Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Heads in my Congressional district (23rd NY) may explode after this article.

Owens: O'Reilly Endorses Me

So does that mean Olbermann endorses his opponent? :D And what of Bill's followers? Do they vote for Matt Doheny or do they go with Bill O?

My brother also went to school with O'Reilly. For the record, he does not endorse him. :-)

I just found it interesting. I don't try to be overt with my views on the board. I already have enough things aggravating me.

I was just wondering if a parallel universe was trying to open up. :D

Catholic School is thicker than politics. If I could do it all again, I'd probably have gone to Chaminade too and become a cranky version of Hillaire Belloc.

Don't get me started on Catholic school. My best friend went there til 4th grade. (Where he transfered to my school.) The nuns were cruel to him. His name is Glendon, but he had a hard time writing his d's and b's so they called him Glenbun. He was a happier person when he left. No offense to Catholic School, Kepler.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Ouch. I hope the thread title may not be (literally) turned on a challenger: Fiorina hospitalized for infection.

"My" breast cancer survivors include my mother and 2 aunts, and these stories always chill my blood.

Realclearpolitics shows Boxer surging to a 6.2% lead (had been hovering around 2%), but surely that must not be related as it happened literally the same day.

Yeah that's really a terrible story.

Doubt it, but maybe it's her Hillary crying in New Hampshire moment?

As cynical as I can be, I still can't imagine any scenario where Fiorina or her team are doing this on purpose because they thought this would be good for her campaign. Health concerns are never a good thing for a candidate, and the timing is horrible. For every sympathy vote she picks up, I bet she'll lose three health concern/not-up-to-the-job votes.

Oh totally, I in no way meant to imply she was doing it on purpose. It's obviously a sad story.

Just saying it might humanize her a bit.

Gotcha. Realclearpolitics has put Boxer in the winners' column, meaning that the GOP must win all 6 remaining toss-ups to get to 51. Seems highly unlikely now.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

With no tossups they now have it at 51-49 Dems, and that's with WV going to Manchin, which I'm not convinced of right now.
Either way, even if the GOP only gets to 47-48, that's more than enough to prevent anything big from passing, even if Snowe and Collins and Brown get overcome by a sudden fit of moderation.
Not to mention that there may be a few Democrats like Ben Nelson lurching to the right trying to save their butt in 2012.

All in all a fair assessment by realclearpolitics (which I understand is an average of polls from various outfits). I'm not sure I'd include WA as a toss up but that's a minor point.

I have a feeling Boxer is getting helped by Jerry Brown at the top of the ticket. A less well known, less weird generic politician would have gotten swamped by Whitman's multi millions, and that would have allowed a focus on the Senate race. Frankly I wouldn't have expected it, but you have to give that old bahstid credit.

If they got very close (say 50) there's the chance somebody would defect in exchange for a plum committee chair.

With absolutely no proof and nothing more than the ever-undependable gut instinct, I still think there is the potential for Republican gains to be greater.

I'm more worried about scumbag Lieberman, but I don't think it'll come to that. Of the 5 races after WA that they have out there, I'd rank them in I-feel-good-about in this order: WV, NV, IL, CO, PA. Manchin is extremely popular in every poll I've seen, and it didn't help Raese that his wife can't even vote for him because they live most of the time in Florida. In the other races it really comes down to the Dems GOTV effort bringing their candidates up the few points in the polls that they need. Not sure what will come in first, but that PA race is going to tell me a lot.

This will certainly be an interesting election to watch. Thankfully it's only 6 days away.

That would be very interesting to watch, not least because I think it could really fire up 3rd party talk among conservatives. I mean, the Tea Party works for 2 years to vote out liberals and "RINOs", and then when the GOP gets close to power they invite some more of them into the party? That'll go over really well I'm sure.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

My, what an unfortunate glitch

I wonder how that happened?

Controversy arose after Boulder City resident Joyce Ferrara complained to FOX5 that when she went to vote for GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle, Reid's name was already checked.

"Something's not right," Ferrara said. She claimed her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

I hadn't thought of that angle. Interesting.

Granting that we tend to assume our side is driven by sincerity and ethics while the other is a soulless, opportunistic killer, I still think the vast majority on the right are too pragmatic to let a third party undercut them. Also, there is quite frankly enough room in the GOP to accomodate 90% of the tea party and the RINOs. The portion that would be turned off by the slight dilution of principle needed to capture a chamber would also likely defect angrily at the very first compromise, and judicious compromise is part of governance, albeit the part the fever swamp types don't understand.

FYP

Why would they not report it at the polling station? Not to say she would ever lie...

I don't think its a good sign for the Angle campaign to be claiming voter fraud a week before the election. :eek:Usually you wait until afterwards and only if was a close loss.:D

But but but, the machines are serviced by the SEIU! Unions!!!

/Dons tinfoil hat.

So no, I think it's probably just old people being befuddled by technology. But it's a great story though.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

I'm not sure what the fraud precedence order is if a Deibold machine is serviced by union employees. :)
