Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

You know, for a trip that I'd been dreading since the schedule came out, the annual "Tigers West Coast Road Trip of Doom," 5-6 isn't a terrible outcome.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I'll take it for the moment. We lost 2 of 3 to a Seattle team that is probably better than most people think, and we split in Anaheim and Texas, although I think we should have taken 3 of 4 from them. I don't think Texas is that good this year.

We're a .500 team with serious pitching issues. Porcello looks like a 21 year old, Verlander looks like last season has taken a toll on him already, Scherzer has been just fine, and I'm not sure about Bonderman or Dontrelle yet. There is no way Bonderman should have knocked out in the 6th after being staked to a 6-1 lead.

Oh, and the new Tiger that just appeared here, that's for anyone's use after a Tiger win.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Verlander didn't have a very good April last year, either, IIRC.

And the fact the the D-Train and Bonderman haven't been complete disasters is also a plus.

Then again, there have been lots of surprises this year. Big Nate is 2-1 and has an ERA under 4.00.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Yeah, but Nate is in the NL. I think we have to use the old Canadian exchange rate to adjust his ERA over there.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

And Verlander is pushing 90 pitches through 4 innings again. This is ****ing ridiculous.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

89 through 4 last night. He went over 120 last night and he couldn't get through the 6th. He threw 72 pitches in the 3rd, 4th and 5th (22-30-20). For about the 83rd time this season, that can't continue to happen. You can't have 30 pitch innings on a nightly basis, even if you don't give up anything in those said innings. It's going to come back and bite us in the butt, sooner rather than later.

The problem with that 30 pitch inning was that he had to get four outs thanks to Santiago booting a routine play in front of him.

If they're not going to hit the ball, they've got to get better on defense. They got killed by a couple atrocious errors last night.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Well, I'll take it, I suppose, but maaaaaan, that was a bad call.

The roof has caved in on the Twins. It's now 11-6.

What a ****ed up way to win a game.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

I think they'll gladly take it, Hammer. But once again the pitching gives up >4 runs. If it wasn't for another opponent pitching collapse and a gratuitous umpiring decision, the attention would be on the Tigers pitching.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Yep. It was the starting pitching. Again. We had to go get Scherzer in the 4th inning. Somehow, someway, the bullpen saved our butts again. I'm telling you, this is going to come back and bite us.

Willis with six shutout innings, but missed Wayne County on his first four pitches of the 7th and got pulled. Zumaya had two great innings in relief. Not a bad pitching performance, though it was against the Twins' B lineup without Mauer and Morneau.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Since surprisingly strong start for Willis today. If he can do that on a semi-regular basis I will be very happy. As much criticism as Magglio has taken over the last couple seasons, it was really cool to see him get hit number 2K today.

BOESCH GRAND SLAM!!!

Rod's Woo-hooing all over the place, and with good reason because Boesch crushed that one near the flagpole. He also carried his bat with him, "Problem Child" style, almost all the way to first base.

Scioscia had a guy warming up in the pen, but didn't go get Piniero. Bad call.

Piniero allows 10 runs in 3 1/3. Ouch.

Re: Detroit Tigers 2010: Streaker is going to buy me some beer

Now it's just a matter of if Porcello can get through 6 without a disaster. We can't be running to the pen in the 5th or 6th with a 10-spot on the board.

BTW, your reaction on Gump Laird's homer was absolutely perfect. My computer problems appear to be back, but that was what I was going to do.

Oh, and Sizemore and Boesch: 1st major league homer for each.
