Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Phew. I was beginning to worry Rand Paul was all out of controversies. Nope!

New CAGW ad. Fair or foul?

Nothing new here, just playing into people's economic fears and (dare I say it) racist tendencies. The issue itself is a legit concern, but the ad is way over the top in projecting that the US will be a joke and Americans will be nothing but slaves for the new Chinese Empire within a couple decades.

– Rep. Peter DeFazio (D., Ore.)

What a dipsh**.

I'm not following. He has an opinion and he's entitled to it. Are you saying you disagree with him? That's fine too. Personally I don't have enough energy for Rome anymore. He sounds like about 80-90% of the other clowns in office so I'm not sure why you're highlighting this particular one.

Oh, and the replacements that people came up with are just as bad from what I can tell.

Eh, it's a tad out of the ordinary to say you're thinking of impeaching the Chief Justice of SCOTUS.
Especially when your sole reason is that he voted differently than you would have on a case.

Well, it's been a mind-numbingly constant drumbeat from the right for decades that so-called "activist judges" are ruining the country. Now that they have their own activist judges, it's peachy. :)

As for impeachment, the Usual Suspects loved these.

*****ing about judicial decisions is one thing...threatening impeachment? Good luck with that.

Out of the ordinary? The Repubs have been on the impeachment bandwagon ever since Clinton couldn't keep it in his pants. Every month I hear about somebody talking about impeaching somebody now.

And he didn't just vote differently. He's not on a jury or in an election booth. I'd hope he would be held to a higher standard than just his opinion.

I added to the post as you were responding.

I'm sure opportunists, er, principled leaders have hinted at or threatened impeachment of justices before, depending on how the political winds blew and their re-election chances looked. That's why debates over high-toned political concepts like "judicial restraint" or "strict constructionism" have a strongly comic backbeat: while some of the philosophically-minded will stay the course, the political proponents will turn on a dime the moment the mojo starts working for them. They will, of course, have sound reasons for why it's different in that case. ;)

Serious question: how did Scalia vote on Citizens United?

This puts a bit of a dent in the poutrage, too.

Don't tread on me!

Criminal charges have now been brought against the idiot who stomped on her. The idiot in question is Paul's county coordinator.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

It's threatend in Washington daily now. The floodgates were opened.

Perhaps lowering the impeachment standard to lying about a BJ wasn't entirely responsible?

In another part of the forest (one actually related to the thread title), Silver has another of his insanely smart, well-written and interesting pieces that make the entire rest of the political blogosphere look like kindergarten.

They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

Shoot. He wasn't astompin' her. He was just amakin' sure she got a good look at the curb. Shoot. So a Paul county coordinator is a thug and a Reid staffer a serial perjurer. What of it?

Yep. I always say what of it when I watch two men assault a woman. It's old hat after all.

I'm old enough to remember when the whackjob John Birch Society wanted to impeach Earl Warren. In fairness, it should be pointed out that IS the legal way a Chief Justice can be removed--they weren't advocating shooting him (at least not publicly). It was their reasoning that was daft.

Henry B. Gonzales, long time south Texas powerhouse Democratic congressman, suggested impeaching every Republican president after Nixon, IIRC.

Otto Kerner, graduate of my high school, was removed from office as a federal judge and died in the slammer. He was a liberal favorite because he wrote the report about the "police riot" in Chicago during the '68 convention. Turns out he was a garden variety cheap crook, like so many OTHER Illinois pols.

You DO understand the concept of sarcasm, don't you? Or are you really that much of a dullard?

What about poisoning him?

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Ouch. I hope the thread title may not be (literally) turned on a challenger: Fiorina hospitalized for infection.

"My" breast cancer survivors include my mother and 2 aunts, and these stories always chill my blood.

Realclearpolitics shows Boxer surging to a 6.2% lead (had been hovering around 2%), but surely that must not be related as it happened literally the same day.

Re: Death to the Incumbent! Part Two: Now with more Death.

Heads in my Congressional district (23rd NY) may explode after this article.

Owens: O'Reilly Endorses Me

So does that mean Olbermann endorses his opponent? :D And what of Bill's followers? Do they vote for Matt Doheny or do they go with Bill O?
