D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Thanks for the clarification. Are you or anyone else able to shed light about quarter finals and teams from the same conference not playing against each other?

Its been talked about in the NCAA D3 Rankings thread. Matt claims that the NCAA has never shyed(or shied...not sure how that one goes, but neither looks right) from putting teams from the same conference against eachother in the NCAA's. I don't think this is true..i can't really ever remember plattsburgh meeting Elmira/RIT in the quarters or Amherst and Middlebury playing in the quarters. The only time I remember it happening was UWS and UWSP played eachother in the NCHA championship game like 5 years ago and UWSP won..the following week UWS traveled back to Stevens Point for the NCAA match-up. But that year Gustavus got the bye into the frozen four, so they had to play eachother. They hypothetically could have given UWSP the bye and sent Superior to GAC, but Stevens Point had lost to GAC during the year.

Actually that year Plattsburgh played Elmira in the quarterfinals...so maybe Matt is right :)

Just by going off the top of my head...

Teams from the same conference can and have played in the NCAA Quarterfinals and the NCAA does not go out of their way to avoid it.

I think that if they can they avoid it without jeopardizing bracket integrity too much. Why not send Manhattanville to Norwich last year and give Middlebury the bye?

Because Norwich was the #2 seed in the East. Why would they give Middlebury a bye over them?

Were they? Did Norwich still win the comparison after the loss to Manhattanville? I don't remember to be honest.

I know Norwich owned a head to head win but I doubt Norwich's SOS was better and I know their in-region winning percentage wasn't better.

Lake Forest completes the sweep of St Scholastica to advance.

I was just looking at the box scores of the the two lake forest games and the Waidacher sisters were shut out. That is a bit of a surprise and would possibly explain why Scholastica was swept. I thought this series would go to a mini game with Scholastica coming out on top. It should be an interesting next weekend in River Falls. I think any team that gets hot could come out on top .

Speaking of bracket integrity....why does the ECAC-W reseed after the first round? If Elmira had won they would be playing Plattsburgh in the semi's...therefore shouldn't Potsdam be playing Plattsburgh in the semi's and Oswego playing RIT??

Just the way the ECAC brackets do things. I believe the SUNYAC does the same thing. They are all about giving the #1 seed the most advantage by playing the lowest remaining seed every round.

Cause that is the way it should be. Highest remaining seed should always be playing the Lowest remaining seed. This is the way it works in most hockey leaguies, including the NHL.

Agreed.....what league would not do that? The #1 seed has earned the right to play the lowest remaining seed with their strong play through the entire season.

It seems that leagues always do that, but when it comes to something like a national tournament or a state tournament, then a bracket is populated at the start, and teams are left in that portion of the bracket throughout. For some larger tournaments that certainly makes sense, as it would be a logistical nightmare to start moving teams from venue to venue after every round based on results elsewhere, so organizations like the NCAA just go with the same approach for all of their tournaments.

In case anyone was wondering.... St Olaf's website has it at Bethel 5 St Olaf 4 in OT

So let's go Bethel on Thursday night!

Wow they blew a 3-1 lead in the third. Do you think Bethel can get 51 shots off against GAC?:)

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Concordia up 1-0 on St Thomas

Scoreless in Gustavus...teams trading tripping penalties
