D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Too bad for Hamilton to "pick their game up" against two ranked teams this last week. Their record would certainly be better had they played the same way earlier in the year. Not only did they play well against Middlebury, but the stats for last night's game against RIT (shots 35-31 in favor of RIT) shows they played really well last night too. Maybe a surprise team in the NESCAC's who knows. Hazlett playing really well, and is certainly one of the best DIII goalies when playing well, and can steal games, just as she did with the CT Stars. Good luck Continentals the rest of the way.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Regarding the Gustavus lost last evening a contributing factor may have been the 300 miles 4 1/2 hour bus trip to Moorhead Thursday returning Saturday night and turning around Tuesday and traveling 220 miles 3 1/2 hours to Superior and playing their third game in 5 days. Similiar to Middlebury traveling to RIT for a weekend series and then turning around and traveling to Salve Regina for a Tuesday evening game, like that happens all the time.

Hey 24, take a chill pill. First of all Middlebury never played RIT, so I have no clue what you are talking about, and why all of the whining about travel time???? And how the heck does Salve Regina come in to play???

My post was to commend Hamilton for their improved play, and you go on some ridiculous rant:confused:

Quit making excuses about travel, it is part of the game for everyone, and if there is an issue with it, take it up with the coaches who do the scheduling, or with anyone who cares, if it makes you feel any better.:D

He was referencing the Gustavus loss to Superior last night.

Travel's not an excuse....Ask Adrian or Amherst who took a trip to minnesota and then 2 days later made a trip to Norwich.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

This is the first time that Gustavus has lost by 4 goals to a western team since Nov 3, 2007; and one of maybe 10 times ever. Other than that they lost to Middlebury 5-0 in the meaningless third place game at the Frozen four last year and 4-0 to Amherst in the semifinals 2 seasons ago.

Looking through old schedules....Middlebury has owned Gustavus over the years... 5-0 last year, 3-0 in 05-06, 4-3 & 7-3 in 04-05, 7-0 in 02-03, 5-1 in 01-02

Hey look, there aren't enough games between East and West power teams to satisfy everyone's desire to know who is best, so we have to make due with what we have. What we seem to have is Amherst going West every couple years to enhance their already fertle recruiting success in Minny, and then we have the FF games. This is the second time you have suggested that GAC lost the 3rd place game last year due to lack of interest. So, this will be the second time I tell you that from my seat up close and personal, GAC played their *****e$ off in that game. Just sayin...

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Well Mr. Know it All if you were the coach you would know that Sobczak was the goalie in the last game against Superior which I believe was a 1-0 overtime win. And this was the worst game GAC has played that I have ever seen.

Well, I am obviously not the coach, which is why I was asking if anyone knew why they didn't stick with Justice, who's played the majority of minutes in net. I'm not trying to denigrate Sobczak, just asking a question on a message board!

Also...you may think I'm a know it all, but I'm definitely no Mister!!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Its going to be hard to say Chatham you are in and Marian you are out.

If Chatham ever got 20 wins, I don't think they'd care whether they were in or out. =) Heck, if they went 5-20 I'd be tempted to give them a bid just as a reward.

I'm not saying that they didn't play their behinds off. I can't imagine playing in that 3rd place game....getting so geared up for the Frozen Four lose...and then have to go play another one. No one wants to lose a game I understand that, and they aren't going to just tank it.

The part you quoted their I was talking more about just how much Middlebury has dominated Gustavus. Gustavus has never beaten Middlebury out of several attempts, where they have beaten many other Eastern teams in 1 or 2 tries. If you look at the schedules from 01-02, 02-03...there was a lot more east-west play back then...I wish it could pick back up. I did comment how the East hasn't totally dominated the west in play this year. Amherst did go 2-0 on their trip, but neither win was close to easy for them...and many people put Amherst near the top of their rankings. Even RIT didn't beat up on Adrian nearly as much as they did last year.

I just want to clarify this a little bit seeing as I know exactly what Amherst did on the trip since I talked to Coach Plumer about it.

First off, the game was at Amherst not Norwich.

Second, Amherst played River Falls on Wednesday and St. Thomas on Thursday. They then spent two more days out in Minnesota and flew home Sunday to prepare for Norwich at home on Tuesday.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Any way you look at it the win over Gustavus was a good win for UWS. Hopefully they don't get overconfident but keep improving and maybe make some waves in the playoffs. Go Yellowjackets take two from Marion this weekend.

I haven't seen as many GAC games over the years as you have, but from what I have seen, GAC plays alot like Midd does, relying on skill and finesse rather than size and strength. The problem I see is that GAC spends 4 months adapting their game to deal with opponents who play bump and grind styles. Then when the intersectional play comes along, GAC cannot re-adapt to a finesse opponent. This is most noticeable in two areas. First, they end up spending a lot of time in the box. Second, the Eastern finesse teams get scoring chances that Justice was not used to seeing for 4 months. Hence, a 4-0 loss to Amherst and 5-0 to Midd in two games in which GAC was good enough to win.

Hey Plugger... That's 4and20, not 24... Take a chill pill...

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

Final SOG Gustavus 61-13 Hamline as Gusties finally get the goal they need the most and win 3-2.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - Let the season begin!

are you serious? Is Marian way overachieving right now or did UWS have a let down? Maybe the Marian goalie is overachieving I don't know....I can't imagine saying that a team that outshot their opponents by 30 had a let down but they were also down 3-1 at one point to a team that has 1 win on the season....and that 1 win was to a team that hasn't won 1 game in the last year and a half...IDK...hopefully that lights some coals and gets a fire going under UWS
