DEAD!! All right, who died now?

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

I remember listening to WOWO in the 1960s because they had a clear channel station which was easy to hear in NY. He must have been doing the broadcasts back then.

I remember hearing the Komets' broadcast clear as a bell in upstate NY in the 80s. It wasn't "WOWO" then, though. It was (I coulda sworn) K-something. Maybe a repeater?

I heard Dan Ratushny drop the f-bomb on an intermission interview and Chase didn't bat an eye but also managed to convey to Dan that this was not OK with some sort of clever double entendre.

Also his call was excellent.

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

The embargo finally worked! It only took him outliving six US presidents and oh wait Cuba is still communist.

And "An atom blaster is a good weapon, but it can point both ways."

That's why in this case Mallow's method of fighting a war would have worked with Cuba.

I've forgotten. Was it golden handcuffs? Because that's how we should have handled Cuba.

Castro came to the US before the USSR, but we told him to p*ss off because OHNOESCOMMUNISM!!111!1 We f-cked up because we didn't Marshall Plan them: give them aid and defense, distort their economies, make them client states. "The hand that you hold is the hand that holds you down."

Oh the US *ed up with Cuba well before Castro. It was a solid stream of * ups since the Spanish-American War.

It's about to continue. Coming soon, $300/night chain resort hotels to employ maids and waitstaff at whatever Cuban minimum wage is. Including some gilded monstrosity with TRUMP on the roof, no doubt.

Casinos. Lots and lots of casinos.

Maybe Hershey can restore their sugar plant and company town. And think of the used car market. Clunkers for Cuba?!

I've got to say, the actual celebrating I'm seeing makes me feel uncomfortable. The guy did some really awful things, and I can't really relate, but it's still weird to celebrate a death. Anyone else have issues with this?

I do.

Think of it as a useful character note. People tell us everything about themselves. We only have to listen.

Re: DEAD!! All right, who died now?

Seconded.

As for the cars from Cuba....yeah, they are old and classic, but from what I've read, they are junk. Because of the "closed" country, repairs are made with whatever they can find. Some parts don't exactly match, or aren't quality, etc. It's not like they are car-show cars.

I really wish Cuba could transition to some from of democracy while maintaining their own culture, but I know better. Want to see Cuba before it's ruined? You better have gone in the last 1-2 years, or be planning your trip within the next 1-2 years. With Fidel dead, the only remaining non-moral barrier for the vast majority of Americans, is Cuba agreeing to issue tourist visas for us gringos (that will likely come during Trump's administration. YUUUGGE deal that he will claim ALL of the credit for. ;)).

So, definitely go now. From what I gather, it's relatively simple to claim "educational" purposes, as long as you agree to sit through the Cuban government's propaganda tours/forced interactions with locals on the gov't payroll. However, that does not constitute your whole trip.

I need to do more research, rápido. :)

Me 3. I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis and my Dad on the front porch, in uniform (along with most of the neighborhood) when the breakers tripped a huge portion of the Northeast. On the other hand they seem to also have some good things including medical schools. I initially thought I wouldn't celebrate anyone's death but then when I was honest with myself there are a few polititians I would breath a sigh of relief (and yes, :o celebrate) at their demise
