Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

JV is rounding into his usual form now. Last night he just looked unstoppable. He had that quick but not hurried pace on the mound. When he gets in that groove I relax a little bit more because I know he is on his game.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Okay, so I said I'd be back when we hit the 40 game plateau.

How many of you have changed your tune on this team?

I knew we'd be a force to contend with because everyone said they'd suck and wrote them off.

Biggest surprise so far this year? For me it has to be Boesch right? He already has 10 multi hit games and he's only played in 21 so far! Wow! That has to be some type of MLB record right?

And now King Jeremy has walked the bases loaded.

And now he donks a guy with the bases full.

Thankfully he gets out of it without any major damage.

Jeremy Bonderman should be just about the last person on earth shaking off the catcher. He's barely smart enough to figure out what he wants at McDonalds, let alone figure out what he wants to throw to a major league hitter.

There's been nothing to suggest they'll do anything other than finish about eight games behind the Twins. Second place in a one-team division hardly makes you a force.

Case in point is the number three starter on the mound today that ****s himself every time he sees his team leading on the scoreboard.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

82-84 wins. The back half of the rotation plus the bottom third of the lineup will be the death knell of this team's postseason chances. This is a foundation year for 2011 and 2012.

I stand by these comments. We've now got questions with respects to the bottom 3 of the rotation, and our starting 2B and #3 starter are both now in Toledo.

Hmmm, he's looked pretty good today. For the month of May in the last 4 games he's pitched (20 innings) he's only given up 4 earned runs, struck out 20 and given up 5 walks.

This is a 90+ wins ball club and we should be in 1st place by month's end.

Pretty accurate after forty games. Plus, they have no more west coast trips after they finish this one and have already gone 5-2 against NYY and the Bosox. That's a bonus.

I may be buying Hammer a pitcher of suds for my underwhelming faith, but I'll trade my bet for that 90+ win claim oh Billy Blue Skies just proclaimed. Maybe I can get him to buy both of us the beer, Hammer. I'll wager the whole night of brews if they win 90+ and take the wildcard, too. This team is even with their record last season- you remember the team that choked away a 7 game lead in the last three weeks. To surpass last year's record will take a manager of the year type performance out of Leyland considering that they have not had major injuries yet (okay, Guillen, Seay and Miner aside), all star like numbers for 162 games out of the guys that should produce (Damon, Maggs, Miggy) and above average production from the rookies (Jackson, Boesch, etc.)

90+ wins may be doable for any team in the east (outside of Baltimore) that gets to play in our division. Why? Because teams like NYY and Tampa have a legitimate starting pitching rotation, not this AAA roulette we have going after Verlander. Porcello, Shertzer, Willis, Bonderman and Gallaraga aren't going to strike fear into every team, especially on the road. (Oakland is as offensively inept and Seattle, BTW.) The bullpen may be lights out right now, but they can't do it all season. It's not like we are running rampant over teams in our division, outside of the Tribe.

And I like Boesch- but it's more realistic to assume he'll hit around .270 with 15 HR and 70 RBI's than what he is doing now. You can't count on contributions from rookies every game all season- and that's what we are getting at 2b, CF and occasionally at 3b and in LF and RF now.

Oh, and as far as the bottom half of the lineup- Everett, Laird-o/Avila, Inge and the rookie dujour.... it will bite this team in tight games.

I think a good season projection would be 86-76 now. I think that is top end. At least it would keep them in the race until September.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

This team is only getting better right now, not worse.

I am so sick of you guys being so pessimistic.

I'll take that bet.

Let's plan to do it on a weekend when NMU is playing one of the lower pen schools, so I can just fly in directly. We'll all meet up and the loser will cover beers and tickets to the hockey game. How does that sound?

You're a good egg when not spouting nonsense about the Wolverines. :D

BOESCH!!!
6-3 Dodgers, top 8

Boesch hits one out in front of his friends and family.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

And Austin Jackson takes one right square in the head, right above the eye. Thank God for helmets, otherwise we would have needed a body bag there in the right handed batter's box. That one hit flush.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

So, can we get rid of Inge yet because I'm tired of watching him strike out to end games.

But he's so scrappy! He hits home runs for kids with cancer! He's such a great athlete! He makes amazing plays on so many ground balls! <strike>(Before throwing them into the camera well) He's white!</strike> We can't get rid of Brandon Inge!

Don't forget, chicks go crazy for him as well!

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I was ready to rant about leaving Porcello in to face Manny with the bases loaded, but The Kid got out of it with one pitch.

3-2 Tigers end of 6.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

A slick play by Worth on a ground ball to 2B, and just like that.....

6-2 final. Cabrera and Maggs with homers.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

6-2 win. They only lost one game to the Twins on a weekend when the Tigers were at one of the better NL teams, and the Twins were at home against a slightly darker blue version of the Royals.

EDIT: Hammer beat me to it.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Cabrera is going to hurt my fantasy roster this week by spending time with his wife while she gives birth to their child. How can he be so selfish? I'm sure there are hundreds of fantasy owners that are going to lose money because of him!!

But seriously...good for him. I hope he has learned from his mistakes and turns out to be an excellent role model for his children. I hope he returns soon, and is inspired to continue his MVP pace.
