Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

He acts like the Vikings/Brad Childress/Brett Favre murdered his entire family with a spork and sounds like a bitter dink. Contrast this with Troy Aikman who said similar things without sounding like a complete buffoon.

It's the golden rule taught at the Skip Bayless School of Being an ESPN Talking Head:

Whatever you do, act incredulous.

I don't know if Stink has yet learned the second golden rule about fellating the Cowboys.

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

it's pretty clear Favre is a hideously selfish individual and feels the rest of the world is merely here for his convenience.
If you had the media fellating you for years and a team offering you $25 million / 2 years despite the fact you're a mediocre has-been, wouldn't you be inclined to feel the same way about the world?

BTW EODS, when you mentioned fanbase quirks you forgot the one where Vikings fans angrily boo the black starting QB and demand the elevation of the white backup to starter in week 2. :p

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

But I don't know if the shift in attitude in Packer fans is any more shocking or strange than the annual shift in attitude made by Vikings fans. You know what I'm talking about: that point around week 7 (or whenever you lose a few games) when you guys stop thinking that you'll win the division and demand to blow up the team. Every fanbase has their weird quirks. Let's just all be glad that we're not Patriots fans.

It usually happens long before Week 7...Vikings fans can be downright nuts! This is the group of fans that wanted Todd Bouman and Gus Ferrerotte to play over Daunte Culpepper! (pre-knee injury) They are so hot and cold it is crazy! :D You won't see me defend them ;)

I only commented on the Packer fans because most of the guys that defended him are still around and the story is fresh. It is just funny how 2 years ago the Packers were awesome because they had #4 and yet now #4 sucks and really the only thing that changed was he got his feelings hurt and left town. Stuff like that amuses me :D

NFC Championship bound, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woooooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooo

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

If I were Brett, I'd set aside a big chunk of that salary to give to his O-line. Folks are going to be coming hard for him this year.

Yeah. It's pretty annoying to see some of those people struggle to make up for their lack of a balanced viewpoint on Favre. Someone should look up "overcompensating" in the dictionary. They go most of this decade unable to acknowledge the growing chinks in Favre's armor, and suddenly its all that they can think about.

Only the vocal few that needed to b***h about something.

The vocal few...I was at a game where the entire crowd chanted "We Want Gus" for half the game...it isnt the vocal idiots that are the few it is the levelheaded guys like us that are in the minority.

I doubt most Pack fans would hold anything against Favre, save for the fact he acted like a complete ****** the first time he "retired" and went to NY. If he went to another team cleanly, even Minnesota, under a trade or a release, they'd probably still be fond of him.

For a lot of fans GB fans that's pretty accurate. My hangup (and an unfortunate source of much argument today) are the idiots on the "Ted Thompson is an ahole who hates Favre and stomps on kittens for fun" kick.

The real crazies are so wound up emotionally in Favre that they are unable to separate his play on the field from his actions off. For example, when I suggest I don't mind that he's still playing and don't even care that it's for Minnesota, but still think the guy is a self-serving dip, they cannot even comprehend the line of thinking.

The guy was my favorite player for years and years, but knowing some of the people I do, I am 100% confident in my understanding that in many, many circles in Green Bay and Mississippi, Brett and the entire Favre clan are highly disliked as they are all viewed as a selfish bunch that operates with little regard for others. Within said circles, the instances and information cover a much longer timeframe than just the past two years, and using my best judgement I deem them to be accurate appraisals. Only wish I had known about much of it sooner.

With all that in mind, it's great he's in Minnesota. Showed he can still play before getting hurt last year and this certainly spices things the hell up in the NFC North. However, just because those two things might be true doesn't mean the guy isn't a doosh on a personal level.

Ah, forget it. It's far easier to just chirp about TT....

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

"There are fans out there (who) could find out that Brett Favre could run over 14 puppies and they still wouldn't care. These people would think he was still the greatest thing since sliced bread. But I think there are people out there . . . who are kind of on the fence (thinking), 'What is this guy all about?...

...When people sit there and read these comments, I'm pretty qualified to read between the lines and tell you what this guy is about. Good or bad, that's fine. I mean, a lot of athletes are like this. They are selfish. They are all about themselves. I think some of these quotes you are seeing show it."

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

XYZ: Mrs. EoDS is from Green Bay, and I've heard quite a few stories about the Favres that fall right in line with what you said. Including one particularly bad one regarding Deanna and her discount at the Packer Pro Shop. Keep in mind, this is all 3rd hand gossip and is probably exaggerated, but when it all lines up towards the same conclusion...

Then there's the whole "stopped showing up in cold weather/playoff games in this decade" thing...

Occam's Razor probably comes into play here...

Is it really some organized conspiracy by hundreds of Packer fans who have spent fifteen years trying to bring down the Favre's for no apparent reason? Or are the Favre's just losers? Hmm.

Other than that, sad thing is what I've heard over the past few years hardly falls into the "gossip" category. It's pretty detailed things from pretty solid sources. Sadly, that's what makes it nearly impossible to deny...

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

This is great! :D

I don't care one way or the other about Favre, but for the first time I'm going to talk about the things I've heard about him being a jerk. The fact that I never spoke about these things when he was a Packer is sheer coincidence.:D

Don't forget to add that you "really don't care one way or another about Favre, you're just throwing your two cents in."

I have been absolutely loving interacting with my Packer fan coworkers the past two days. Their mouths are saying that they don't care, but their eyes and reddened cheeks say differently. :D

Re: Dear Brett Favre Make Up Your Darn Mind Already

Just remember folks, it's not about revenge. It's about personal glory. And revenge.

The vocal few...I was at a game...

The people at the games represent the few - not the many. Dear Parise, every anecdote you have about "fans" comes from being at the games, yet the vast majority of fans never go to the games. I don't know a single fan that ever wanted Gus to start in front of Culpepper.

Culpepper had the million dollar arm, but the $1,000 head at times. Then there were other times where he seemed to really get how the game was played. Frerotte had the $500,000 dollar head, but the $5,000 arm. It was really a toss up.
