Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

They certainly looked better than last year. It was a good game up until the 4th quarter. That interception right before halftime in the redzone killed us.

I still say 8 wins is possible.

I think you should stick to the Tigers. The Lions are a few years away from eight wins. I like Schwartz, but the talent, discipline and execution still screams Millen. The schedule is also not conducive to winning eight games this season.

I'd say the fact that the Lions couldn't stop Drew Brees from passing for six touchdowns is what killed them. That's just me though.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

Something to ponder, to finish with 8 wins, the Lions already have to be over .500 for the rest of the season. :D

(what really sucks is that I REALLY WANT THE LIONS TO WIN- making fun of them is not that much fun vs. them winning. But it is fun.)

This really gets to the heart of the situation. No matter how good the new front office may be (and I'm not convinced they are as good as the Ford family could have done) it'll take a long time to undo the damage Millen did. In the free agent market is where the most trouble will be; regardless of salary good players tend to not want to play for losing teams.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

That would mean it's going to take another 2-3 years of very good drafting to fix this thing. Assuming (dangerously) that we can hit on all of our top three rounds of draft picks and any of our picks the 4th round on are gravy, and we can pull an extra early pick somewhere via trade, that would give us 10 new starters over the next three seasons. That's about what it's going to take.

Key evidence that your season will suck: The offense immediately thinks of this when you say "turnover"

So, for those of you unfamiliar with his antics, here's a heads up: now that Billy Blanks has been proven wrong, he will disappear for a while.

Does this mean we have to wait until the Lions lose 9 games before Billy goes away?

So, that will be in about 8 weeks, maybe 9, depending on when the Lions have their bye?

In about a year and a half TO will be shunned from yet another locker room and looking for a team. Since he had to settle for the Bills this time, in about another year he'll probably accept that Detroit is a good fit.

God help us if that happens.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

This team is going to be 0-6 and coming off a bye before they have a game that I think they have a greater then 50% chance of winning (St. Louis at home)

vs. Minnesota? Peterson will have 200, and if he doesn't, Favre's home away from home has always been Detroit.

vs. Washington. They haven't beaten Washington since what, the Roosevelt administration?

at Chicago> Maybe if Cutler throws another 4 picks.

vs. Pittsburgh> Not a chance in hell

at Green Bay> About the same as Pittsburgh.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

I don't think they've ever beaten the Redskins in Washington.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

So basically, a record is likely to be set- loosing streak.

What's the thoughts on final record?

I can't see us going 0-16 again, Schwartz seems to be the kind of coach that will fiddle with the team to force it to work at least once vs. stubbornly sticking with a "system" that doesn't work with your players.

Re: Detroit Lions 2009: May the Schwartz be with us.

I'll go with 4 wins. They'll beat a team they shouldn't, and win the rest against other really bad teams.

BTW, wasn't Washington the team that knocked the Lions out of the playoffs during the fluke 12-4 season?
