Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

This RIT has no class conversation is getting old...we have it every year. 13-1 vs Chatham, 17-1 vs Potsdam.

Im not sure it was the score but the day before th 17-1 win it was the 6-2 win with 12 penalties in the third period that proved how classy RIT is.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

If anyone has seen RF this year that's the major objective of this squad... They shoot, they shoot, they shoot... They get a ton of traffic in front of the net and it works... But... SNC beat them on the PK and defended well... Shots aren't everything...

The funny thing is that I've been saying this about Gustavus for years and everyone downplayed it. River Falls takes up the same strategy and everyone gets all up in arms about it. Against most teams this strategy will work, but you get a good goaltender and it levels the playing field instantly....ex. Gustavus vs St Thomas this year, SNC vs UWRF, UWRF vs Gustavus this year...Gustavus vs St Thomas, St Olaf and St Kates last year.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

The score isn't what bothers me. More shots in the third than any other - that bothers me.

None of us were there; we don't know what the situation was. With a big weekend against Plattsburgh coming up, is it fair to tell RIT that they have to let up for this week? Most coaches want their teams to play with the same intensity every game -- but sometimes you're going to find an opponent that can't hold up to that intensity. If they let up against Chatham, maybe it becomes that much harder to keep the intensity going against Plattsburgh next week.

But it's getting to be awfully tiresome that it's only RIT getting accused of running up the score when other teams have similar margins of victory.

Again...the margin of victory isn't want irks me. It is the fact that the most shots came in the third.

These are the 10+ victory margin wins this season

RIT 13 Chatham 1
Plattsburgh 12 Chatham 1
Utica 10 Castleton 0
SNC 10 Marian 0
RIT 10 Potsdam 0

Lest be frank, no one is going to get up in arms about Utica or SNC beating a team by 10 because, esp in Utica's case, it will probably never happen again. I don't see how the Plattsburgh fans can be crying foul at the RIT fans.

Does it make sense that you would have more shots in the third than the first. Maybe. RIT is probably way more conditioned then Chatham is and those girls were probably dead by that point in time. Should their top players have still been in the game, probably not. But if you look at the Platty/Chatham boxscore the girl who scored Platts first goal is the same girl who scored their last.

Well, for the 450th time since this conversation began, I could care less about the score or who scored what. You don't need to take more shots in the third than any other game. Like I said, we get it. You're trying to prove you don't belong in D-III.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Folks, we have been over this before. It's this coach's MO.

16-0-0 team against a 0-7-0 team who has his team direct 23 shots at a clearly beaten opponent in the 3rd period while running his top lines. Add this mentality to coach playing the proposed D1 move card as a recruiting tool and I would suggest you have something well short of a Coach of the Year candidate. :(

When are you leaving again?

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

I don't have any hard and fast numbers to quote but from my experience it seems that nine goals is the politically correct point at which most coaches call off the dogs. I have seen a number of games where once the score got to 9, the better team goes into a permanent cycle in the offensive zone playing keep away but not shooting. IMHO any coach who encourages goal scoring once the "gentlemen's limt" has been reached is not showing respect for the opponent.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

How come Chatham is only playing 18 games this season....would no one schedule them non-conference?

The counter argument to this is how disrespectful is it to play keep away? As a hockey player I find that to be more embarassing.

The problem is is that there is no solution but to not schedule the inferior team. Obviously with conferences this is not possible. Had RIT called off the dogs and played keep away we may not be talking about it on here, but those that were at the game may be disgusted by the lack of respect shown for the opponent. On the other hand, if they keep playing and trying to get better as a team and end up running up the score, we all go crazy as if we know what it is like to be on the ice in a game like that. I know the point was brought up last year that even if RIT were to be rolling their 3rd and 4th line people would be upset that they were scoring goals. But is the coach supposed to ask his players that barely see the ice to not try and score some points for themselves? Are you going to ask your young freshman not to try and rack up a few points for themselves?

I am not saying I agree with running up a score, but I am not saying I am not. I think each situation is different and it is easy for us as observers to sit back and complain.

I think it is because it took them so long to hire a new coach. I believe that next years schedule will look different

Don't have the shot count for todays game yet, but RIT 7 Chatham 0.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Platty escapes with a 2-1 win at Buffalo State today.

Cards had a tough time putting up goals against the Bengals this weekend. Just six.

It was enough for two wins though and that's the most important thing.

SOG 52-7. 11 shots for RIT in the third. Hmmmmm!

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

Puzzling as to why Adrian would start(statistically) their third best goalie in a pivotal conference game.

Re: D3 Scores and Highlights - 2010/11

So...who made the phone call to collegehockeystats about the travesty of Leclerc not getting a point for being on the ice last night for Norwich's lone goal and got that changed ;) I guess that's almost as good as a win.

Hey 5 4, what was that about playing for awards?
