D3 scores 2014-2015

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

"I think Plattsburgh will prevail in their semi-final by doubling up on Norwich in shots and on the scoreboard 4-2"

Well, I believe I was wrong on the shots (Norwich might have outshot Plattsburgh) but I was pretty accurate with the score: 4-2 for Platty and then a late empty netter for a 5-2 final score.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

"I'll guess 3-2 for the Falcons."

Well I had the right score but the wrong winner. For what it's worth for tomorrow I think the Falcons will beat the Cadets by a 3-1 margin. In the championship game I'll go with Plattsburgh 4-1 with the 4th being an empty netter.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

My 2 cents...

I didn't see Elmira's first goal. Was it clear that it was in the net before the buzzer went off?

While I don't doubt the 3rd goal...the ref was in no position to see whether Hall got the puck covered or not. Obviously it wasn't clear on the video as you couldn't see the puck but it looked as if she was trying.

There needs to be some sort of punishment for the goalie knocking the net off. The Elmira goalie clearly knocked the net off the moorings late in the game when River Falls was really applying pressure, its not really fair to River Falls to stop the game and make them do the face off because she knocks the goal off.

Other than that, Elmira just outplayed River Falls in the 3rd period. That goal in the final second of the 2nd sparked em and they got it done. It looked like Ryan just decided that she was gonna win the game and did what needed to be done.

It was clear that the puck had gone in before the buzzer on the 1st Elmira goal. On the 3rd goal it did look like Hall was still trying to corral it and the ref did end up gliding into better position and it looked like he saw it go across the line. Agree about the net being knocked off on purpose although I would have said the Elmira D went right at the post and by coincidence the goalie went across hard at the same time, but I would have given the D a delay of game penalty - the ref was right there or so it seemed. I thought for sure he would make the call. The buzzer beater goal was the shift in momentum Elmira needed. They skated off the ice smiling. I firmly believe without that goal the Falcons would be playing Plattsburgh tomorrow night. It seemed to take the wind out of their sails and they never got it back or simply ran out of gas after outskating, outworking, and simply outplaying Elmira for the first two periods. I was very surprised at how much Elmira scrambled to try to stay alive throughout most of those first two periods. You don't see that happen very often but they couldn't find the answer to the aggressive and tenacious play of the Falcons. Unfortunately River Falls looked like a different team in the third period, an average team like the rest of the teams that Elmira is used to in the ECAC West. Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration because those other teams are pretty bad but you get my point.

My 2 cents...
River Falls looked awesome in the 1st period. I was surprised they were so fast and physical. The first goal was just the way you draw it up; win the draw and get a low shot on net from point; Sibley drew to Greeley 1-0. I thought there was a second assist on goal 2; certainly Moran had help deep in the right corner before the feed to Sibley in the slot for the score. Hall kept being called upon to stop Elmira scorers in real close and she just couldn't keep it up. Hogan has the quick release and she definitely buried her forehand from the slot for the first Elmira goal before the horn. Obviously the game turned on that play and you could hear Elmira coming in the 3rd. The Soaring Eagles were not as fast as RF early but wore them down by the 3rd. The second Elmira goal was similar to the initial RF score; after an icing Eidensten drew back to Wilgosh and her drive handcuff Hall then Weston fought for and put the rebound home from the top of the crease. Hall made stops on Ryan in her grill at least three times in the 3rd and fought off a series by Hogan early in the period. The game winner was a scrum at the top of the crease with Delainey getting the goal. Now we get Elmira and Plattsburgh for the fourth time this season. Elmira has won two real gutsy NCAA games to get to the final (and I still say Trinity choked, being up 2-1 and on a power play with 3: to go and losing in OT). Anyway, Plattsburgh basically never loses at Stafford and Elmira beat them there twice regular season, so how much would you bet on them beating them a third time in their barn in one year? Still, it is for all the hardware. Should be a war.

It has been mentioned that Elmira wore them down as the game went on...I believe the difference is 4 lines verses 3 ! Elmira could keep fresher legs out there with shorter shifts and did just wear down the Falcons.

Can't understand how you can dump on the conference that will represent the National Champion. Just be happy UWRF doesn't have to try to come out of the ECAC West or they would never get in the field of eight. RF played a good game, they just haven't played a team like Elmira all year. Not sure what to expect tomorrow. Hope both teams can use the East/West factor for motivation.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Plattsburgh was the better team yesterday and my hat is off to them for their defensive effort after Norwich cut it to 4-2. However, I've seen the second Plattsburgh "goal" about 50 times on video replay from literally 6 different cameras and I have yet to see a replay that has convinced me that puck went into the net.

You hate to see something like that in a game that means so much and I strongly hope the NCAA considers putting in video replay at the final four sites for DIII men's and women's hockey in the near future for incidents just like that.

It's not fair to either team to have a big moment in a game surrounded in controversy like that. We need to be definitive about things like that especially in a game where the margin of error and difference between two teams is so slim. Let the players on the ice decide the game. Not a goal judge and an official.

Good luck to Plattsburgh and Elmira today in the finals and Go Cadets in the third place game vs. UW-River Falls. Lets send the five seniors off on a winning note and build some momentum for 2015-16 with a very admirable third place finish for a team with 15 freshmen.

Lastly, OUTSTANDING job for everyone involved at Plattsburgh State on another terrific job hosting this year's championship weekend. Stephanie Dutton, Allan Leavy, Charlie Hurley, Bruce Deventhal, Adam Krinsky, Scott Johnson, Kirk Fraser and Georgia Woodworth. Those are the heroes behind the scenes that help make this weekend what it is. I'm not quite sure anyone else in Division III will quite be able to replicate what RIT and Plattsburgh have done with this championship in four of the last five seasons.

Quarter-final Karma???

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Perhaps....even more of case to have it wouldn't you say?

I agree, just not a fan of challenge water bottles on the ice and whining about ever call or non-call. Officiating anything is thankless. Consistency in play calls is an impossible goal. I heard something about Canadian robots that have been programed to skate, now maybe...

I think I'm hardly one to "whine" often. and I know plenty about thankless jobs! :)

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

I think for the most part, players who were on the ice did decide the game. Part of the game for players to be involved in and succed at is special teams.
Norwich was 1-6 on their PP (which was a 5-3) and Plattsburgh was 1-3.
This is a fast game and officials will miss penalties, icings, off sides and yes goals.
I don't see the NCAA paying to install cameras, monitors and then paying someone to run the playback. If the host already has the equipment, then yes let's use it.

Re: D3 scores 2014-2015

Does anyone know if the third place game will be streamed/online anywhere? The usual links at NCAA are not very helpful.
