do it, I don't think he should. aparch has it right, it opens up Pandora's Box if they do it.

Plus, really so much of the enjoyment in pitching a perfect game/no hitter (not that I've ever thrown one) is the celebration on the field with your teammates and he's already missed out on that.

I heard the audio of Jim talking this morning and he sounded really upset about it, and honestly upset he missed the call. Tough break for the kid, but it is what it is.

This call likely outlaws the Joyce family from being welcome in Detroit, though maybe that's a good thing. ;)

Wow. He's going to show up to work home plate.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said MLB gave Joyce the option to not work Thursday’s game, but Joyce chose to stick with his job behind the plate. Leyland added that Galarraga would present the lineup card and shake hands with Joyce at home plate before the afternoon game.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, Galarraga has been gracious about this whole incident and this is just one more "We've moved on," type moment. On the other, I hope Galarraga sucker punches him.

On this note, let us all give thanks that Carlos Zambrano has never, and almost certainly will never, be put in such a situation.

I will never forget a game at Wrigley where Zambrano almost killed an umpire over a call at first base...in the eighth inning of a one run game...where Zambrano was the batter...and the issue was whether he was safe or out on a sacrifice bunt.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I think it is a terrible idea letting him ump today's game. I hope nobody does something stupid.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

An honest-to-goodness single in the top of the 2nd puts an Indian on the basepaths, fair and square.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Magglio.......triples??!?

5-1, bottom 3

50 RBI for Cabrera.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I wondered this morning if the injustice of it all would break the Tigers out of their offensive slump. I want to see them scoring the 10 runs/game that they're capable of a lot more often.
So far, so good.
